Wow! That was Tonelli's goal. Fakes out one defender then threads the needle past two defenders to get a perfect pass to Nystrom. Tonelli also intentionally criss crossed with Nystrom before crossing the blue line to throw off the two Flyer defenders. Watch as the play developes, it was Tonelli's goal. I will never understand how flyers fans think that was offsides. But again, flyers fans tend to cry for a penalty if one of their guys trips on his own skate.
i was at game six. i remember the goal well. could not believe it wasn't called!!!! big huge break for sure. but i am an islander fan, so i was happy. sad now that this team is probably going because we cant get a new arena here.
@fdnyemt5330 Non-Isles fans are stupid about that goal. They think the offsides goal was Nystrom, where you can see it was clearly not. I know it was 31 years ago, but they need to stop talking out of their asses and actually watch the game again.
It was Sutter who was offsides when Gillies passed the puck back to Goring, who then passed it to Sutter who was wide open to the left of Peters.

@oOWrvOo12 The Islanders were offside on the play that resulted in their second goal of game 6, but the call was not made. Linesman Leon Stickle admitted after the game that he had blown the call.
CNNSI.com
It doesn't take away the fact that the Islanders were the best team in the league back in the '80s.
@FRSFreeState Are you kidding? They won 4 consecutive Stanley Cups, which no team has even won 3 consecutive since this dynasty. Not even the mighty Edmonton Oilers in the second half of the 80's.
@FRSFreeState I know what you're saying, but the Isles have been mismanaged ever since Mike Milbury was at the helm as GM.If you add up all the draft picks he traded away, there might have been at least 1 more Stanley Cup on top of those 4 consecutive during the early 80's.
Two weird things here: a.) Nystrom scored 21 goals during the season and 9 in the playoffs...that was his only backhander b.) he never got to hoist the Cup while he was on the ice with the celebration.
The interesting thing about this is that Nystrom never got a chance to actually hoist the cup when the team was out on the ice. When they repeated the Isles made sure he got the cup first.
Only an idiot couldn't pause it themselves at 0:37 and see this play was onsides. This isn't 1980 anymore, you don't have to rely on TV technicians to tell you you're wrong.
In regards to the offside goal: First off, it is simply "offside", there is no such term in hockey that calls it "offsides".....and secondly, it was the second Islander goal, not the tying goal, as the Flyers were the team that had to come from behind to tie this game up.....and of course, the winning goal is nowhere near to being offside. Not even close, no matter how slow you play the DVD.
AT 51 SEC, THAT IS THE SAME KID IN THE WHITE SHIRT that is on the ice at the end of the miracle clip named "The last 5 minutes of the miracle on ice" Look at this, the same year, the same thing.... That kid is LUCKY
I was watching downstairs, my mom was upstairs I was screaming when it happened also because I jumped so high that I bashed my hand on the ceiling. I will never forget this moment- one of the happiest moments in my life.
The years are passing .. in 3 years it will 30 years since their last cup.. And I hope 30 more after that. Thanks you 1984 Oilers for stopping the drive for 5 and later on ending the 1940 shit with Mess and some of your guys helping. What ever it took to end the 1940 crap was ok by me.. even if MSG signed the whole Oiler team in 1993/94, The best part is we beat the shit out of the Icelanders in the 1st round 4 straight.
put a team on the ice. Not that I don't want a new arena but that does not mean guarante a winning team. If you look at the history of this team, when the put a competitive team on the ice the fill the place.
I remember watching this game at home. Most of my friends (Rangers fans) were out and about on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Winning the cup the very first time (for the Islanders) was ecstatic. What's sweeter was beating the hated Flyers!
The years are passing .. in 3 years it will 30 years since their last cup.. And I hope 30 more after that. Thanks you 1984 Oilers for stopping the drive for 5 and later on ending the 1940 shit with Mess and some of your guys helping. @FrsBigeasy Pretty Good is not an justifiable description. This team still holds the record for most consecutive playoff series wins with 19. Doubtful that any team will ever approach that again.
The Isles dynasty was a great team, perfect mix of toughness, defense, and a potent offense. They had the defense of modern-day New Jersey teams, and the offense of modern-day Pens. And they had one of the best money goalies ever. Smith wasn't a Brodeur, but when the chips were down, he played like him.
