There are no wrong ways to live, but there are dysfunctional ways to live. Just like there are no right ways to live, but there are functional ways to live.
Nice video Adam. Super organized and well thought out explanations of Quinn's concepts. You have taken a massive topic and explained it so that anyone will understand, yet it doesn't sound watered down. Bravo.
It would be conquer then assimilate right? Interesting video. This topic is an especially interesting one to look at today since there is no more land to be found or conquered. And also because of the growing technological advancements in communication giving people all over the world a better global perspective.
GREAT video, this needed to be stated. My realization of this came how I'm living by a set of parameters, as if I was born into a mold. But now I realize I can form the mold however I want and not just live the one way were taught to. Work, consume, sleep, repeat. We should see the freedom in our life to do w/e we want. Also, I think it is innate to compete and expand, so I think its a naturally response to out compete one another to the point where we hurt each other.
I would definatly say that it's innate to compete and expand within the dominate culture (kind of why it's called that :)). Our culture's food surplus and energy source makes it very easy to compete and expand like we have. But the oil is running out and we won't be able to live like this forever. So diversification is paramount. Thanks for commenting!
I think the inhumane way in which civilization expands can not be explained _only_ by a food surplus. A food surplus by itself does imo in principal explain expansion, but not the inhumane way in which civilization goes about it. It seems to me there are psychological factors involved.
I'm sorry, but your delivery is very boring, and also the kid in the background sooooooo takes away from your message. (And I'm a mom, but it's still very annoying.)On the plus side, that's a nice paint color on your wall.
Thanks for making this Adam, it seems I'm not the only one with questions around here. about expansionISM: I understand the HOW but the WHY still escapes me. I don't understand why people went from behaving as they did to how we behave now. I suppose I don't expect an answer to this one...
I would imagine that in this case people tried to make things easier on themselves. Mainly to stay alive. As far as memes, they must have a few stages of development, it's not like one day out of the blue a culture had something entrenched in it. I think meme development starts with new ideas that get spread. if this is true, people must have seen an advantage to agriculture when they came up with it, man I wish there were some way to do this live.
the cam, but I'm always on my dad's computer. he uses the cam to record meetings with clients and I can't take up it's use. that's why my vids are always quiet, it's cause it's usually night time. no worries I'll get it straightened out
Great video today, again, Adam. Thank you for bringing this theme of "The Tribe" to YouTube. Also, thanx for you non combative manner - a manner which many on YouTube (and off it) would do well to learn from. Where did you learn all of this stuff from by the way?
Just like planting crops if everyone plants the same thing and a bug adapts to it everyone suffers. We planted a consumer driven lifestyle that can not be supported so like dominos when it starts falling everyone from the bottom up will suffer to some degree from it
adam this is awesome. a great outline of things we need to begin remembering and looking into more carefully in order to understand what we can do in our lives to change... clarity on what diversity "is" crucial. it's not just a set of preferences or dressing differently from the people next door.
What would a beetle say if you could communicate with it?
Respect, Regard, Relevance, Resolve.
as: Fight, Flight, Freeze and Fear are the human memes that have taken you away from these basic tenets which govern the natural world.
This is the message one may clearly hear, see, touch, feel and sense from Our*Planet, in every way if they simply take the time to pay attention . . . and to awaken their heart to he'r voice.
It's so sad to see other ways of life being destroyed. They are what make other cultures so interesting. And there is usually a lot we can learn from their successes and mistakes. I like what you are saying about no one right way to live- cultures develop based on what works for them.
Mayans grew too big and probably went through a terrible collapse before they rebuilt themselves into smaller villages.
That is why it is so important that we stop the expansion of our culture. So that the wisdom that has been developed for thousands of years can survive another thousand years.
The original poster is a philosophy n00b. IshTube is a poorly-executed failure.

I agree, memes.
AdamHintz 3 years ago
Then the question is where the bad memes come from. I think contagious toxic ideas don't just pop up out of nowhere.
rspawn 3 years ago
You're right, they don't just pop out of nowhere, they evolve.
AdamHintz 3 years ago
But then where do they originate?
