If she broke the c1 she needs more than a halo. She needs to be evaluated by a U,C,S, only practitioner on upcspine to see how she really is.

hi,i saw your video & its really great that you're away from that.....congrats...!!!...im from a little country of south america,and i'll be thankfull with some help please,because in my country we dont have good doctors like USA, i'm afraid that they fit the halo in the wrong way, i just want to know if you bleed when they fit the halo in you head and if you suffer a lot of pain the 2 first weeks....please answer this.... thanks...!!! =)

Where in S. America? One of my best friends traveled all summer down there...visited a ton of different places. I was asleep when the put the halo on, but I assume there was some bleeding just because they do have to cut your forehead open! And the first two weeks were definitely the most uncomfortable. Make sure the vest is fitted low on your shoulders to bear a little bit of the weight and don't be scared to loosen the straps if you need to - if it helps you breath!

hey ive got my halo on now ive had it on for only 2 n a half weeks now it gets me down :( how long did you have yours and do you have scars like dents in the forhead where the pins were ? thanks very much hope u made a full recovery ?

I had mine on for 3 months exactly. No one notices them unless I point it out, or if they know what I halo is and that I had one! I made a pretty full recovery as it relates to my neck, but I had a foot injury as well due to my car accident that has been more trouble than the neck! I'm getting my halo removed tomorrow...I am terrified! How did your pin sites heal up? Did the pin removal hurt that much? My hair is wrapped around one of the pins so i have a feeling its going to be bad!

You handled your removal better than I did, wow. My back left one was infected so a month before I got my halo off they had to move the "pin" so they said ahead of time it would be more tender but i wish they would've numbed it some. My accident was in July, 07 and I still feel pain. My C2 didn't heal as well as they wanted but I wasn't a sugery canidate so i had to do the halo and now my C2 is fused to C1 and C3 and is shifted down and over Im grateful but sad that i can't do samethings i did.

Thanks abrakadeborah - that was very thoughtful. I am 2 years our from the accident, approaching 2 years since the halo removal. almost back to normal, but had some other injuries from my car accident that I am still working on (i.e. my left foot!). I've had 3 spine surgeries...L5-S1 Fusions with hardware and I literally Cried for you when you started crying. I didn't have a broken neck like you, but I could feel for you and the pain you've suffered. You're in my prayers. God Bless. Stay strong~ You were a very brave girl.

I broke my c2 November 22 2010. I got my halo off last week and it hurt a lil but I'm happy to have it off. I broke it by doing a double front flip and landing on my headin a foam pit

i broke my c1-c5 10 months ago... doctors said i'd never run, bike, travel, perform music,work or be the same again. I made a 95% recovery. can't move my neck half as much as i use to BUT i am the same person doing the same things! to those going through this hell... it is hell but its temporary... oh! as fair as scar treatment. bio-oil 3 times a day for a few months will do wonders. i still have small scars but its fine. it looks bad at first but gets better!

I broke my neck in 97 playing rugby. c6 c7 had to be fused together with bone and wire.

I remember the moment that they removed the halo and how weak my neck felt, I didn't want to move my neck either. I was in hospital for about a year and had to learn to walk again.

I bet that you were very nervous the first time you got into a car. Years after the inccident now and I still cringe when i watch a scrum go down.

Oh my... C1... I broke my C2 on may 8th, 3 months in the halo. And seriously, how did you keep that thing soo clean! I still have mine, Id rather not post it, it is very dirty ;-). Hope your recovery has come along well and your doing well now!

i dove in 8 feet of water at a local beach and chipped my c5 and fractured my c6 and c7, just wondering if it hurts the get it taken off more then getting it on?

i ran and dove into lake michigan and broke my neck worse than christopher reeves, and went to the hospital 4 days later about july 14 they put me in that same one,they said surgery is the only option but is very risky for a fusion. i consider us not only lucky but strong :)

i definately know your pain..i had a car accident feb 10 2009 in which i flipped 4 times and rolled 4 more into the woods after fallin asleep on the interstate. i shattered c1, c2, and c3. my skull was separated from my spine on the xrays. my halo came off a month early cus it backed itself out, but it definately felt so much better once it was off. haha but i still have the scars from the pins all around.

I wore a halo from November 22 1985 until April 1 1986 after fracuring c2 and c3 in a car accident. I was in tong traction for 2 days and got the halo put on.

The scars were the worst part after I got the halo off! After 23 1/2 years... they are almost all gone!

I sure hope you are doing well!
