  • once the muscle tissue and bones are broken there is not much hope, honestly. this was the best thing to do, other than the not having a seditive part

  • i live in the city and have places to get it fixed a vet or a wildlife park something besides that. better to have a broken arm in a cast than a fuckin nub. or adopt the fuckin thing. a horned owl hell ya

  • Damn didnt realize they freakin cut it off :( hunting for that owl we be a bit difficult but you guys are great.

  • The foot was hanging by a bit of flesh, no rehab in the world would have healed it. The best thing for them to do was cut the bit of flesh holding it there and put some alcohol on it before setting it free.

  • id they cut the leg off

  • These guys are fucking bitches!

    Thumbs up if you agree!

  • @RoyTheTechLord You mean the people who tried to save the owl?

  • ive worked rehab before, these people tried, give mother nature more credit, ive seen 3 legged deer with a stub, they pack the wound with mud, owls are very smart, they can even perch useing their belly,as for the trapper,a bullwhip might work,as for the negative peeps, they weren't there,2 vets didn't want to help,go blow,2 cheers for these people trying to help, may the vets who didn't lose their license

  • @yymonk

You are right, I mentioned a one-legged horned owl that was seen for months, probably feeding on smaller prey items, but still alive. At least they gave the owl a chance.

  • cut him some slack people, i know it was rong to take the foot but they did the right thing geting him out of there the owl defintly would have dided if they dident get him out of the trap.. i have a pair of great horneds nesting in my backyard and i watch them all the time. he still mabey survided but i dout it. sucks for the aniaml but also the people. quit being so 1 minded

  • Wow, the comments have shown the least common denominator.

As I stated in a previous comment, what you did, no matter how kind-hearted you thought you were, was the wrong thing. I work for a rehab center that busts its ass to save as many injured birds as possible. Even though you think you know what you are doing, it was not the right thing to do. This bird flew off, landed in a tree and perched on one foot and a stub. I can guarantee that this bird died. Stop congratulating yourself.

  • LOL@little kid..."can I help?" ... cool that he wanted to help though.

  • You did your best for that bird and the rest of these stupid comments are ignorant. That bird was dead in a day or two without your intervention. Well done!

  • Comment removed

  • :( poor owl :(

  • Actually, the foot was hanging on by just the skin (you can see the bone clearly in the shot just before amputation) and would have rotted away, probably killing the owl, without their intervention. A vet would have done the same. And most birds, even raptors, can survive and hunt with just one leg. Especially Great Horned Owls, which have a wide range of prey to choose from.

  • WTF?? so.. you just cut his talon off and just left it??? how is it gonna perch on a branch properly? I don't think it's gonna survive that way.

  • damn tree huggers !!!

  • congrats you just killed an owl. FUCKING DUMB ASSES -.- you should have taken him to a vet with the trap still on his talon. -.-

  • Ahhh why did they cut the foot?

  • Mother Earth goddess Gaia this is very angry because people Disrespect nature but she will show Mercy on people in this video because they atleast are helping the owl Woe to those who hurt nature . Blessed to those who love and respect for the gods creation .

  • Whoever set that trap should be shot in the head. Stupid fucking inbreeders!!!

  • @flotonz420 inbreeders? where did that come from?

  • @GagaMan214 It came from reallity. Only a backwoods inbreeder would have a mental deficiency to set random traps out that kill anything that touches them for fun. Not much of a sport there just generations of family members fucking. That owls life (and its dead for sure with those injuries) is worth more than their families bloodline. Fucking stupid redneck, inbreeding, backwards, hillbillies why would you defend this.

  • poor little guy

  • hey idiots if you look at his uploaders comments he said that he coulden't get help AND that he didn't set the trap

  • If you had chickens killed by an owl, you would NOT say this owl is "innocent". They kill poultry, rabbits, etc. . I do agree that they should not have amputated. Either kill it quickly or take it to a vet. Personally, I would vote for quick kill. I would not spend MY money on a wild animal that would probably repay me by killing my chickens....

  • God bless for saving this animal

  • I hate this video so much. I first saw it on Animal Planet and felt like I would vomit. The people who cut off the owl's foot just gave it a death sentence. It had ZERO chance with one foot. It should have been taken to a rehab center and humanely euthanized. And to the people who set leg hold traps? I would like to stick your foot in one and leave you. Just so you know what it feels like.

