She never said that she designed his shoes. She JUST WORE THEM. She was an ardent mcqueen admirer and he ADMIRED HER TOO.
Whatever shit you say but GaGa is also an artist and a great singer. She knows her work well and she's a creative woman. GaGa and Mcqueen complement each other. And both are/were geniuses. People juz hate her because she chooses her art to be simple and outrageous. -.-
was there too when they were featuring the exbit of queen's collection. They were also featuring this special effects CGI ( i think) of this woman dancing? It had something to do with Kate Moss.. and there was this beautiful music playing in the background.. do you know the name of the song? Anyone? i really want to listen to it again.
had no idea what this human being had accomplished. so glad my boyfriend and friends wanted to see it. 4.5 hour wait on final weekend - so worth it, it was magical. curated beautifully, do think the room with accessories and video was too small - so much to see and too many people in the way!
Went the last night. When we finally got inside the exibit around midnight after waiting 3 hours (and me not knowing much about McQueen) and I started to read some of his quotes and take it all in it did stir something inside me. The way he was able to express and channel his emotions into something tangible in that way was quite amazing. He really was a genius. And the way it was presented was brilliant. It wound up being quite an experience and I’m glad I went.
I loved it! it was amazing, when i went there weren't LOTS of people so it was easy to just check everything out. I do wish they wouldve extended it since so many couldnt see it. I went with a friend (her first time) on saturday and had to leave because the lines were ridiculous long. It's a HUGE shame such an artist committed suicide. So much talent wasted.
I think its amazing there is an exhibit, but alexander mcqueen was british and i think we should also have an exhibit here in england, its only logical we should have one here as well
I just went earlier today for the finale, i felt it was more symbolic and was so worth the 5 hour wait, yes FIVE! there will be no other like him, every ounce of his tormented soul and plagues from his angels from the depths of hell went into his creations and hes more than inspiration, hes hope.
does anyone know what song was playing in the 2nd room Gothic Romantic? I was oddly lulled by it : ) Long live McQueen!
I have to say, I had my doubts while waiting on the 2 hour line, but holy shit it was worth it. his works are truly one of a kind and I felt honored to see them before the exhibit closed
There are always exhibitions at the Museum at FIT that feature Alexander McQueen ensembles and also shoes accessories etc.)
A few pieces in "Savage Beauty" I have seen at FIT while I was attending school there. I've seen the red dress (shown in the Cabinet of Curiosities room...the one from the "Joan" collection) in two different exhibits.
One thing that disappointed me about "Savage Beauty" was that there were no sample sketches or other misc. things that show the process behind McQueen's work. The catalog doesn't even have such info. But I always knew one day McQueen would have a show at an institution like the Met. Overall, they did an excellent job presenting what they could squeeze into the biggest special exhibition space in the building.
I'm still surprised they chose to hold this show in the USA rather than UK.
Saw this exhibition toiday. No words could possibly describe his genius as an artist. I loved how he didnt care what others thought. "I don't care if they like my work or not just as long as they feel something from." ...spoken like a true artistic king <3
Just saw the exhibit today. The exhibit rooms are packed and it can be distracting to overhear some of the comments, but ultimately, nothing can detract from McQueen's vision and work. It is stunning, brilliant, intense. I may brave the lines again just to see this IRL one more time. I can not say exactly why, other than that there is this primal and instinctual energy surrounding these collections, something that speaks to the ancient emotional reptilian core of our earthly souls.
I saw this last week. I thought it was really wonderful. And usually I'm not a big fan of high fashion like that, but I made an exception that day. Also I swear I heard Bjork's 'Frosti' when I walked into the Romantic Exoticism part. Which was one of my favorite parts, by the way (next to Cabinet of Curiosities)
I saw this exhibit a week ago, and I'm still floored, even though I thought I was mentally prepared to see the pieces in person. I'm attempting to put together a mix of the songs from the exhibit, just so I can take Savage Beauty with me everywhere.
I saw the exhibit yesterday. The general feeling at the exhibit was that everyone was blown away by the brilliance and artistry of McQueen's work. I was moved to tears a few times by the creativity and by the sad remembrance that McQueen died such a tragic, wasteful death. The line was hours long, but it was well worth it. Stunning exhibit.
@greenranger8100 You had to wait for hours to see it???? Geez, I saw it the day after it opened and it was packed (which I expected)...but I'm surprised people still have to wait since it's been open for two months already.
And yeah I agree with your Lady Gaga comment...but unfortunately I think her name is now attached to his for eternity.
@ellisrose exactly.thats why i was so mad.!people arent willing to open up their minds.their opinions are spoonfed to them so they have no real thought on anything.you give them art they give you shit.unfortunatley those women were to dim to recognize what was before them.idiots.
I am desperately searching for that song. Is this the one playing in the video here? Where could I get this? Makon disco bloodbath? Let me know please when you find it.
Plato's Atlantis and The Widows of Culloden were awesome, but, nothing tops The Horn of Plenty, sad that there were no clips of that collection in this video.
Well people don't know anything about fashion, so anything they see special or wild is Ga Ga. I study fashion, and those people often ask me "so you dress like Ga Ga?" I was like, WTF? Anywayz I went to the exhibition, and it was AMAZING! Esp with the music, I saw his world. It was so real and so sad, I wanted to cry. What a genius Mcqueen is!
The exhibition has recreated the grandeur which best signifies McQueen's creativity and artistry. The well thought out setup, the clever play with lights and sound and movement, brought to live the genius whom not many of us have had the privilege to meet. Hail McQueen & Welldone Costume Institute!

