Feminism supports men being fathers just as well as it supports women being mothers (equality), as long as these remain choices, not limitations. I'm 100% feminist, and I say "Yay for fatherhood!" I agree that parenting (like society) should also be based on equality. Way to go fathers, way to go mothers!
I agree that fathers are very important in their children's lives. But demonizing feminism and single mothers is not necessary to make this point. What we need is for the two adults who conceived a child to be mature enough to do what's best for that child. Plain and simple.

Great Video, I've been a single father of 2 for 16yrs and SORRY ladies their mother who did live in the same city, has only seen them maybe 5 times in all those yrs. My young adults are now 17&18 and NO she didn't help with child support. And to this day I still get looks when women find out that I raised my kids.

My Father and my Grandfather made me the man I am today, who loves his children and will do any thing possible to keep them healthy and happy. I am the man I am today because from age 11 on, I was raised by my father...I have the issues I have today because, at age 9-11, before she died (thank the Gods) I was molested by my mother, who was granted automatic custody of me after the divorce. You obviously posted this story because you object to the statistical claims of poorer outcomes for children raised in single parent (mostly mother) families. Instead of posting a tragic story (which contributes absolutely nothing to this discussion), why don't you explain what it is your object about these stats?
Again, for me it is about the ideology of feminism and its overall influence. It has become radical in its assumptions and its presentation. I remember sitting through some of my university classes and having it rammed down my throat as if it were the ultimate enlightenment and if you disagreed, you were considered a backwoods simpleton who hated women (even though I am a woman).
BizzyLizzy, it is heartbreaking to hear about stories like the one you share. I have no argument that well functioning people can come from single parent homes while murderous people can come from two parent homes. This however does not negate the fact that the two parent family is still the ideal and that feminism has had a profound negative impact on the traditional family and fatherhood.

In addition, feminism has basically told men to get lost, that women don't need them to survive but then calls men jerks when they do exactly that. Feminism as a philosophy is like a lot of other "isms", it sounds great on paper but the problem with it is that it places the emphasis on ourselves, and in our selfish nature, we want to do what please ourselves first. In practice, it is very self serving. Human nature is to blame for crappy husbands (and crappy mothers) but feminism has tried to make marriage and husbands oppressers, when in reality, marriage is designed to provide the protection, stability, and resources, that children need.

I agree that TV misrepresents fathers. In our home, I rely on DH to help with the kids. He wakes, dresses, and feeds them; bathes, reads to them and tucks them in. I'm out to work at 7AM, and sometimes not home until 7PM. On days off I pick up the slack. At first I was going to add this comment sarcastically, as in "I respect my childrens' father,he does all the work", but then I realized, anyone who wants respect needs to earn it by how they act. Isn't that what we want to teach our kids?

Great video! I am the man I am today because from age 11 on, I was raised by my father...I have the issues I have today because, at age 9-11, before she died (thank the Gods) I was molested by my mother, who was granted automatic custody of me after the divorce. All the good I am and will ever be is thanks to my father.

I have no argument that well functioning people can come from single parent homes while murderous people can come from two parent homes. This however does not negate the fact that the two parent family is still the ideal and that feminism has had a profound negative impact on the traditional family and fatherhood.

In addition, feminism has basically told men to get lost, that women don't need them to survive but then calls men jerks when they do exactly that. It tells women to go ahead, have sex with anyone and as many people as she wants but then wonders why men no longer respect women and see them as something to be cherished and protected. Feminism is its own worst enemy, self-fulfilling in all of its philosophical notions. I know you don't agree Bizzy but that is how I see it.

Feminism as a philosophy is like a lot of other "isms", it sounds great on paper but the problem with it is that it places the emphasis on ourselves, and in our selfish nature, we want to do what please ourselves first. In practice, it is very self serving. Human nature is to blame for crappy husbands (and crappy mothers) but feminism has tried to make marriage and husbands oppressers, when in reality, marriage is designed to provide the protection, stability, and resources, that children need.

And that we have reared them to be very respectful young men. They get excellent grades, are kind and well-liked, and my oldest is off to a top university in the Fall. I agree that TV misrepresents fathers. In our home, I rely on DH to help with the kids. He wakes, dresses, and feeds them; bathes, reads to them and tucks them in. I'm out to work at 7AM, and sometimes not home until 7PM. On days off I pick up the slack. At first I was going to add this comment sarcastically, as in "I respect my childrens' father,he does all the work", but then I realized, anyone who wants respect needs to earn it by how they act. Isn't that what we want to teach our kids?

Despite the many ridiculous claims levelled against me by 2 anti-female posters, and even though I am divorced, I share custody, 50/50, with my ex. His relationship with our boys is as important as mine. This is true of many, many divorced couples. I've seen lots of married women who do it ALL re: kids. I respect fathers who are involved.

For the record, Tilly, I ONLY have ONE ex, as opposed to Solomon's many. And I have never, ever denied my ex custody; we share equal time. I even went against my attorney's advice on this. You are greatly understimating the number of women who, although it hurts to say goodbye for a week at a time, are completely fair about custody and don't 'take our exes for all they're worth.' Almost all divorcd couples I know are like this.

First of all, ever heard of IVF? And the bible is a religious document. Not the issue here.
Second, it's not an ego trip, and it's far from just pregnancy and birth. We are proud of our mothering because we have raised these boys (who respect women, BTW) to adulthood, and we adore them and vice-versa, and they're great people. Damned straight, we're proud. BYE.

Great point. People can be anything/antone they want to be on the Internet. Solomon is an act to incite hatred between the sexes. I have no response to his ideas about women being either SLUTS or MURDERERS, no in-between, no men who abandon or encourage abortion.; that's junior-high-level hate-talk. I know a name is different from this one. but how do I know it's real? And I really know very little about you: how many times you've been married/how many kids you have/how much time you spend with each (can't be much, since you're always here.)