  • This is a heart-breaking vdieo and you shouldn't have cut its foot off! You should have sent this poor owl to rehabilitation centre!

  • does covering an owls eyes do the same thing as it does for hawks? like calm them..? ive been killing crows because they are pests to hawks and owls. i always finish a crow call with a owl call cause crows hate owls. that will teach the crows not to go chasin after owls!

  • @brysonwilliams70

Killing crows is a crime, dude. They are protected by law. Stop it.

  • @susangetsnative Nah i choose to have every other bird live instead. Crows kill off birds and eat their eggs to reduce competition. If they were left alone all you would have to listen to in the morning would be the squawk of crows and the clumsy pitter patter of their wings. And they are not protected by law where i live. But... the means in which i kill them are illegal

  • @brysonwilliams70

If you live in the US, crows ARE protected.

And if you kill them, harm them, harass them, steal their eggs, etc, then you are breaking federal law (Migratory Bird Treaty Act). Please educate yourself and stop the ignorance. Crows and owls deal with each other just fine without human interference.

  • @susangetsnative they are invasive to me because crows are ugly and other birds are much more pretty and less annoying than them. i will kill as many as i please, thanks for your opinion

  • @susangetsnative

    Crows aren't protected.

  • 0:50 I think you are an idiot.

  • Owls hunt with their feet, so this guy should have been taken to a rehab center so he could be removed from the trap, or euthanized immediately. With one foot, he got to starve to death slowly, that is if he survived the trauma and blood loss of an amputation. Miserable death.

  • wow... you guys are true idiots, why didn't you take it to a vet or a rehabilitation centre? so that bird is gonna be fine now that you just blatantly cut it's foot off and released it immediately?????

  • And By The Way, Your Hick Hill Billy Children Sound Like Mentally Retarded, Gay Chimpanzees. And I Bet They Are.

  • wow, you idiot... lol.

the people in the video arent the ones who trapped it.

  • You Should Go To Jail For Years For Doing Something As Retarded And Illegal To Such A Beautiful Owl As That You Jack Asses! You And Your Family Are Stupid And Have No Consideration For God's Creation! Ass Holes.

  • You Stupid Hicks Are Dumb Asses! Why The Fuck Would You Have A God Damn Steel Bear Trap In A Tree In The First Place You Morons!? I Hope Your Asses Were Arrested And You Idiots Went To Jail!

  • i think u where on animal planet?

  • watch out for these guys i have worked with one for about a year now and what a bite they've got wow!

  • We had somthing similar happen to a eagle out by my place in montana. it also got caught in a steel trap. but got tangled with both feet. a wing and got arond it's neck. we had to sadate it. and stablise it with meds to keep it alive on the way to the vet's. its about a 1 hour drive to the vet. they saved both feet. they had to insert a rod into one of the legs where it was broken. and a wing cast for about 3 weeks. and lots of IV meds. now he's picken off gofers around the house. btw GOOD JOB

  • poor guy

  • Nevermind that, I read more of your comments and saw how you described that the foot was infected and only hanging by ligaments. In that case you did your best, it was doomed whether you cut the leg or not. At least you cleaned it to prevent further infection.

  • That bird obviously died. You should have taken it to a rehabilitation center instead of cutting off the injured talon. Raptors need both feet to feed, and perch. In essence you did just as much harm as the trap.

  • the bird proved you wrong as he perched in this vid. but ur right i don't think he woulda had much luck hunting with one foot.

  • @loyko40 ...if he didn't die that way he died from infection. Rehabilitation Center was the way to go for sure

  • @crose1021 at first I thought you reply was a cocky comment because I didn't remember what so ever what my comment was but I found it. And exactly injured raptors need to be taken to a rehabilitator as well as other injured brids if they don't show improvement, which this bird wasn't going to.

  • Comment removed

  • @loyko40

No they didn't. The trap had already done the damage before they got there. I've heard of a horned owl seen repeatedly for month...missing an entire foot...probably lost to a trap. At least these people tried to do something. They should be congratulated, not admonished.

