You're better off buying something with 15K Drives and a high speed, and very wide SCSI output. You'll really only get an IO fast enough to support this in a real server. Look on ebay for a DL380 and a MSA100 and you can use openfiler for iSCSI :P

Why did you go for this solution over a typical rackmount hotswap server/NAS?

They are more energy efficient and the software that supports said devices is very powerful if you leverage it to suit your needs.

We have 11 Dell PowerEdge Servers in our rack at current and would never go elsewhere at this stage. So I recommend Dell to you for future storage purchases.

Because IBM keep kicking their ass. HP new blade enclosure doesn't support old blades, and old blades dont fit in the new enclosures. So HP won't support customers who dont upgrade to brand new blades.

This is why IBM are the current leaders in the blade area because their enclosures are more power efficient (less power lost as heat) and it is backwards compatible.

I like this HDD Enclosures very much, i paln to equip my home Computer with 6 of this enclosures too.

The Server is fully in use without any malfunction and manages 6-8 Millions OF Euros sales value per Year.
