What he says is true, I started to sing/say the words to songs or tunes of notes when I started to play guitar and it is really hard at first but within no time you will be able to play AND sing at the same time and it helps keep you in rhythm without a beat or bass line/metronome

that's great and all but I wonder if I would rather waste my time playing exercises that don't have any musical relevance in my playing (and sound really annoying btw.) when I could rather play my pentatonic- or blues-scales or whatever and have the same warmup and speed-gaining effect as with this kind of exercise. Same goes for the Petrucci-exercise (quite similar to this one) btw. I always like to have a musical benefit when doing exercises. Maybe I just don't get it or it's just me.
