  • Indian clothes is so beautiful. I love this yellow color.

  • Wow....she was too good...Very nicely she put that saadi on..

  • Thank you!!

  • she moves so quickly in yet everything is so precise. beautiful song.

  • Is it true that no sari is complete unless you have bangles?

  • @135youtubian It appears to me that this is true. If I wear a sari in India, often my women friends will tell me I need bangles.

  • shes kinda chnky, although she did make her sari look ver elegant. :)

  • hey thanks a lot

    by for this video

  • Awesome...Im wearing one for my Muslim wedding and this was just what I needed to see!

  • Thanks to Viju. Thanks a lot.

  • It's nice but it is to complicated to put on.

  • Beautiful! Thank you. :)

  • nice!

  • Thats great !!. I am still having trouble with my sari..LOL. I have posted a pic on how to wear a half sari. Its a simple version that is easy for young girls.

  • good. it's nice.

  • Excellent music

  • Thats so beautiful its like wearing art

  • @theK3wl she is so mommy like. . .reminds me of my mom. . .

  • just beautiful

  • beautiful!!! I love it !!

  • this pretty much the same as how africans wrap themselves

  • i don't know how africans wrap themselves but i've seen them wear what they wear, and this is just totally different, wearing a saree is really complicated for a lot of people its something, such as cooking, for example that you learn from your mother, when you become a woman, i'm freakin 18 yrs. old, Indian and I still cant do it right lol

  • @2766rod

    Uh, y?? :)

It isnt too bad, although may not be as elegant but definitely gives a look of modesty.

  • aaww...! saris are so pretty and comfortable looking; wish i had one!

  • @AnitaCheesecake

They sure could be.....'hope u still say this after wearing them too though! :)

  • very nice video, thank you very much! Does anybody know what shoes you should use to a sari?

  • Strappy sandals are usually best.

  • heels go well too. many options. just make sure your entire feet is visible uptop.

  • How much material should I be looking for if I were to make my own? Joanne's has some beautiful Sari material!!! Where would I find the little top?

  • Saris are usually about a 6-7 metre piece of fabric, with the end piece cut off to make the choli (blouse). You will also need a cotton petticoat to tuck the sari into.

  • @deyalexander

Sometimes the blouse is made of different (usually cotton) material to the Sare, so is bought separately too.

  • More women need to wear these, they're so feminine and beautiful (just like Viju). I got a bunch off ebay to wear on a regular basis! LOL I just might retire my jeans and t-shirts unless I plan on painting my house!

  • what a beautiful woman...and she is so carefull with the sari...she makes an art of it...God bless you!

  • She is beautiful and she makes wrapping a sari look very easy. Finally, I can get mine out without too much drama, but am nowhere near as graceful as Viju is in this video.

  • Yes, very nicely explained. However, now there is a new gadget in the market. Sari Saheli - it is a pleat maker. Makes neat and even pleats so easy. Check it out at sarisaheli website.

  • @sunitijain yes there are gadgets in the market but i think it's better to do it by hand so you cn the real experience on pleating

  • she is an accomplished lady and behind a CUCKOO BIRD's voice is very pleasing

  • Lovely Saree - gorgeous colour. And, you made it look soooo easy! thanks from Australia

  • Thank you so much as an american woman the saree is so mysterious and beautiful and what a great model

  • Just amazing!

  • very beautiful :)

  • That a beautiful colour!

I love saris, I'm getting one to wear for my wedding

  • Is Amazing!! So so Beautiful!!

    Thank you Lakismi!!!!

  • Gorgeous!!!

  • sarees are beautiful! :) she did a great job!

  • I love how she drops her pallu in a sensual way,@ least she's got guts to show how to wear a saree...sensual yellow saree n blouse!

  • this was very helpful thanks

  • Thanks, Rosy !! I've finally learned to pleat the pallu. Your video is the best. Moving to Pimpri ,Pimple Nilakh in Sept. I want to look nice in my sarees.

  • Viju is right.....it is pretty easy. Many thanks to whoever posted this vid because it helped me a lot and still does.

As a "dumb American", I never found this hard to do, even on the first try. A little tricky, but not hard. My pallau ends up too long sometimes though.....

  • wow she is good at doing the pleats >.>

  • WOW!! She makes it look so easy, she must be an expert!

  • just WOW! you just made it look sooo easy! My friends and I are wearing Sari tomorrow for a one dish party and they'll love this info!

  • i'm black and love the indian clothing.don't have the names of the outfits down pat just yet.i'm planning on wearing a saree to my youngest sisters wedding this august, her wedding is red and gold, and there is an indian mall here in georgia called Global Mall that i plan on buying my outfit from.i've bought outfits from this mall before and recieved plenty of compliments on them

  • I love to see the sari. I got a salwar kameez and a choli with a dupatta from my mom's co worker for Christmas. I love them!! I would love to wear a sari though. By the way, I am Black(African American).

  • Thanks so MUCH :) I'm wearing a Sari for my 25th wedding anniversary in August. I LOVE they way you wrapped the Sari and I'm wondering if there is a way to permananely attach the pleats to the petticoat so one could just get into it like a skirt and toos thre palau over the shoulder? Thanks again

  • does anyone know were i can buy sarees that are not too expencive?

  • Gorgeous! I thank you for teaching this technique.

  • i have always wanted to know how to do this. thank you for your video

  • She makes it look so easy but its not lol, practise makes perfect I guess but my mum still has to do it for me most of the time

    cheerz

  • how many yards of fabric does it take?

