The white iPhone 4 isn't identical. They have reworked its antenna. Don't believe me? Look at the top edge of a black one, you'll notice there's a break in the stainless band between the headphone socket and the lock switch. You wont find this same break in the antenna on the top edge of the white version, but instead it has been moved to just above the silent switch. Apparently the reception issues of the black model needed fixing and apparently on a white iPhone this issue has been addressed.
