Cesium is the most reactive of non-radioactive metals. (Francium is very radioactive. There is about 30 grams of francium in Earth's crust one time. Francium has never been synthesized in amounts that can be seen by human)
Um, that is not Sodium. Sodium explodes upon contact with the air because it is so reactive. It is an alkali metal, so it is not at all electronegative. Therefore, it would ionically bond with the gasses in the air in an explosive reaction. If this experiment was done in a vacuum, I would be more convinced. Besides, Na + CL --> explosive reaction to NaCl. Nice try, but sorry.
willow is right. It'd react a bit with moisture in air over time which is why it's stored in oil. But bringing it out for a few minutes won't do crap. It's sodium, man. You think that wasn't an explosive reaction? Study up on your chem.
@willowmp lol idiot first of sodium is one of most reactive elements second of it was firs in air (and nothing happend but i would if it stayed longer) and it was in Cl2 (which isnt air)
omg shutup wit dha comments nd callin this perdon an idiot cuz most of yuee guys wont even dare 2 do it so stfu

You didnt make NaCl, thats table salt.

wtf is your point? He can't make NaCl because its table salt? wtf?

where do you get your sodium?

woohoo yeah great we're proud of you
you just made fucking salt dude
why the hell would you want that, lett alone do it????

He didn't want the iodine-laced shit from the stores. And no stores sell kosher salt around where he is ;)

Good job you made common salt (NaCl) try this Na+H2O
fernank017 3 years ago
Na + Cl is actually the bigger reaction. Water just makes it look impressive.
mryellow123 3 years ago
Srry. Fix your video desc. It's not sodium with chlorine, it's sodium [sharing an ionic bond] with chlorine.

sodium is not that reactive, for god sakes if you take it out and stick it in the air it won't just explode.
If sodium explodes on contact with air then what does white phosphorus do on contact with air? Nuclear explosion size? lmao

@willowmp in a universe with diffrent constants it might do that

@willowmp Na (s) + Cl2 (g) --> NaCl is a very exotermic reaction!
The mixture of sodium and chlorine to yield table salt is a reaction that produces 411 kJ of energy for each mole of salt that is produced.
You should study more.

p.s. sodium is more reactive than phosphorus...

Have you even seen sodium in person? Sodium RUSTS in the presence of air and tarnishes a bit. It reacts violently with water.

Which is the most reactive metal?
Which is the most reactive non-metal?