I'm a Rangers fan but I'm not going to let the rivalry blind me to reality. The Islanders were the team of the 80's in hockey. Oilers had more talent but the Isles won four in row & 19 playoff series in a row. There's a good chance that if Steve Smith doesn't put one in his own net to help Calgary beat Edmonton in the 86 quarters that Edmonton wins 5 in a row, instead of 4 out of 5, but they didn't, so the Isles were the team of the 80's. Their OT record in the playoffs was mind-boggling.
1 thing for sure - you will never again see the likes of what the Canadiens, Islanders, & Oilers had in the '70s, & '80s. These teams were primarily assembled by way of the draft, & grew together into champions. These teams had much more unique identities than the teams of today, which lent itself to there being MUCH stronger rivalries.
Are you kidding?? They would have wiped the ice with the Habs in any of their cup years. 19 straight playoff series victories - including a SWEEP of the Oilers in '83. That doesn't rate?? Stupid ass.
You fucken moron. I have it on DVD and have watched it in slo mo. Don't tell me it's not off-sides when it clearly is. I know more about the game than you ever will, you fucken faggot.Y
Who the fuck are you calling dipshit, faggot? Being an Islanders' fan is synonymous for a dipshit. Don't worry, you guys are pretty good.....if you were in the AHL. Now piss off, piss ant.
@SIoyvenheaven1 You're the one commenting on our video dumbshit. Apparently 19 playoff series wins in a row isn't good enough of you. Well, if your a Flyers or Rangers fan, I couldn't blame your anger. Flyers history is just garbage and the Rangers have 4 cups since the stone age.
Lol, why the fuck would I be jealous of the Islanders and their 13 fans? Come back to me when the Islanders actually decide to compete in the NHL, which basically means I shouldn't hear from you again. Must be fun paying Yashin not to play and DiPietro a trillion dollars while being injured. Your team is a joke, just like you.
@SIoyvenheaven1 This is coming from a youtube troll hating on a team for being successful...
I'm the joke? I still have no clue what team fan are you...but to think your outrageous comments are right is just plain stupid. DiPi might be a bad deal, but hes not sucking up that much cap space, neither is Yashin. And don't question our fan base buddy, its not as small as you think. How are we not competing at an "NHL" level when we didn't even get that close to last last year?
@SIoyvenheaven1 If you thought that really was offsides, you need to get your eyes checked. Now stop questioning my intelligence, because I can clearly see right through yours.
@SIoyvenheaven1 OHHH, just found out that you're a homer Flyers fan, makes a lot of sense now. The absolute most disrespectful fans in the NHL.
Don't be jealous that your teams history is absolute GARBAGE, and you and your pathetic fans boo'd the cup when it was picked up and shoved up high by the Hawks...last team to do this was the 68' Leafs...hello bad luck.
My, my. Jealous are we? Hahahah. I bet it pisses you off beyond belief that the Flyers have the best fan base in the entire NHL.
Our history is absolute garbage you say? Again, you're just sour that we pushed you guys around since day one (no big deal though, we push EVERYBODY around). Ha!!
@SIoyvenheaven1 Nah, 2 cups since 67', gigantic choke artists, ringing a bell?
I can't tell what type of team the Flyers are now-a-days anyways though, one second they're malling someone and the next second their diving and crying on the ice.
You might be the only person on the face of the planet that actually gives a shit about the Islanders. Serious, when was the last time they were relevant? Don't worry, your team MIGHT make the playoffs in the next decade or so.
@SIoyvenheaven1 Next decade now? I'm pretty damn sure they'll make the playoffs in three years hands down, the improvement is relevant. If we didn't have so much debt trouble our team would be in a better situation. Philly isn't even arguably the best team in the East anyways, so what makes you so high and might? Flyers won't repeat this any time soon...hahaha, it was a good run though.
@SIoyvenheaven1 And as you noticed I ignored your first comment, because you can't judge a team by its fanbase, if you're going to lengths like that, you're just pulling straws. You should be concerned for the Panthers, not us buddy.
I'm not concerned about you or the Islanders, because nobody gives a shit about the Islanders, not even New York. You might as well root for Bridgeport.
@SIoyvenheaven1 Thats a joke...but then again, what would a Philly fan know? We do have a good amount of fans, its just sad that people like you are crumpled up in a tiny ball avoiding the world around you, and the truth.
Over 100,000 fan signatures for the Lighthouse project, no worries though, we obviously have no fans...the funny part is, lots of fans have yet to sign it yet.