The exhibition is said not to be going to London, as most pieces are too delicate to ship over and belong to people who bought them as show pieces. They are possibly doing a different one in London, with clothes that are over there.. IT WAS THE MOST AMAZING EXHIBITION I HAVE EVER SEEN!! Such a talent, and makes me proud to be British!! LONG LIVE McQUEEN!!

Saw the exhibit this weekend and while I "appreciated" his work before, seeing this really made me respect him. It wasn't "fashion" or "making clothes" really, to him, it was sculpture, it was performance art. Whole new respect for him when I came out of it...
I went to the exhibit. I cried with joy. It was so amazing and intense in emotion.
I hated how alot of people there was saying its so Lady Gaga, and that this isn't art, that he is a disturbed person. Honestly the exhibit evokes what we are as humans in my opinion.
@ellabelladreams Wow, people were really thinking that? They just didn't get how amazing he was: religion, politic, history... he just told stories through his collections. Oh, I can't believe if I were to go to the exhibit, I'm litteraly dreaming of seeing his pieces in reality. I think I would cry too, such a genius...
I live in France so it is impossible for me to go to New-York, the exhibit needs to come to London, he was british after all !
@jeremy538754 u kbnow there is nothing wrong if people wud say that alexander's collections are soo lady gaga since lady gaga is really using his works. from guestings to music videos.
@ellabelladreams pls ...lady gaga just came in at the end of his life and took those shoes. Gaga basically curates and steals...where else McQueen is the creator and genius.
His designs were absolutely beautiful, so indescribable because of how impeccably brilliant and innovative they were. I will not be missing out on this exhibit, and probably will cry a bit when I see these clothes up close. We'll miss you McQ, but I'm forever grateful Sarah Burton has stepped up in your shoes -- she's also extremely fabulous! :')
I'm an aspiring designer but I never saw anything so intimidating like McQueen's creation.

Bjork wore that red "microscope slide" gown (shown at the very beginning of the video) during her 2001 concert tour.
When she performed "Isobel" she made the dress bounce up and down and bits and pieces would fall off the dress and everyone went nuts.

The only connection with Lady Gaga is that she wore some of his pieces in her Bad Romance video. Lee McQueen created all of it; she just used it.

Also, a sometimes frightening look into what stimulated Alexander Mcqueen to create. Some of the most impeccable couture work that I have ever seen.
