I remember watching this live while living in Houston a few years ago. As this happened, I was literally on my feet during the final stretch yelling at the television. The Olympics brings out my national pride unlike any other sporting event, including the World Cup (and I love soccer). Plus, having been to France on multiple occasions and having been treated like dirt each and every time by the locals, this made me even happier. It is always great to beat the French :)
