I probably sound like anyother fashion struck teenager, but let me first present my case. I am in eighth grade (13 years old). Since I was...hmm...atleast 11, I have wanted to be in fashion in some way. It has gone from wanting to be a marine biologist to an author to finally, a fashion designer. I don't want to do it for the glamour (though it sounds like that aspect is intresting too :P), but I want it for the art and the creativity. I love expressing myself!
Well coming from a student who is currently a junior in the fashion program Parsons is a good school with an very intensive fashion program. You'll have no social life but most of the teachers are great. Yeah there are a lot of things wrong with it mainly administrative ( advising, financial aid, etc). But the teachers and the intensity of the workload prepares you for the craziness and long hours that go on when you have a job.
People need to come down!! I can say Parsons is the BEST school for Fashion design in North America other wise how come Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs, Isaac Mizrahi, Tom Ford, Alexander wang, Vera Wang, Jason Wu, Thakoon, Anna Sui, and the brand Proenza Schouler were all graduated from Parsons? FIT is okay i mean there's like 4 famous ones but their skills and talents are no where near all those people i mentioned above!!
@yeasmin1987 - Just a word to the wise that thr Students Review site has a lot of negative (red square) posts by former students about Parsons (one of those private for-profit tech schools). Better to look into a traditional university (even community college first) that is also accredited by National Association of Schools of Art and Design.
I actually agree with you. Parsons is extremely overrated. It is NOT worth the 50,000 price tag.. Noone outside the North knows the New School name and a BFA at parsons is considered a joke in Parish. Most of the students at Parsons spread mediocrity and are horribly arrogant. Hopefully you transfered out, I wouldn't stand being in that school.
Any advice for getting into Parsons? I know I need to sketch and stuff, but anything else?!