  • i dont like it when it happens to animals but i hate it when it happens to a beautiful bird like this!

  • what is up with you people making fun of other peoples heritage when you dont even know them so what do you gain out of this?

    NOTHING!

  • what happened to the owl?

    is he ok?

  • poor owl, i need to know how i can get one to nest in my barn so i can barrow a egg.

  • It is VERY illegal (Both state and federal laws) to take an egg from a raptor nest. Certain raptors can be taken from the wild, but you must be fully licensed(again, state and federal) before even thinking about attempting something like this.

  • so uh, where do u guys live, cause i saw an owl with no foot one time... haha, that would be an odd coeincidense

  • go back on the land bridge to russia.

  • dear moron, there is no land bridge to russia.get your shit straight before you post your racist comment...at least be an educated rascist...i guess thats an oxymoron. ps we were here first hahahahahahahaha...hundreds of years of oppression and we still are strong!!!

  • Dear Drunkenfoot. That's how you fuckers got over here. At least the northern Indians. The land bridge is still there, just under water. That's why I suggest you take that route.

Hundreds of years of oppression, welfare, subsidies, handouts and indian casinos and you still sell the windows out of your homes and get drunk all the time. Good job. Reservation is in reserve like cattle dip shit. You are a slave like all the rest.

  • your comment is inventive and colorful, still we were here first regardless of how we came over, it was the land we lived on. might i suggest you switch to decaf, there are plenty of brands out there that taste just like the real thing...ps why would i leave MY land?

  • Bering Strait Land Bridge?

  • Great job guys. Are there any wildlife rehab facilities in the area. They could have used him for education. Either way you guys rock.

  • stupid humans...thats all im going to say

  • whats the matter, letthewinderaseme? (what a stupid name, btw ) Haven't you ever felt a little compassion for an animal...?

  • hey idiot you obviously dont get what im saying...stupid humans put a trap there to capture and ultimately kill an animal, unfortunately this owl got caught. its great that people are helping but its becuase of ignorant humans that this happens to innocent animals. why dont you go find a trap like this and stick your head in it. ignorant. by the way your name sucks too, what is it your last name and your zipcode??? duh original

  • Obviously, you have issues. You judge me, when you don't even know me. I happen to be sympathetic to the Native American people. However, I am not sympathetic to people like you. And no...it wasn't me who set the trap.

  • Comment removed

  • It is inspiring to see that some people are willing to help out an innocent animal that has been traumatized by one of man's destructive devices. Well done on the rescue

  • Very good I can't believe someone would do that to a great Horn owl.

  • very neat when i was 12 five of my friends and i were riding our bikes in a near by gravel pit when a great horned owl flew over us with a trap on its leg. it landed right in front of us and actually let us take the trap off him he later buzzed us when we left the pit its been 20 years and we still talk about it when we get together.

  • Well done.

  • How very good of you. Kudos.

  • Good job batch72501 for what you had.

  • To bad the leg was rotten. But he still has one to pin his prey. Good Job Cleaning the wound and doing your best.

  • Oh, that was so kind-hearted of you guys! I remember finding a Fennec Fox stuck in a trap, and me and my dad freed it. The good in the world outweighs the bad.

  • bless your hearts

    good job

    good samaritans

  • Thanks for changing my day, something positive after all, in this trouble world .

  • its called take it to the fucking vet and not cut off it foot!

  • dummy, you can't near that thing- it will take your fingers off in one bite and its in a tree... most people have no clue that you did a really nice thing

  • we called 2 vets and neither one was willing to treat the bird. The only reason I cut the remainder of the foot off was because it was only attached by a few dried ligaments...the foot itself was rotten and septic.

  • sigh... wish we could be more responsible towards the world...

  • Michael, mind yo mama boy!

  • Hi i guess it was the best cause no one saw in what shape that birds foot was in but if i were u guys i would of kept it for a couple of weeks in a ched feeding it lots of pet store mice so it can have fighting chace with its health 100%

  • I have seen birds live for quite a while with one leg and can still reproduce.

  • If you find any more animals in traps, especially owls or other raptors, look online for a local rehabber or a state raptor center. SOMEONE will come and take them out of it. I hate it when game wardens don't want to come out and do their job-some of them are crooked and don't care. A good one would have gotten a rehaber and came to take care of it. Ignore the crappy comments, you did the best you could without assistance, I don't know what people expect you to do without the proper help.

