Pick gets a different sound. A pick is used in only 3 Muse songs, Map of the Problematique, Assassin and knights of Cydonia. They wanted the bass to sound "ruder", so Chris used a pick to get the heavier sound.

This extention of assassin comes from an older version of assassin they played many years before. The name of the older versions varied depending on what time era of muse it was, the names are Debase Masons Grog, Messageboard Song, Auditory Masks, Cold Aqua Tomato (most known name),and Demonocracy. Assassin was the formal song of all of these.

@SephirothRaiku The riff at the end is from the early version of the song, and its soo awesome. It's actually a mix of Rachmaninov Prelude in G minor and originally was accompied by a verse to go with it and it was also the song interlude not at the end..:D
