My grandfather served in the red army during the war against Hitler. He came with the red army from Volga to Berlin and wrote his name on Reichstag's walls. He dyed of injuries two weeks after he came back home. He said that sometimes soviet army use to put the so called "shtrafbat" (russian political prisoners who voluntered to go to th war instead of GULAG)in front of the attacking troops of infantery divisions... War brings out the worst in us humans and there where attrocities comitted on all sides in the 2nd World War. When Germany launched Operation Barbarossa, the attack on the Soviet Union, the goal was to sujugate or kill the entire population. This was politically motivated by the Nazi creed. When the Red Army later struck back into Germany they where motivated by propaganda and the suffering of the Soviet people to commit crimes against the Germans.

My grandfather served in the red army during the war against Hitler. He came with the red army from Volga to Berlin and wrote his name on Reichstag's walls. He dyed of injuries two weeks after he came back home. He said that sometimes soviet army use to put the so called "shtrafbat" (russian political prisoners who voluntered to go to th war instead of GULAG)in front of the attacking troops of infantery divisions... It's very sad, but it is a part of our history, we won because we had no choise.

Actually more. Rydiger Overmans estimated that 85% of all German military losses came from eastern front. 4.5 million german soldiers were killed in eastern front. In western 330 000 during 1940-44, 150 000 in Italy during 1943-45 and only 16 000 in overhyped north Africa battles during 1941-43. In Balkan germans lost 130 000 soldiers and in Scandinavia (Finland) 30 000.

And no, Hitler was no Christian. He despised Christianity as an alien religion from the Orient and threw any clergy who dared oppose him into concentration camps.
And kindly back up your contention that World War II was somehow in the name of God. Hitler and Stalin were avowed atheists who perpetrated more evil on humanity than was ever seen before or since.

Actually kmillard, Hitler was catholic. He never officially denounced the Christian faith and allowed churches in the Reich. I agree he was not a good/practicing Christian (because of what he allowed) but he was Christian. Stain actually was raised Russian Orthodox Catholic and almost became a priest, but he did eventually admitted to being Atheist.

In 1941, the russians where putting up a stiff resistant to the germans, but the germans pushed them abck to moscow, Stalin couldve have pulled his forces back to siberia, then in 1942-43, the russians started kicking the germans ass. I respect the russian soldiers and the German soldiers

yeah and the west was sooo totally against the axis powers, they never gave corporate support to the rise of the nazis, IBM never developed computers to help maximize the efficiency of the holocaust, and detroit automakers never helped Japan produce military materiel by selling them pretty much most of the street cars in the US.

It's easy to claim Monty or the 3rd could have taken Berlin and stopped the Soviets. There's a problem with that--the Red Army. We had neither the manpower nor the will to start another world war at the end of the last one. By '45 the Red Army was highly mechanized, well equipped, very experienced and in full battle frenzy. The time to put Stalin in his place was not 45 but 41. That's when we failed.

Hitler was worse than Stalin. Considering the atrocities the Nazis had done to the Russian people, Germany deserved all that happened to it. Besides, the ones that raped the German women were not frontline soldiers, they were reserves, and most were liberated POWs - thus revenge was fresh on their mind. More Jews died than Germans as well.

What is the difference between frontline and reverve soldiers? They represented the USSR. The Germans prefered to surrender to the western allies who were more civilised.
Eisenhower prevented Monty from taking Berlin who was within easy reach of the German capital. In a way, Ike was the origin of the cold war.
