I once asked a paino-player in Auckland, New Zealand to play his song for a group of doctors & nurses around a piano in the lobby of one of the best hotels in that city. He winked at me & played on.
This ad is a very nice tribute(rip off?) to the 1969 feature film "The Swimmer" directed by Frank Perry and starring Burt Lancaster as a washed up executive who has lost grip on time and reality and decides to "swim" home across New England via the pools of his former neighbours, Lancaster at age 50 spends the whole film in black swimming trunks and his physique is astounding, he makes the Levi ad boy look a bit whimpy! The film is also astounding, the visual iconography is identical in the ad.
wonderful commercial... when it appeared it seemed to be unique, but in fact it continued the nostalgia theme of the Levi's ads in the 1980s that paid homage to the late 1950s-early 1960s US. I think this was played in Europe only, or was it global?
This ad is a master piece. It just captures the essence of that late 50's early 60's era. Looking at some of the people you'd swear they'd stepped out of a time machine...especially that guy with the HOT DOGS. This ad used to be my favourite until... yeah, you guessed it... Levi(Space-Man) ad aired 3 years later.
This was in ref to the Burt Lancaster movie the swimmer...I think?
