Ditto Bluegrass!! And I am a player. Have been for years. When you spend time learning and playing covers that people want to hear it does not take long to realize the music scene has been a dripping sewer pipe for several years.
All of a sudden, I'm back at a very special time in my life, visiting a park in Illinois (Arcola, Illinois) and discovering that, in two hours, Gary Lewis would be playing. We had no idea and seeing him do his old hits was better than great. I think I'd trade all of my tomorrows for one more of those days. Thank you SO MUCH for posting, Laura.
Thanks, Doug, for your comment. By the way, I use to live in Oakland, Illinois...just a little ways from Arcola (In the 80;s). Where was the park you saw Gary Perform? I hope he'll perform here in Florida again. You are so right...he puts on an unforgettable show and takes you back in time. Hope you saw the other videos I posted of this same concert. Thanks again! thank you very much for posting the songs of gary lewis songs. it reminds me so much of my college days.this is one of the favorites of my spouse whom we met in college.
Thank you for the share... This is great, nice to see him all grown up, but my favorite is the one with the little girls, where his dad introduces the song, and sounds like he had a nip of the bubblycheer....nice!
Thanks so much for a your comment! I love to hear from young people like yourself who really appreciate classics like this one! Thanks again! Laura (:
@bluugrass Well thats in the eye of the beholder. In 30 years time maybe the kids will be saying that" they don't make em like Lady( boy) Gaga,or Usher anymore"
I agree with you that the muisic from that period was far better than lots today but still,it's subjective.Things have to move on.
Thanks for the info...I wasn't aware of that about Gary. (My father was born in the Philippines...my grandmother was filipino) Thanks, again for getting back with me! Laura (:
its all over local t.v here,he's in the philippines right now and is having a concert.(maybe it was 3 days ago,i'm not sure when i saw the news if it was last week or 2-3 days ago)
Gary you the BEST you were my inspitacion on the 60's and I was meet you in Playland NY oh wow now I got here my music too (Coche y sus Amigos) but you always my inspiration you the GREAT......MENNNNNNNN
believe it or not this was my favorite song when I was six years old, I played the 45 over and over and over until I was ten. then along came Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin, Alice Cooper and the Stones. Gary Lewis and the Playboys forever man!
Read up about him-He made it without anyone knowing he was Jerry Lewis' son-nobody knew about that until after he hit it big. I met him briefly-a really nice guy-and was stunned at how good the band was. I was at a show that a lot of bands from the '60's and '70's like April Wine and BST played, and Gary held his own. Good to see he still is having fun at it....
Thanks for the interesting comments. Did you check out the "Mustang Sally" clip? Great instrumental in that one. I agree, the band is really great and they put a lot work and effort into every show. Thanks again.
Hi Milarpro, Was this video taken at the Volusia County Fair back in 2007? I was there too. Saw both shows as a matter of fact. Keep up the good work.
Hi Steve, We were there! As you can see we were on the front row to the left. I also posted other clips from this performance. I hope they come back, don't you? Thanks so much for your nice comments! Laura (o:
gary wrote this song for his dad? well, all that i can say is that i've never really liked jerry. and amongst all of the kids of the celebrities, most of which have NO talent, gary lewis just shines. he had so very many good songs. his daddy should be really proud.
Thanks for commenting,jade0425. I never met Gary but he seems like a genuine guy. I also admire that he continues to perform and keep an era of music alive for us to enjoy!
Yes! He was at the Volusia County Fairgrounds (Tommy Lawrence Arena) in Deland, Fl November of last year. It was a really good show and he looks good!
Thanks for posting this. I got to see Gary at Chicagfest a few years back. I always hope each year that he would be on the telethon.