@SIoyvenheaven1 He truly is a great owner, too bad the county he works in is a piece of shit run by Kate Murray, a stinky, fat and retarded bitch. Now you're just pulling straws again, MSG is older then the coliseum aside from renavations, correct? Honestly man, I hate to see the thing go, but its now necessary, any seat in the coliseum is a good seat. Its funny how you talk about our coliseum, when the last time we played the Flyers a group of fans complimented the view to ice level + gr8 it is
@SIoyvenheaven That actually made me chuckle a bit, maybe true, but whatever, the Islanders are going to get a new arena before you know it...so enjoy what you have today, because it simply won't be there tomorrow (Kind of like Hartnell's hair.)
@sidDkid87 UHHHH!wtf are you talking about leon stickel was quoted as saying he blew the call years later...........the islanders won the series and were the better team but just stick to the facts! you hate the flyers , however those teams were more alike than you think, much like crosby and ball sac sucker , very much alike just one has bigger teeth!
@Omar1297 FYI the play that is referred to is not the game winner...........please review the goals of the game, the blown call was as clear as day like i said once before................................"leon stickel said himself he blew the call" its irrelevent now as a flyers fan, the islanders dynasty was best team since 1980! Im diehard flyers fan and not a poser, love the flyers 87 team, Brindamour underrated leader, That 80's islander teams were far better collectively than anyone period!
Why am I almost solely talking about defence? Because its defence that wins 90% of the time. The Isles proved that against the Oilers in 83, the Habs proved that in 71 vs. Boston, and the Habs vs. Flyers in 76. The 76 Flyers were no. 1 in offence. Barber-Clarke-Leach may have been the best line of the 70s. They had a formidable year. Leach 61 goals, and he had 19 in the playoffs, still a record he shares with Kurri. And Barber 50 goals, and Clarkie the best passer in the 70s, after Bobby Orr.
its hard to tell...when he receives the puck he isn't exactly in front of all the defenders...its a weird formation... defensively the flyers were sleeping, especially #6...but I see what you mean...its hard to call if Nystrom was off sides or not..
I guess you cant wait until then, so you can celebrate the most illegtimate Stanley Cup victory in hockey. Leon Stickle=1980 playoff MVP. Its that simple bonehead. Read between the lines and youll see why the Isles won. The Flyers should have and would have won had that Sutter goal been disallowed. Only a fool ignores this and only an American does anyway. Fuck you.
I'm not even an Isles fan, just thought I'd mention it. And it wasn't that illegitimate either, since this would be the start of the Islanders' dynasty. Spare me your useless name-calling & F-bombs, would you please?? Most of you Habs fan are an angry, short-fused bunch these days. Oh, & I guess you also have some resentment towards Americans like all Canadians do I guess. Well, I'm Canadian myself. So 'F' THAT. And chew on that for a few. Have a nice day:-p
Lucky goal by Sutter. Ok you make your own luck then. Whatever. Cant say the Islanders opponents in the 81 and 82 playoffs were anything to brag about. Its all about opposition. When you dont beat the best, people will always question if you are the best. Canadiens 1975-79: undisputed king of hockey dynasties.
Agree that the 76-79 Canadiens are the greatest dynasty ever. However, the 77 to 79 habs didn't have much competition, other than the rising Isles. A talent-shy Boston team nearly upset the Habs in 79 and the habs were lucky that the Isles in 79 didn't reach the finals. Its too bad that the 2 best teams in hockey never met in the 1979 finals in a matchup between 2 dynasties.
An Isles team weaker than the 1979-83 teams pushed the great 1977 habs to 6 games in a tough semi-final series.
How can you say that? The Canadiens opposition in the 70s was tremendous. All the teams they beat in the finals, except the Rangers in 79, were great, if not exceptionally loaded. The 76 Flyers were the defending champs, and the Habs beat them in 4. The Habs then beat Cherrys Bruins in 4, outscoring them 16-6. And that was no crappy Bruin team either. A better Bruin team in 78 allowed them to even the series at 2-all but the Habs won 4-1 and 4-1 in gms 5 and 6 to win it.
The late 70 bruins were solid, but can't call them great teams, and not as good as the bruins from early 70s. And pretty much the same bruins team (without grapes) were knocked out in 5 games in 1980 by the Isles.
However, you are right that the 77-80 bruins are better than the 81 north stars and 82 canucks.
Agree that the 76 flyers were a formidable opponent...EXCEPT their lousy goaltending failed them in the finals (a shot from the red line beat wayne stephenson sunk the flyers in game 3).