  • it's usually between 6-9 yards i think :)

  • it's 5 meters

  • Just stopping by to say that the comments on this page make me smile. I love seeing that we can appreciate each others cultures and are open to learning AND sharing. Just wanted to stop by and say that. :)

  • I like the end of the video where you're like...see, that's all there is to it, what's so hard about it? :) Many western women forget that the pleats make the sari beautiful, they just crumple the sari at the shoulder and call it done, that's wrong. You wore the sari beautifuly. thanks for posting.

  • I love the woman in the video... quintessentially Indian... tasteful and simple

  • Wow...you're going to look SO beautiful!! Congratulations! :)

  • I will need some help on how can I find some mehndi artists in the Seattle Washington area that can give me the traditional bridal package with traditional hair do but I'm not 100 pounds, I'm bigger. I'm worried that the saree will make me look too fat, is that so? How can I wear it in a way that I don't look like if I'm pregnant with triplets? I know normal women in India are not models, are just real women with real bodies. Can you help?

    Thank You!

    Jennifer Hiraldo-Figueroa

  • The sari won't make you look fat. In fact, it will cover those embaressing parts and smooth out your curves. You will look gorgeous, because the sari accetuates the female form in vertical ways, not horizontal. So it will make you look taller and thinner. Hope this helps. I have no idea about a hindu wedding artist though. good luck to you. I wish you all the best in your married life. have fun!!!

  • True! I JUST wore one to my friends wedding (she is Hindu) and I felt so feminine! It was a pretty lavender color. I guess what I was trying to say is that because I am Black, people would think it strange for me to wear a sari. However, I wear lots of outfits from different cultures so maybe not! :)

  • well, if you wear it in non-Indian context people may think it strange as a non-Indian, I'm European and I nly wear sarees in Indian-contexts for this reason, it easier to wear a salwar otherwise

  • wow, id never really thought of a black person eearing a sari, i always think of indea, lol, that and we dont have really cultured people in uor nieborhood, all the indian famalies a scared of the locals(the yo-boys give us a bad name)

but a black person wearing a sari would look bueatiful, i can imagin that coolor looking great on you

lol, srry im rambaling i just kinda woke up and dont kno wen to stop talking...or typing would be correct

  • LOL...it's ok! Thank you for your sweet comment! :)

  • You know, I've seen African women traditionally dressed in bright cloths that look very much to me like a sari. I'm black (well, mixed) and cannot tie a sari, but I do wear salwar kameez right often.

I don't get "too" many looks since many people mistake me for being "non-black" anyway. They do, however, stare more when I'm with my obviously-more-Black-looking husband and daughter. But I just ignore the stares....I'm comfortable and modestly dressed in pretty colors, so it's all good.

  • well, if you don't wear the sari properly, you will get some looks from Indian women. It all depends on how you wore your sari and if you flowed with it. It's an icon of another's culture, so I would keep that in mind. Anyway, my saturday is wasted again on youtube lol. later.

  • k that was perfect now i can tie my own thanks

  • oh wow, how beautiful! thank you so much for posting this video, she looks so elegant and classy. that color looks great on her. <3!

  • I wish I were Indian so I could wear a sari a nd have no one give me strange looks. You look so beautiful and classy. Thanks for posting this demonstration!

  • Very nice demonstration thank you! It's the first I have seen where the back is shown during the demo so that the viewer can see what happens to the fabric. Thank you, just what I've been looking for.

  • Just love the music and background sounds(and curious to know the name of it)

  • This video is excellent. Thank you so much!

  • thanks sooo much for this video. it was very helpful!!! i'm moving to india and can't wait to begin wearing sarees.

  • i just love sari.. because they are nice to look at..

  • aaaah, just beautiful!

  • Excellent. Sari always looks elegant

  • Wow, it looks so beautiful,, I'm a bit anxious, i've been invited to a valima (through a muslim friend) and i've never worn anything like this, instead of trying a sari maybe I should look for lenghas?...

  • NICE.

  • Really excellent tutorial. Simple, elegant, no frills, well-filmed, showing what we must see to understand.

It's true that it will take you up to thirty minutes to get the pleats right the first time, then, as with everything, practice makes perfect.

  • Very pretty.I have always wondered how its done.

  • wow perfect sari

  • Wow, that is so beautiful! What a lovely culture and the music creates that mood....again WOW! I wish that she could have done it alittle slower, it was hard to follow. But still lovely!

  • Hi, Viju: As lovely as ever. I always have you and Rosy in my heart. Giselle from Mexico

  • Hey Viju, it´s Michael from Spain.

What a surprise to see you here. As always, helping others in their lives.

    God bless you all!

Greetings for Rosy also and her family at Vasai

  • Can i ask what u wear???

    That must bee even wierd!

Saree is the beautifull dress ever made by human!

  • OMG she does it so fast! it takes me like ten minutes to wrap a sari! gaaa! also does anyone know why they have seven pleats?

    please reply :) thx

  • Who said they have seven pleats? If you're thin you have more pleats, if you're fat you have much less.

  • Oh! cool i didn't know that =o

i read a book tht said they have seven

but that makes more sence cuz then you could still use the same amount of fabric on all people sizes

    MAKES SENCE!!!

    thx!!

  • wow it luk soo easy..but if i try,i suck in it...i can't do it's hard..i'm sure she has lots of experience in that....this helped me..thanks

  • Perfect understanding after watching this video, she is very beautiful.

  • thank you! this helped.

  • Wonderful! And yes, she makes it look..well, like she's been wraping it for years. Duh...makes me want to wear one all the time.

  • She makes it look easy!

  • What a gem!! :-)
