I was told by my school teachers in 1956 that world population growth was unsustainable, that fossil fuels would soon be depleted and that it was a MUST to search for new technologies and alternative energy resourses. That was FIFTY TWO YEARS AGO!!

Those are just vague ideas. "eg. we all work locally and don't commute and waste energy." You forgot the "...after you". Yes, people like you are ready to suggest these "good ideas" yet when it comes to implementing them... "but compared to many I don't over-indulge". Who are the many? Bill Gates, people like that. When cuba suffered an oil crisis it managed to re-adjust by localising production and labour - eg all gardens were used as plots. We should be starting to move in this direction now.
