  • Maybe a bass trombone with a mute will fit better. ;)

  • this tuba player sucks

  • i mean i like the sousaphone but not to fond of the player.

  • Yeah! Baby! Dig it!

  • They were both my high school band directors and they are happily married and have recently had a beautiful baby girl!!! LOVE THEM! GO BUCKS!

  • SHEET MUSIC?!?!?

  • kinda bothered me the sousa didnt have the fast part too, if it were me, i would been like BRING IT ON!!!!!!!

  • I play the flute, so I vote for the flute. :D

  • Why is it so slow?

  • Great performance

    I LOLed, I applauded.

  • the sousaphone was from like 1948 and it had 2 leaks in it when this was filmed, i konw because he's my music teacher

  • I just want to say, the sousaphone looks awesome with a tux.

  • good tuba sound!

  • There's a lot of clams in the sousa line.

  • 楽しかったですね!

  • Good playing Sousaphone but go fast then the flute in the break down cause i want to hear the Sousa do the banjo part

  • Flute FTW!

  • ehhhhhhh tuning and intonation please? Please, the sousaphone sounds horrible

  • Ugh...way to cheesy...it's making me sick

  • It's very nice. Good job. I hope they get married and have lots of babies.

  • @angriffeins They did! Well.... babies not yet

  • as a fellow tuba, i say fuck you Noogit1

  • you better shut the fuck up.

  • we had two brothers on xylophone do this last year in band...The band accompied them later in the song

  • the bigger the instrument the harder it is to play fast

  • lies

  • This comment is the biggest crock ever. The less you practice the harder it is to play. My guess is the girl has two band classes and does marching band and very little time to practice. The tuba player I am not convinced plays tuba as his primary instrument. A little discipline and daily practice goes a long way. No high school tuba player who is serious about music should sound this rough.

  • @jameslandonband yes i agree with you by the sound of that high note and the vibrato i'd say he plays either Bass Clef Baritone since he knows the fingerings or he plays trombone and learned the fingerings

  • I concur

  • anyone else bugged by intonation?

  • @MichaelManthing

    You aren't the only one!!

  • @MichaelManthing dude its a sousaphone, ive never heard or played a sousaphone with great intonation, thats just the nature of the instrument

  • @MichaelManthing nope the cameras in those days weren't as good. Sounds great! I was there!!!!

  • @MichaelManthing That's not intonation, those are wrong notes.

  • I want that sheet music so bad!!!!!!)x

  • amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing!!!! i'm a flute player, but my goodness. i could never play like that. 5 stars for playing banjo rhythms on a flute.

  • a very beautiful peice.

id love to get my hands on that music if u knew these people personaly.

it would be great for our anual talent show.

  • beautiful silver sous

  • i really dont like this. BUT i dont know ne thing about it. So there's no reason 4 me to say nething BAD....ummm...good job??

  • If you dont like it, then there's nothing wrong with it.

  • i already said that.

  • Go flutes!

  • SHITE

  • There is no audience present at this performance. Had they performed in front of a live audience there would be some audible reaction . . . .laughs, boos, hisses, and flying tomatoes. These two make mimes feel safe. I prefer the toothless banjo picker in Deliverance. Just kidding! 5 stars.

  • flutesheeeeeetmusic? :)

  • loooooove it! I would love to do this with one of the tuba players in our band!!!!

  • i gotta get me a sousaphone ive got a bresson international but its in crap condition

  • would love to play this with my friend who plays flute.

  • I would love to have the music to this. I have 2 granchildren that play the Sousa and 1 granchild that plays the flute, all in one family. They would love to play this next year in the Band Concert

  • Does anyone know where to find this arrangement?

  • You've got it right there. Just write it down!

Must be inspired by Martin Mull's 70's "Duelling Tubas."

  • Bravo !! great performance !!!

  • hahahaa this is awesomee.

the tuba balance would have been better if it weren't the sousa blasting the camera mic.

    :D

  • This is different....lol good job

  • WTF!!! They're only in high school and it's actually very good. Have you ever seen this music? It's incredibly hard and that flute barely missed anything. BTW, if you think that youtube isn't for amateurs then who is it for?

  • BTW why hide your criticism by typing in Italian?

  • WTF you say it to everybody elese but not to me, we don't know each other!!Is very difficult not to be rude for people who burb in public..I am italian and I'm proud of it so I don't see the reason why I can't write in my own language! Not everything in this world is american by the way...I'm doing you a favour typeing in English.

So.. You say that they are only in hign school...when I was in high school I won national and international prizes.

  • Good for you, you can play something really well, but that doesn't make it so you have to insult others for trying their best. BTW, what part of Italy? I was there this summer and noticed that the culture differed a ton depending on where you were. BTW sorry for the WTF, I was having a bad day, sorry that I can't reply in Italian either, I'm an American Idiot who can't speak anything except English and Spanish

  • cool!!

  • GREAT job!!!

  • DID YOU find this music I would love to play it with my friend that plays Flute, i am a tubist despite my Youtube name

  • thank you! you called it a sousaphone, not a tuba!!

  • I feel guilty, but i want to steal the music to this and perform it myself

cause there is too much awesome in this video

  • it's supposed to be faster at 2:18.

  • have you ever looked at the music its hard

  • yep. and i played the banjo part on baritone. it's just lip slurs really

  • flutes cant do lip slurs

  • never said they could

  • Me and my friend are doing that, but i'm playing the bastuba and she is playing the piccolaflute :) But we are not that good :)

  • fa proprio cagare scusate....