  • how come you guys cutting her leg? you fucking idiot you should not have to cut her leg you made me sad f.... l had a eagle you dont know how to help that poor animal

  • She would have gnawed or ripped her own leg off if she were to have stayed in the trap. They actually did her a favor. Its not their fault no one came to help them.

  • This trap was obviously set by a kid that did not know what he/she was doing. That owl would not of been able to fly away with a properly anchored trap. That trap is designed to hold a 50 pound coyote. These trap are an important tool in wildlife management and predator control for specific animals. Any ethical trapper would of felt horrible if this happened and would of done the same to help out the bird.

  • a leg trap is the most retarded method I've ever heard of for wildlife management.

  • There is something spiritual about this video. Thank God for kind souls like you. I swear it almost seemed like the owl stopped to say thank you. :D

  • Kudos to you for doing what you could to help this poor creature - good Karma heading your way : )

  • brave and humaine of you!

  • Calling the game and fish technically would have been the right thing to do, however these people acted with the best interest in mind for the owl. It was a blessing for the owl that they found him before something else did.

  • they did call them

  • Hopefully the owl will be able to adapt to the use of just one leg. Such a crying shame that something like that happened to such a unique animal!

  • Good job, the spirit of the owl is forever great full

  • Kind, kind people here. I'm SO glad you took the trouble to free poor Wol, I can't understand why someone would do this to it or any other animal. I am glad he was OK later on, it must have been a relief to him later.

Michael Howard, former Conservative Leader and owl lover.

  • 3:24 is amazing! I LOVE those eyes! I hope the owl is okay!

  • thank you!

  • i'm so glad someone saw him and helped!

  • Im glad that you guys helped it out, great job!

  • How can people possibly think that steel traps are okay to use? Thank you for doing the right thing. These animals need protection. I work at an animal Rehab center. People assume that animals are unintellegent, but they know more about life than we ever will-they know to enjoy it while you still have it...

Thanks again. I hope the owl is okay.

  • Shit situation, well done for dealing with it. I presume it is an offence to set such a trap in your area? Is it possible for you to post the address/number of the Game & Fish commision office you contacted, so we can all ask them (and I mean politely) why they did not respond? Is it them or the police that have jurisdiction?

  • The Game & Fish Commision sent an officer out to see about the owl. They responded quickly, but simply said they had no resourses do deal with the situation. The officer said he could "remove" the owl, but I took that to mean he would destroy the animal, so I refused. We treated it the best we could and released it.

  • I cant tell from the vid...did you guys have to cut off its leg?

  • The bone and most of the tendons were already severed. The only thing still holding it attached was a tendon and some dried muscle tissue. We cleaned it and applied alcohol for disinfection.

  • Thats sad :( Some people just have no feelings towards animals and think of them as dumb or just here for our benefit but animals make life long bonds and show when they are happy or sad..etc. Anyway I'm glad some people out there like you guys that do the right thing.

I do my part as a city dweller by not killing insects or mice or putting down poison to get rid of pets. Best thing is to just relocate them.

  • Pets or pests? Glad to see people using humane traps, no excuse for wanton cruelty though sometimes poison is the only way of getting rid of ants, rats etc it should only be used as a last resort.

    MH

  • LOL oops. Meant get rid of pests and not pets :)

  • Why would you put down poison to get rid of pets ?

  • Man, that's pretty sad that an owl had to lose one of its legs just because some people still feel the need to catch rodents with steel traps.

I hope this owl doesn't have any problems adapting to the loss. Most owls aren't forced to sit on tree limbs or catch prey with only one talon. But I wonder how he got caught in the trap in the first place; Owls don't spend a lot of time on the ground, do they?

  • Owls spend quite a bit of time on the ground as that is where their primary food source hangs out.

  • Ah, this is true. Maybe geneticists could perfect a flying mouse or somesuch. Or would that be another breed of bat? :-?

  • That's So messed up.I'm glad you guys found and helped it.I hope it lived.Pour whiskey on it lmao.Skunks get in your house? That would be a bad situation..
