i'm from n.z., been to manila and in some ways it's the shithole of the world, BUT,
nicer more friendly people i have yet to meet, i visited smokey mountain ( now gone ) with a christian group,i have never seen such poverty yet the children seemed happy
and smiled continuosly,it made me very sad to see people live in such conditions.
there is a lot going on all the time in manila,a very exciting place, the gap between rich and poor is very obvious, an open mind is key to a good time there.

I thought I had seen bad traffic living and travelling around europe, but my god, the traffic in Manila was truly shocking, I had to wait 2 hours for a taxi from Makati to Ortigas, so many drivers refused to drive that route. but I still had a great time in Manila, its a good place to visit for a few days.
be proud filipinos..even some of us are now living outside the philippines we still have to remind ourselves that we are from the philippines,,,maganda bansa natin,,we have a beautiful country,,beautifufl people inside and out,,matatalino tyo,,lahat alam natin..madaling matuto ng kahit anong bagay,,pinoys we should be proud!!thanks for the video kaibigan..

Advice to anybody visiting Manila, 1 don't listen to negative reports 2 respect local customs and use manners the fillipinos are generally strict catholics 3 have a local with you to show you around.4 if you follow the the first 3 you will have a great time and experience the hospitality of the fillipinos, they are warm and friendly people.
there's just too much to love about manila... its one of a kind.. miss all the malls, good food, awesome nightlife, relatives and cool friends!!! it's been a while since i've been there and soo excited to come back.. manila i'm coming home sooonnnn... see ya!

Go and visit these places if you really haven't been much in Manila: 1. Roxas Blvd (the open sea) 2. CCP complex (cultural arts) 3. Luneta park, paco park (if you're rich, go check-in in of the 5 star hotels near by U.N ave) 4. Quiapo (you'll miss everything about these place) 5. Recto (all the porn you want? lol) 6. Raon (cheap musical instruments) 7. Intramuros (spanish heritage) 8. Binondo (china town) 9. Divisoria (oh man, the most awesome market in the whole world!) PLEASE ADD!!
Manila is a very charming place. With all the mixture of the genuine hospitality of filipinos, warmth, joy, noise, pollution, crime, sex and late night enjoyment. It will surely fascinate you to just squander yourself and get lost in the sights and sounds of China Town (Binondo), busy streets and (ehem) smuggled goods (UKAY) in quiapo. Spanish history in Intramuros. The rich, the poor. The good and the bad...all mixed in one pot. THAT'S MANILA!
but i would suggest to have a low profile.. dont wear flashy clothes, jewelry, keep youre cellphone hidden (otherwise someone might snatch it..) otherwise youll be alright.. you will find everyone is friendly and youll see smiles everywhere..its an adventure i guess..
Im sorry to say, that Manila is not part of the civilized world. There are more bad things to say about the city than good. Its poluted, crime is high, sexindustry, fixers everywhere, really dirty. And especially if you are foreigner, everyone gets dollarsigns in their eyes. Offcourse there are also good things, even though I can't remember any right now. I hope that one day the young people of the Philippines will kick out all the corrupt politician out of all the cityhalls and the government.
What I miss about Manila is the pretty girls, cost of living, true people and genuine service. I don't miss the fucking local city cops, pollution and crime.
you should listen to your uncle, he knows you best. Or, you can ask him to go with you here in Manila so he can feel assured that you will be fine. Manila or any other place in the world as long as its not a familiar place is a possibility of trouble.. we just need to be careful the best way YOU can. Good luck to you!

I had a great time recently in Manila, stayed in ortigas area, had a good look around, could see the rich and poor parts of it, but was very welcome everywhere as a visitor, and loved the HALO HALO!

i went to manila last week, it was first time for me.
i felt there is heaven and hell.
some good some extreme bad^^
very the poor on the street but really good shopping mall.
i rode jeepney and try cycle that i dont know how to say , it's really impressed.

Advice to anybody visiting Manila, 1 don't listen to negative reports 2 respect local customs and use manners the fillipinos are generally strict catholics 3 have a local with you to show you around.4 if you follow the the first 3 you will have a great time and experience the hospitality of the fillipinos, they are warm and friendly people.

Manila is a very charming place. With all the mixture of the genuine hospitality of filipinos, warmth, joy, noise, pollution, crime, sex and late night enjoyment. It will surely fascinate you to just squander yourself and get lost in the sights and sounds of China Town (Binondo), busy streets and (ehem) smuggled goods (UKAY) in quiapo. Spanish history in Intramuros. The rich, the poor. The good and the bad...all mixed in one pot. THAT'S MANILA!

but i would suggest to have a low profile.. dont wear flashy clothes, jewelry, keep youre cellphone hidden (otherwise someone might snatch it..) otherwise youll be alright.. you will find everyone is friendly and youll see smiles everywhere..its an adventure i guess..

Im sorry to say, that Manila is not part of the civilized world. There are more bad things to say about the city than good. Its poluted, crime is high, sexindustry, fixers everywhere, really dirty. And especially if you are foreigner, everyone gets dollarsigns in their eyes. Offcourse there are also good things, even though I can't remember any right now. I hope that one day the young people of the Philippines will kick out all the corrupt politician out of all the cityhalls and the government.

you should listen to your uncle, he knows you best. Or, you can ask him to go with you here in Manila so he can feel assured that you will be fine. another thing bro, if youll visit manila, just try to appreciate the people and the culture. if you wanna go to some amazing places then the provinces is a much better place. i suggest cebu, palawan, boracay. enjoy!

I had a great time recently in Manila, stayed in ortigas area, had a good look around, could see the rich and poor parts of it, but was very welcome everywhere as a visitor, and loved the HALO HALO!

I have not been home since 2001, thank you for posting this. I truely love the part about quiapo, I remember as 9 year girl walking under the bridge and shopping there at the same time with my mom. Manila ....miss it so much.

dude can you give me an idea where can i possibly look for a transient stay in manila.. something that is cheaper but a still a safe place.. i plan to stay 2 or 3 days.. Its my first and I really dont know where can I possibly stay, I know hotels are everywhere but I find them expensive.. Im looking for some sort of a transient boarding house..
