Well they came on air in 2006. It probably just wasn't that popular and they decided to wrap it up. Wo knew they'd get a generation of fans in America within the next two years, though. Heh. They should make a season 2.

I couldn't answer for sure, but I think it's because while the manga was directed toward an audience of males, the musicals tend to appeal to females more and therefore they decided to use the male characters only.