Of course I know the 77-80 Bruins were better than the 81 North Stars and 82 Cancuks. Thats like comparing BMW's and Hondas. The 76 Flyers were superb. Stephenson "played" for Parent who was injured most of the year. He let in a bad goal in gm 3 but which goalie doesnt? I seen clips of even Billy Smith look terrible. Fuhr, Roy, Brodeur and Hasek they all look terrible when they let in a soft one. Stephenson's 75-76 numbers were superb. He overachieved yes. But he didnt have a choice either.
Honestly, the Isles would have had no chance against the Habs had they both met in the 79 finals. The Isles were no. 1 in PP, no. 1 overall rankings, no. 1 offence and they took a lot of penalties. The Hans were no. 1 in PK, defence, goaltending tandem, coach, discipline and experience. They were no. 2 in overall standings and PP. When you have plenty of no. 1's you win, it doesnt matter if the series would have started in L.I. The Habs would have won the series in 6, winning all 3 Montreal gms.
Analysis, you need analysis. The 1977 Isles team was as good as any 80s Isles team (on paper at least). The Isles were no. 2 in defence in 76-77. They gave up 193 goals, 73 goals (almost a goal/per/game) fewer than the oppos. The 80, 81, 82, 83 Isles were ranked (in this order) defensively: no.4, no.4, no.2 and no.1 The 75-76 Isles (the Habs beat em in 5) were also no. 2 in defence. The Potvin brothers were as good as any defensive pair the Habs had, but they didnt have a better no. 3 defenseman
The 1975 to 1977 isles were sorely lacking in offense. That was evident in their series vs montreal. After that time, they got Bossy, Tonelli and Goring. Their defence got weaker by the 80s no question (Denis Potvin was on the decline by then). However, they had to address their lack of offense to have any chance of winning the big one.
The 75 to 77 Isles were not the best offensive team, agreed. But still, they had a good team and their goaltending tandem of Resch/Smith was second best behind Dryden/Larocque. They had a chance to push the series to 7 games in the 1977 playoffs but they failed. Gotta give that team some credit. They did have some fair scorers but none as great as Bossy, agreed. Two different teams, two different eras you could say (70's and 80's). I do think the Isles had a very respectable team in the 70s.
@HisMajestyBobbyOrr You could say those years were the Isles training ground or "learning how to lose",as its more referred to as today in the NHL before winning the Stanley Cup.
Are you on crack??? The offense of the 80's teams was WAY deeper than that of 1977. Their defensive rankings slipped slightly simply because the team didn't have to rely on defense as much as they did in 1977. In their prime years the Islanders would defeat their opponents in whatever style of hockey they played, be it speed, or a grinding game. Piss poor analysis...
Speaking of Canadiens. This team shut down Gretzky to win its' fourth Stanley Cup and before you tell me Gretzky won the next year, the reason why I mentioned the 4th year is because Gretzky never won four in a row himself.
Great video. "THE SHOT HEARD 'ROUND THE ISLAND". The start of a true dynasty, the first of 4 consecutive years of Stanley Cup Championships. Just got my retro-colored jersey signed by Bob Nystrom himself and spoke briefly with him at the New York Islanders' 2009 N.H.L. Draft Party.
The Islander next 3 Cups were Gimmes and the Dynasty can be questioned if it wer not for the teams they played this first cup run. The beat the Bruins, Sabres, and the best team in the league that year the Flyers so I will say the Islanders were a true DYNASTY! Even though I hate their "F"ing Guts!
hoosierlooker: you have no sense of humour. i tell you what, when i fuck your dumb sister thats humour. cuz shes got the smallest tightest most ridiculous cunt i ever seen. oh and dont forget asshole, shes american just like your dumbfuck face midget.
Gee kids, I think somebody peed in CanadiensULTRAPOWER Lucky Charms this morning. Oh his account is closed. Imagine that. Dude, two words. Anger Management and have a nice day.
LOL nothing cheap. Did you miss the Duane Sutter offside goal? I suppose not because you forgot your glasses at the local McDonalds. And oh yeah, Denis Potvin scored an OT power play goal earlier in the series that saved the Isles. Nothing cheap eh? I tell you what fuckhead, the Islanders were the cheapest dynasty in hockey. They faced anemic opposition time and again (yeah 1981 and 1982 playoffs). You arent the best when you dont beat the best. Its that simple.
