  • turning the toes out at a 45 degree angle and then letting the knees track in the same trajectory as the toes (but not floating forward over the toes) would allow for a more natural squat. It will also eliminate the need to turn the head to the side and the off-balance feeling when against the wall as in this video.

  • Thanks! They do squats a lot in the group exercises at my gym, and the instructor used to treat me like an idiot for not knowing how to properly squat. I did exactly what Stephen says - I started from my knees, and it hurt (especially squat jumps)! I have since figured it out, but this would have been great back when I was trying to figure it out!

    Most important part of the squat, deeper than parallel transfers the weight to your hips instead of your knees, learn to squat deep and avoid knee pain.
