He was DANGEROUSLY misguided and derranged, but he had an ounce of hope. Wound up loosing the girl because he was so cruel, but he deserved SOME love. Maybe he should have just NOT tried to kill people.

Ok maybe Chrissy isn't dangerous.. yet.. but she seems to have some sort of mental malfunction, from the way her perception of Eric keeps changing. At times she thinks he's her dead father, other times she thinks he's an angel sent by her father, and others she seems to know he's a deformed guy in a mask.

I love this scene so much. It makes me cry. This scene clearly shows that Erik was a man and not some sort of monster. I just want to give him a big hug and tell him it will be okay even though I know he murdered some people. All he wanted was to be loved for himself.
Why would they take this out? Just listening to Erik sing "No one would listen," right after he sets down the rose made me burst into tears. Did they not see how emotional and how this scene puts such a depth to Erik? Jee... taking this out was possibly the stupidest thing they could have done.

In Love Never Dies we find out Christine's son is also Erick's son. Also, we see that Christine always loved the Erick, especially when Meg shot her, and she dies in Erick's arms. Christine says her love for Erick will never die, and they share a final kiss.
So she did love him.
AND in The Phantom of the Opera, when Christine kisses Erick, that is her choosing the phantom, and not Raul.

Would any ladies out there REALLY pick The Phantom? Regardless of his motives for killing, the guy has serious issues and he's a definite fixer-upper. From my experience, fixer-uppers don't get the girl. Many women say they would not mind putting in the effort to rehab a guy but few would really do it. Who wants damaged goods?

I've just realized - At the end, Phantom says "Christine I love you.". Raoul never says that to her. Even in AIAOY, when she says, "Say you love me," he says "You know I do". I saw the sequel to this, Love Never Dies. Pretty fucking great. Not really a theatre person and it blew me away.
They should have kept this in the movie. It shows what he suffered in the past, and how much he could really relate to Christine.

Why would they take this out? Just listening to Erik sing "No one would listen," right after he sets down the rose made me burst into tears. Did they not see how emotional and how this scene puts such a depth to Erik? Jee... taking this out was possibly the stupidest thing they could have done.
He sounds so vulnerable. I just want to jump in the picture and give Erik a great big hug. It sounds like he truly needs one. He truly is an outcast, and his one light abandoned him. Poor guy.

I can't believe they would take this out of the movie! it gives us a whole new perspective on Erik and how he really feels about Christine. Oh, and Gerard Butler is absolutely amazing is this move! :)

How do you teach a man to be good when the world offered him only bad because of his face? how do you teach a man about love when none was offered in return? how do you teach a man about right and wrong when all that is done to him is wrong? That was the phantom's problem, he had no love in his life, no love in his world of darkness, then Christine came along and he found he loved her, she was his light in the darkness to show him the way to happiness but she loved another. Poor Phantom...

In Love Never Dies we find out Christine's son is also Erick's son. Also, we see that Christine always loved the Erick, especially when Meg shot her, and she dies in Erick's arms. Christine says her love for Erick will never die, and they share a final kiss.
So she did love him.
AND in The Phantom of the Opera, when Christine kisses Erick, that is her choosing the phantom, and not Raul.

i hope im right because honestly its been forever since ive watched the entire movie without skipping to my fav. parts and i cant really remember :)

@ricanbutterfly20 You watched it here on utube,or do you have the DVD??Its on the 2Dvd boxed set, and if you dont know its tricky to find.Theres wiggly patterns to click on.When I EVENTUALLY worked it out, I cried my head off - and then cried again because of the song! Im not the only one - others had trouble finding it too!!!

Would any ladies out there REALLY pick The Phantom? Regardless of his motives for killing, the guy has serious issues and he's a definite fixer-upper. From my experience, fixer-uppers don't get the girl. Many women say they would not mind putting in the effort to rehab a guy but few would really do it. Who wants damaged goods?

@GlambertsFTW You're right! This scene belonged in the film but it wasn't due to the fact that they knew inevitably Christine would choose Raoul which in itself is wrong. She made it out of fear and in the spur of the moment, not the right time or place to make such a decision.

what raoul and christine have are true, but what the phantom have for christine was also true. it's just that he never really had a mark on the outside world besides music, his opera, and he wanted christine to be his one and only.

I've just realized - At the end, Phantom says "Christine I love you.". Raoul never says that to her. Even in AIAOY, when she says, "Say you love me," he says "You know I do". I would never get engaged to someone who had never once said the magic words to me. I love the Phantom so much, I think it's a little unhealthy...

I think that Christine was being selfish, because she loved both Erik and Raoul, but Erik NEEDED her more, after all his years of abuse. He deserves love in his life! Raoul would have gone on without her and maybe find someone else, but chances are that Erik won't. Stupid, stupid Christine, one day she'll see the error of her ways, but by then it would be too late!

@eugenie1967 Yeah! Erik saw the potential in her voice and noticed her when no one else did, while Raoul only noticed her when she became a prima donna! I think the reason Christine chose Raoul (other than her insensitivity and ungratefulness) was because Raoul was the simplest choice. I mean, anybody can love and be loved by a Raoul, but only really special people are loved by Erik! Christine should consider herself to be lucky…

@LibraStudios I agree!!! However, I think that C was very confussed ....and she loved him deep inside her! Maybe not strong enough! At the begining she was fascinated and attracted by him! She was feeling passion and desire for him(in the MOTN and in the PONR) but when Erik killed innocent people she was afraid of him! She was also very young! I try hard to find excuses for her ...... For sure she never understood him, never felt his pain and his loneliness!!!!!