That Isles team was so good at so many things. But the 56-60 & 76-79 Habs and the 80's Oilers are on the same level at least. I have been a Flyers fan since '70 and cringe any time I hear Leon Stickle's name,, but as a hockey fan, the 80-84 Islanders are my favorite dynasty ever,, hands down &.Brian Trottier was the best/fave all-around player ever.
This guy is insane and got himself kicked off You Tube. The fact that he wasn't even alive when the Islanders made their mark as the greatest team in history, plus the economy in Edmonton is among the worst in Canada/northern hemisphere and the Oilers never won more than two in a row really hurts him. He's clearly insane and is now kicked off of You Tube.Even Messier and Anderson admitted the Oilers weren't as good as the Islanders because they couldn't win more than two in a row.NYI then #1

No loud music, No Ice Girls,
Just a great hockey team,
You want fans in the seats Mr. Wang
put a team on the ice.

Everybody's got it all wrong. The offside goal was the second Islanders goal by Duane Sutter, NOT the Cup winner.

If it wasn't for the emergence of the Oilers and the Gretzky train they would have won 5 straight.

@jvforever72 Yea man. The Oilers how could I forget them. A grate 80's team. I got to see them play up in Candia. They lost to Quebec.
Jerry2665 1 year ago 2

These teams had much more unique identities than the teams of today, which lent itself to there being MUCH stronger rivalries.
sail027li 2 years ago
Are you kidding?? They would have wiped the ice with the Habs in any of their cup years. 19 straight playoff series victories - including a SWEEP of the Oilers in '83. That doesn't rate?? Stupid ass.

Lol, why the fuck would I be jealous of the Islanders and their 13 fans? Come back to me when the Islanders actually decide to compete in the NHL, which basically means I shouldn't hear from you again. You might be the only person on the face of the planet that actually gives a shit about the Islanders. Serious, when was the last time they were relevant? Don't worry, your team MIGHT make the playoffs in the next decade or so.
SIoyvenheaven1 1 year ago
@SIoyvenheaven1 Next decade now? I'm pretty damn sure they'll make the playoffs in three years hands down, the improvement is relevant. If we didn't have so much debt trouble our team would be in a better situation. Philly isn't even arguably the best team in the East anyways, so what makes you so high and might? Flyers won't repeat this any time soon...hahaha, it was a good run though.
IslandersFan25 1 year ago
@SIoyvenheaven1 And as you noticed I ignored your first comment, because you can't judge a team by its fanbase, if you're going to lengths like that, you're just pulling straws. You should be concerned for the Panthers, not us buddy.

I'm not concerned about you or the Islanders, because nobody gives a shit about the Islanders, not even New York. You might as well root for Bridgeport.
SIoyvenheaven1 1 year ago
@SIoyvenheaven1 Thats a joke...but then again, what would a Philly fan know? We do have a good amount of fans, its just sad that people like you are crumpled up in a tiny ball avoiding the world around you, and the truth.
Over 100,000 fan signatures for the Lighthouse project, no worries though, we obviously have no fans...the funny part is, lots of fans have yet to sign it yet.
IslandersFan25 1 year ago
100,000 signatures? How many of those did Mr. Wang forge?? Haha! When is that dump the Nassau Coliseum gonna collapse?
SIoyvenheaven1 1 year ago
@SIoyvenheaven1 He truly is a great owner, too bad the county he works in is a piece of shit run by Kate Murray, a stinky, fat and retarded bitch. Now you're just pulling straws again, MSG is older then the coliseum aside from renavations, correct? Honestly man, I hate to see the thing go, but its now necessary, any seat in the coliseum is a good seat. Its funny how you talk about our coliseum, when the last time we played the Flyers a group of fans complimented the view to ice level + gr8 it is

ldhorricks 2 years ago
Why am I almost solely talking about defence? Because its defence that wins 90% of the time. The Isles proved that against the Oilers in 83, the Habs proved that in 71 vs. Boston, and the Habs vs. Flyers in 76. The 76 Flyers were no. 1 in offence. Barber-Clarke-Leach may have been the best line of the 70s. They had a formidable year. Leach 61 goals, and he had 19 in the playoffs, still a record he shares with Kurri. And Barber 50 goals, and Clarkie the best passer in the 70s, after Bobby Orr.

Fuck you.
