  • i dont even shave in the middle of civilization, i think on the woods my beard would be at least a foot long!

  • maybe he needed a weekend away from the wife..

  • Taking a safety razor is much easier than this. $20 Razor, pack of 10 Blades for $4, Cheap Bowl, Glycerine Soap and Boar Brush for $10. Much cheaper and you don't have to do all this stropping, honing crap and your shave is just as good.

  • 0:38 That was so casually said, the realization of what he said took a second, and when I did, I couldn't stop laughing.

  • how did i end up here i started with watching cat videos... awkaward.. "/

  • hmm.... what is more dlicate, armpits or face? Cause i'm guessing its armpits, but not sure, anyway if so then...I use normal razor and shave armpits, i mostly dun use any water even with that so should'nt same b with face?

  • I think I'd rather take a DE safety razor with me, than a straight razor. On the one hand, because I've more practise with it and on the other because one doesn't need a leather strop (or even a grind stone). Before honing a straight razor in the woods (resp. before taking grinding equipm. in to the woods), I think I would rather let the beard grow. From my current point of view the shown is not (very) practical. - Anyway 3:15 ^^

  • WOW! That is the worst shaving technique that I've ever seen before. I bet he took two takes, cuz I'm sure his face looked like Freddy Kruger's face after the first pass, LOL!!!! If you really want to see how it's done, check out Shave Nation.

  • My ad is burger vouchers

  • wow its just safer to safe with a real saving tool

  • lol there's an ad next to the video about a razor lol

  • first knife, cold steel trail master

  • I will try this one of these days lol

  • This retard is doing it totally wrong! Hey home boy, you better start using the plastic shavers again or you will cut off your Peter!!!! LOL!!!!!

  • "After all the majority of male bushcraft enthusiasts have beards and quite a few of the female ones too." lololololol

  • fai paura co sto rasoio in mano

  • Can you also shave a pussy with a Trailmaster? If yes wich way does pussy hair grow?

  • @nitroflesh downwards

  • @MoonLover456 hmmmm.. Are you sure? How do you know? hehe

  • @nitroflesh i have one.

  • roll on the spine

  • hahaha female ones toooooooo

  • Amazing amount of comments on a shave ... this is how I used to do ut until the latest generation of Wilkinson and Gillette. No problem at all, preferably after a hot shower. I love to visit barber shops in countries like Egypt, Croatia and Bolivia and get a good man working with his knife. Different styles, different extras. BTW: remember an old girlfriend seeing me once, working with the blade ... she claimed it was the sexyest thing she ever saw ... so there's another reason. :o)

  • NOT WITH A FKIN TRAILMASTER, WTH!. carry a fricken straight razor.

  • I'm bleeding...a lot.

  • It is too hard, mate. I don't mean to whine, but I'd hate if I had to this. The learning bit is intolerable. The whole thing is torture. But I didn't know men grew moustaches in the 1900's because it was the hardest area to blade.

  • and quite a few of the female ones too? XD

  • @mothergooseliverwurs meh, its good hygene to shave, thats why all soldiers are clean shaven.

  • @ashleyjamesdoran Shaving has nothing to do with military hygene standards, soldiers shave so that the respirator can get a good seal on the face. Soldiers operating in areas where there is no threat of Nuclear, Biological or Chemical weapons often grow full beards.

  • @cujomojo2007 Ya your completely wrong, The Only way you cannot shave in the military is if you have a shove chit. Those are only given out for medical reasons or forces overseas in order for them to blend in with the environment so thath they arent as noticable as US Military. 97% or more of the military overseas has to keep daily grooming standards.

  • @ashleyjamesdoran Not long ago I learned that the soldiers were equipped the first time with safety razors and encouraged to shave themself in the ww1, so the gas masks were close/could work. "thats why all soldiers" were "clean shaven"

  • not true, smallest cut can lead to severe infections out field.

  • not true, smallest cut can lead to severe infections out field.yes I am correcting myself

  • People record themselves shaving?

YouTube needs to get like an interest approval thing goin cuz I swear to god ther is some weird shit on here lol

  • wait, why are we shaving again?

  • Soaps and cleansers attract mosquitoes and bugs...

  • why not just bring a disposable razor?... alot less weight than a fucking Japanese water stone...

  • @BowToMySkill

If you are outdoors, bushcraft, camping and or what else, where you need a knife, you would need a sharpening stone anyway.

  • You're probably pretty good with that razor, but just watching you makes me nervous that you'll cut yourself, and blood will gush forth from your neck, at which point various critters (including badgers) will come drink your freshy spewed blood, then bite large chunks of flesh off your warm carcass after you've bled to death.

  • back in boot camp we just said fuck it.. cleaning my m4 is priority

  • Finally! Information for us culured people of the outdoors!

The way some bearded mongrels comport themselves is unacceptable.

    For shame!

Anyone who enters the woods without a complete set of large honing stones, lather brush, shaving soap, a leather strop, and the finest straight razor (preferably with ivory scales) is no better than a savage!

