I love the Chan films too. I haven't yet seen the others with Benson Fong. I'm still making my way through the original Warner Oland/Keye Luke series.
What a coincidence. I have those wonderful dvd sets and no matter how many times I see the movies I always enjoy them. I'm currently working through the set chronologically. It helped because I couldn't decide which one to enjoy.
I love this clip for so many reasons: A Chan son AND daughter; the nascent divide of what would eventually be called "the generation gap;" Chan's obvious (to we, the viewers) unreserved love and admiration for his kids; Toler's genuineness and authenticity in his expression of parental exasperation.
Yeah, I totally agree about Toler's performance. The bit when he smiles to himself at the end of the scene is a small gesture that could have easily been cut, but it adds a real emotional depth.
Wow, you must have done lots of research! Thanks for the posting and for all the information you have given. Lai Yee looked cute and lovely in this film.
Miss Quon such a beauty. I wish I knew her. Too bad she is gone now.