CanadiensNITROPOWER 2 years ago
I'm not even an Isles fan, just thought I'd mention it. And it wasn't that illegitimate either, since this would be the start of the Islanders' dynasty. Spare me your useless name-calling & F-bombs, would you please?? Most of you Habs fan are an angry, short-fused bunch these days. Oh, & I guess you also have some resentment towards Americans like all Canadians do I guess. Well, I'm Canadian myself. So 'F' THAT. And chew on that for a few. Have a nice day:-p
ckendall67 2 years ago
Lucky goal by Sutter. Ok you make your own luck then. Whatever. Cant say the Islanders opponents in the 81 and 82 playoffs were anything to brag about. Its all about opposition. When you dont beat the best, people will always question if you are the best. Canadiens 1975-79: undisputed king of hockey dynasties.
HisMajestyBobbyOrr 2 years ago
Agree that the 76-79 Canadiens are the greatest dynasty ever. However, the 77 to 79 habs didn't have much competition, other than the rising Isles. A talent-shy Boston team nearly upset the Habs in 79 and the habs were lucky that the Isles in 79 didn't reach the finals. Its too bad that the 2 best teams in hockey never met in the 1979 finals in a matchup between 2 dynasties.
An Isles team weaker than the 1979-83 teams pushed the great 1977 habs to 6 games in a tough semi-final series.
lakeerie90s 2 years ago
How can you say that? The Canadiens opposition in the 70s was tremendous. All the teams they beat in the finals, except the Rangers in 79, were great, if not exceptionally loaded. The 76 Flyers were the defending champs, and the Habs beat them in 4. The Habs then beat Cherrys Bruins in 4, outscoring them 16-6. And that was no crappy Bruin team either. A better Bruin team in 78 allowed them to even the series at 2-all but the Habs won 4-1 and 4-1 in gms 5 and 6 to win it.
HisMajestyBobbyOrr 2 years ago
The late 70 bruins were solid, but can't call them great teams, and not as good as the bruins from early 70s. And pretty much the same bruins team (without grapes) were knocked out in 5 games in 1980 by the Isles.
However, you are right that the 77-80 bruins are better than the 81 north stars and 82 canucks.
Agree that the 76 flyers were a formidable opponent...EXCEPT their lousy goaltending failed them in the finals (a shot from the red line beat wayne stephenson sunk the flyers in game 3).
lakeerie90s 2 years ago
HisMajestyBobbyOrr 2 years ago
@lakeerie90s Of course, who will ever know what might have been if Bernie Parent had not gotten untimely injured that year?
landrykkb 1 year ago
Honestly, the Isles would have had no chance against the Habs had they both met in the 79 finals. The Isles were no. 1 in PP, no. 1 overall rankings, no. 1 offence and they took a lot of penalties. The Hans were no. 1 in PK, defence, goaltending tandem, coach, discipline and experience. They were no. 2 in overall standings and PP. When you have plenty of no. 1's you win, it doesnt matter if the series would have started in L.I. The Habs would have won the series in 6, winning all 3 Montreal gms.
HisMajestyBobbyOrr 2 years ago
HisMajestyBobbyOrr 2 years ago
The 1975 to 1977 isles were sorely lacking in offense. That was evident in their series vs montreal. After that time, they got Bossy, Tonelli and Goring. Their defence got weaker by the 80s no question (Denis Potvin was on the decline by then). However, they had to address their lack of offense to have any chance of winning the big one.
lakeerie90s 2 years ago
The 75 to 77 Isles were not the best offensive team, agreed. But still, they had a good team and their goaltending tandem of Resch/Smith was second best behind Dryden/Larocque. They had a chance to push the series to 7 games in the 1977 playoffs but they failed. Gotta give that team some credit. They did have some fair scorers but none as great as Bossy, agreed. Two different teams, two different eras you could say (70's and 80's). I do think the Isles had a very respectable team in the 70s.
HisMajestyBobbyOrr 2 years ago
@HisMajestyBobbyOrr You could say those years were the Isles training ground or "learning how to lose",as its more referred to as today in the NHL before winning the Stanley Cup.
landrykkb 1 year ago
Are you on crack??? The offense of the 80's teams was WAY deeper than that of 1977. Their defensive rankings slipped slightly simply because the team didn't have to rely on defense as much as they did in 1977. In their prime years the Islanders would defeat their opponents in whatever style of hockey they played, be it speed, or a grinding game. Piss poor analysis...
sail027li 2 years ago
Speaking of Canadiens. This team shut down Gretzky to win its' fourth Stanley Cup and before you tell me Gretzky won the next year, the reason why I mentioned the 4th year is because Gretzky never won four in a row himself.