  • @devonkeim

    ... and tea! *bloody savages*

  • Always Flip the Razor on it's spine...never on the blade side you Newb

  • Gee, I wonder why they call it a cut throat razor. Haha

  • Sir, it looks like you really know what you're talking about. Great series, really informative. I just subscribed, hope there are coming more videos. Keep up the good work. :)

  • I Know I Shaving Myself Every Day

  • Its like a guide how to shave :D

  • uh huh and where do you get hot water and soap in the woods?:D

  • Maybe you heard of the element called FIRE... and soap can wasily be made out of ashes(Lye base) and fat drippings(Glycerine). Someone never paid attention in school!

  • @febefighter Birch Bark when ground and mixed with a spruce root makes a great soap and hot water is easy as long as you know how to burn out a bowl from a little stump. Fish fast can even help seal it from heat damage. Another way is put about 5 hand sized rocks in the fire then dig a little hole and fill it with tiny rocks then small stoned. Pour water in the hole, after its full drop the hand sized hot rocks in and that should boil or at lest come close enough to help clean with.

  • finally, been lookin for this for ages

  • Yeah, the first thing I think to bring with me when heading into the bush is a bone handled straight razor, an $80.00 badger brush, my finest leather strop and a lathe carved wooden soap bowl.

I see he went all out for that signal mirror though.

Glad this guys got his priorities straight, survival can be a bitch.

  • @nolobede Man that is so funny, he skipped out on the mirror, and spent a fortune on every thing else..

  • "the majority of male bush craft enthusiasts have beards and quite a few of the female ones too" LOL!!!! PRICELESS!!!!

  • @mothergooseliverwurs unless your to young to grow one like me

  • I can't believe that there is a video series about outdoor skills and one of them is about shaving... it seems a bit ludicrous to think that someone who is clearly taking the idea of "roughing it" to the extreme would even care about having a beard, but that's just me.

  • would the small knife have worked as good as the the rambo one his useing

  • A good boar hair brush work very well and cost very little.

  • Also never turn the razor against the edge always roll it on the spine when honing it, and stropping it.

  • Comment removed

  • Most people seem to recommend turning the blade on its spine so that you don't accidentally dull your edge

  • @mothergooseliverwurs u r right like grizzly adams or jeremiah johnson

  • That's a lot of extra gear to haul into the woods. Go all out and take a barber chair too.

  • What pussy-ass camper carries a straightedge, a badgerbrush, honing strap and a wetstone?...

A 20 cent disposable and some olive oil will do EVERY bit a job and weigh a couple of grams. This is an idiotic waste of time video.

  • @nolobede A straight razor is fine in my opinion. They look cool too lol, but I was thinking the same thing about the shaving soap in the bowl and brush... Kinda much? Olive oil or a little soap will do. Or just not shave till your out of the woods haha.

  • @TheCloakedPanther

Yup, I've got a straight razor that weighs an ounce or so, replaceable blades, works great. And the olive oil, good choice 'cuz it moisturizes as well as lubricates and tastes good too. Personally, I like to come home scruffy and let my wife fuck me like a woodsman likes it.

  • @nolobede I think the ones without replaceable blades are cooler, but the ones with them are more practical.

    And haha xD.

  • @nolobede lol best comment ever.

  • Who shaves while camping???

  • @HammockerSam Extremely classy campers, gotta switch that 65 liter bag for an 80 liter just to hold your shave equipment. lol

  • what a dumbass everyone knows you jerk off first and soak your cum on your face and then shave. if you dont you will cut yourself while shaving. what a dumbass.

  • @Icepaxx Lay off the porn.

  • @Icepaxx ewwwwwwww

  • there is another way true outdoorsmen shave in the woods, they dont

  • Well, unlike some of you, I actually found this video very educational and pretty interesting. -_-

  • His razor needs more honing, you could see it dragging, for most folk an 8k isn't enough.

Also his lather, and technique was poor.

  • He should have rolled the blade over the spine when stropping not the cutting edge. If you get in a hurry you can damage the cutting edge and get a dull blade, or even some nicks in the blade.... he should practice more

  • If hes a real outdoors man he should know not to sit on trees with built up moss, you damage it and the acid from your fingers and belongings can kill it.

  • whats the name of the song?

  • @gotduke90 the song is "where the wind blows" by seven little sisters.

  • good video. whats the name of the song?

  • great video, thanks!!!

  • He couldn't resist making a crack about bearded women LOL, mind you there are some that are rather manish! You have to have very steady hands to use a cut-throat but I have been told by some old timer's that they do give a better shave.

If I tried it I'd end up looking like scar-face on a bad day....I'll stick to what I know!

  • You need to soften your skin and beard with a towel soaked in hot water to avoid cutting yourself.

  • I use one of these a camp. Everyone watches thinking I will hurt myself but I love it.

