....It's easy to control a lightly loaded 9mm, much different than a full house .40 or .45. That is why the U.S.military went with the 9mm, cheap and easy to shoot, rather than significant knock down energy.
@vachief stopping power is a myth. A 9mm has the almost identical penetration to a .40, with almost as large as a wound pattern. Even a .22LR is just as deadly as a .40 caliber. The only differences are with recoil, bullet weight (control drop and penetration, lighter bullets will drop less and lose inertia slower, adding to penetration), powder capacity (to tune recoil, fps and distance). Trust me, you don't want to get shot with a 9mm.
@wc4pwned ...The troops in Iraq and Afganistan say you're wrong. That is why the .45 was develped for the Phillipine Rebellion, the .38s had no stopping power. The 9mm leaves a much smaller hole than .40 or .45 and over-penetrates at hand gun distance. That is SWAT teams use the .45acp. I would rather get shot with 9mm ball ammo that some thug bought at Walmart than a .45 Golden Saber any day of the week.
@vachief your talking ball ammo vs hollow points, of course the entry and exit wounds will be different. they have done ballistics test showing that there really is no difference between, 9mm, 40, and 45 when using the same type of ammo as far as entry and exit wounds.
@txm4gunnut ..I think you are probably right to a certain degree, especially now with advanced bullet designs, but I stll think people are better off shooting a 230 grain hollow point versus a lighter bullet for self defence. Big and slow is better than small and fast in my opinion, but anything is better than nothing, so shoot what you got.

@wc4pwned I didn't know a .22 was just as deadly as a .40. I don't understand why we don't just outfit our millitary with the best Marlin .22s money can buy. Get 500 rounds for $20. Save so much money we could probably clear the countries debt.
@vexer101 More people die from .22's than from .40's. Ask any police officer. They're especially deadly because they change direction after entering the body and often don't exit. They're not good for combat for obvious reasons, so don't be a douchebag.
@vexer101 Also, your military is already using a .22 caliber round, the .223. It's exactly the same diameter as the .22LR, but has a larger casing, and thus more powder, distance and penetration, and it's a centerfire. Using a rimfire is a bad idea all around for self defense or combat, because they're unreliable and lead to jams due to the fanning of the cartridges when they're stacked in a magazine.
I practice these tips and they do help a lot. I lock my primary arm about 90% extended on instinct just because i practiced that way so often. I notice that i will tilt my head down to the right a bit since i am right handed and left eye dominant. I also rest my thumb on top of the thumb safety. I noticed if i have a da/sa pistol and rest my thumb under the thumb safety (frame mounted), i tend to accidently bump the safety back up after recoil. I hate da/sa pistols with frame mounted safety. I
@NickGuilford I'm pretty sure it's a 40 S&W. It's hard to tell, as the 40 S&W is identical to the 9mm aesthetically. It would make sense if it were 40 because he would classify as "major" power factor in USPSA as opposed to minor with the 9mm.
@RyszardOHucki If you see what NickGuilford said, you'll see that I was clarifying the caliber. The x-5 competition is CHAMBERED in 40 S&W. It's quite obviously an X-5.
How do you maintain a high thumb-forward grip with a Sigd? I shoot my dad's P226 with this grip, but the slide never locks back when empty because my shooting thumb rests on the slide catch.
@Liist Quite a few pro shooters never use the slide release because you are more used to recking the slide so it's faster. Adittionally I would almost always reload before i fired the last round.
Regardless of whether these tips will work for me or not, I appreciate you posting them and the professional manner of your instruction. Thumbs up from me.
Thanks for the tips Max! I've been shooting for almost 2 years now, but when I firsted started going to matches, your AMU Pro Tips were the first place that I started learning real technique. I'm sure these new videos are really going to help out.