  • nell'ultima parte la flautista è fuori tempo XD

  • the sousaphone makes me horny

  • hehehehe lol :P nice:P

  • O_O WT?! XD I LOVE IT! FLAWLESS VICTORY! ^__^

*coughs and chuckles nervously* Sorry about the caps. Any way.. Both the flute and the Sousaphone were magnificent! ^^ Kudos to the players they should be congratulated for playing so well. ^^

  • the tuba souns like to.. weird/

  • how?

  • audio recorders don't pick up bass sounds too well..

  • Anyone know where i could get the music for this?

  • The original spoof is Duelling Tubas which you can find on iTunes. It's definitely possible to outthink this piece. It's also possible for the piece to outthink its players.

  • i want the sousaphone to win :) sousa beets little stick rofl but flute is still good dont get me wrong.

  • Ok. that coulda used some more practice. I coulda done better on my bass bone

  • Aaah the Sousaphone, a sound you can smell...

  • this is beautiful! lovely lovely sousaphone sound, and the flute sounds pretty good too (and I don't say that often)!

  • Lots of people seem to see a tuba in this clip when there isn't one...

  • you're right... That's in fact a sousaphone.. A MARCHING tuba.

  • Thats not a marching tuba(a.k.a. Contra), its only a sousaphone.

  • yes, but sousas are also used in marching band.

  • just correcting terms use. i know sousas are used in marching band, but a marching tuba is not a sousaphone. not saying he's wrong, just that he should call the instrument what it really is

  • off course tuba won... duh!!

  • There is no tuba.

  • verry nice i wish i had the music 4 that i would have a tuba battle with this guy in my class. there is nothing better than 2 tubas battleing!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hahaha... to be honest I can't stop laughing XD

Per se it's a funny song (which I certainly love) for guitar and banjo... and the fact of a flute and a tuba playing it is just... well... hillarious!

Very very cool video I must say! Haha. 5/5

  • flute won. lol

  • i think the tuba won!!!

  • I vote for the sousaphone.

  • That was good! You ve got range with that tuba !Great job

  • a real tuba would have nock her music off the stand

  • If you mean by blaring and sounding bad then yeah they would

  • amen, thats how us tuba players roll!!!!!!!

  • Had to do this for school about 2 months ago. hated doing it too.

  • le tuba ye vraiment pas bon y sonne mal

  • I wish I was there to see this in person. This is one of the sweetest pieces of entertainment I've seen in a while.

  • not bad, but its just not the same as the banjo and acoustic

  • that was cool, the sous had a bit of an ombushure problem though...

  • There should be more musical duels, triangles church organs, harps even the cannons used in good versions of 1812, though thats tecnicly a actual duel.

  • Nice you made me smile.... ;)

  • You guys ROCK! Thanks for the smile. Keep it up.

  • very talented sousaphonist

  • if your a very dedicated person tuba is the easiest instrument in a band/orchestra... in college its a different case though... BTW 1st chair tuba MHS band 6 years in a row FTW!

  • only-chair tubist at KHS 15 weeks in row for me lol

  • 2nd chair out of 2

  • i beat a junior at his chair twice and im a freshmen, now im first chair.

  • I now what you mean i exolie locked my doors. o_O LoL

  • Did this remind anyone else of that scene from Close Encounters?

  • Hahaha, spot on! :D

  • Hilarious!..refreshing to learn that "some" sousaphone players dont take themselves too seriously and could actually comunicate with Alien space ships!!

  • haha ive NVR seen a sousaphone player actually take him or herself seriously... i play the instrument and its just so fun to mess around with. how can u resist the urge to do some crazy dance moves in the middle of a preformance!?

  • What's the big deal? It was meant to be that way. It's just a fun piece to listen to a sousaphone try to be like a flute and the flute do likewise. Relax

  • You guys are idiots. The Sousaphone player is making himself sound bloated, obnoxious and gritty for the performance. He was juxtaposing the grace and elegance of the floutist

  • the flutist was pretty good, although being concert tubist myself the tuba was a bit blatty...although anyone who has never even played a sousaphone doesnt understand how tough it really is...its probably one of the hardest wind instruments to play correctly and well.

  • Well. As far as wind instruments go - I'm an experianced trombonist, baritone player, and tuba player. I suppose I was conditioned for such, but I would have to dissagree. The hardest wind instrument I've incountered is the Bassoon.

  • i was referring to the sousaphone as one of the more difficult ones...they're harder to keep in tune that soprano saxes, and require more air than concert tubas...also, as their tone quality is made for the marching field, rather than a concert setting, one can (hopefully) see why it might sound this way.

  • I liked this. Pretty good. I didn't like it when the tuba player started going blatty when he got lower. The flautist plays the banjo part pretty well.

  • Well this was a waste of my time -_-

  • That's why I searched this!! hahaha, I love Family Guy

  • sounded like crap (and i dont mean the video quality) but hey whatever floats your boat.

  • THIS IS METAL!!!!

    You got a Score?

  • This is so COOL!

  • tuba was kinda sharp, but other than that pretty good! =D

  • yeah! that tuba was tuned to perfection! get it right get it tight

  • Yes!!!!

  • fantastic flute playing!

  • the song had alot of character

  • thatwas weird ..but it sounded wierd

  • That's a flute not a picc

  • Yes. You are correct. And it is a sousaphone not a tuba. Good catch.

  • That was awesome.

  • I would like to see this with an alto sax and a bari or a soprano and a tenor

  • Ha!... That was a VERY interesting combination of instruments! I really enjoyed the flute playing. It was very good. The tuba was alright, although I am not a huge tuba fan. Kudos!!

  • ok first of all, she was playing a flute and he was playing a susophone