  • right now im 15 im getting one this year cus i need a better shave

  • nice.

  • great video. people are different (for those complaining as to why shave in the woods)..some people like to maintain their looks and take care of themselves even if out in the wild, others like to look like the dirty homeless guy asking for change at the local gas station (and smell like shit)...its a personal preference thing. Oh...and chicks with beards...saw plenty of that in colorado and maine. lol

  • women with beards :P

  • this is an extraordinary show... and the song in it is so great i love this kind of educational clips, because they can help you to survive in critical situATIONS thx 2 the producers and 2 the team .....from ROMANIA

  • you ask why shave in the woods i ask why not ? i mean you realy whant to look like a bear when you see that gorgeous lady park ranger ?

  • @romeoneverdies And you feel alot better after the 3 S's... Shit shower shave.

  • same saying they had at bootcamp .

  • lol come to the uk, you'll realise that standard from schoolboy rugby up.

  • I'm hoping she likes bears .... Grrrrrr =P

  • very helpful. thanks!

  • where the hell do you buy a jap stone?

  • @moakley globalgear-dot-com, or search ebay, but global gear can have a bit of a waiting list, i waited almost 2 months.

but if you want normal waterstones use either amazon-dot-com or go to lieneilson-dot-com.

    hope helps

  • lmao at women with beards.

  • should you sharpen the blade after every SHAVE???

  • no. After every shave, just run the blade on a leather band (strop).

  • actually BEFORE each shave, the edge needs time to re-allign itself after you shave (I know it sounds like magic, but its not) it gets bent ever so slightly and then slowly migrates back to center.

He is also using too much pressure on the strop, it should be little more than the weight of the razor, the strop should remain straight. it also seems like he's lifting up at the last part, the razor should always lie flat on the strop. otherwise good technique though!

  • Most conceited bushcrafter?

  • a good beard can keep bitting flies off your face and keep your face warm

  • @gratedrake1 but no u make fun of arabs

  • @gratedrake1 maybe, but it can also keep off the biting females, lol :)

  • @gratedrake1 as opposed to a bad beard, which makes noise and gives away your position to the deer your hunting? also, those bad beards always make bad jokes

  • oh yeah let me boil some water so i can shave what crap and also while im at it let me wash my face before shaveing as its very dirty in the wild i might get infections,is this some kind of spoof?

  • @RedJellyable

you should always wash or at least rince your face before shaving

it opens the pores and soften the facial hair making it esayer to shave .

  • @romeoneverdies yeah ill put some after shave on as well, and turn the heating on,hes in the wild not at home.

  • good video!

  • Nice video. Had a lot of good tips on how to use a straight razor.

  • Why would you shave while in the woods? You seriously going to bring all this crap with you just to get a shave? Next time I see a "real outdoorsman" shaving like that, I will eat my hat.

  • um... he's British. AHaHaHaHahaHa...

come on dude. its the stereotype. the grate white hunter, stuffy brits always stopping for tea no matter whats going on. that sort of thing. its funny.

  • Well, what if there's a real looker in the search party that's combing the woods for your missing ass? You don't want to look like Sasquatch, do you?

  • A real Gentlemen must maintain his looks at all times - Lawrence O'Neill.

  • Excellent video! I've watched other videos on the topic and none are as detailed or as methodical as this one. Well done.

  • but why would you have to shave in the woods in such circumstances that you haven't brought a razor from home??

  • nah. if i shave in the woods (not very often because im young) like ones a week. My knife that i use is sharped seriosly razor sharp so u get couple of little cuts because u dont use foam so what. In woods ur face doesend need to be like babys butt. True busscraft doesent carry any of that facy stuff because its basicly useless. Sharp knife and dark plate or lake as mirror. =)

  • interesting vid. I got most of my dads swedish genes so i shave once every 2 or 3 weeks.

  • You mean that swedish people grow facial hair very slowly?

  • No, they're bad at shaving so they have to wait 3 weeks for the cuts to heal.

  • if i used one of these, it would slice off all my pimples xD

  • I`d be a little nervous shaving with that everyday

  • Reminds me of Sweeney Todd xD ^.^

  • why the hell would sumone take all this on a camp or a hike in the woods? as if a normal shaver is that hard to carry around?

  • lol hail satan, this guy thinks he r the master of the blade lol :[]

  • HAIL SATAN

  • Just let it grow. Save yourself a lot of trouble.

  • its better idea but quite difficults

  • quite a few females have beard????????

  • i think its a joke cuz if a female has enough guts to be in the forest without high heels, she must have sum serious testosterone in her system lol : )>

  • where are you going to find hot water in the middle of the forest?

  • you heat it with fire. you dont find it unless there is a hotspring.

  • the last thing your going to thing about in a survival sitautation in the middle of the jungle is your stuble lol

  • cant argue with you there.

  • what if you discover a lost civilization made up entirely of rly hot women?

  • what the fuck are you on about?

  • how would they reproduce

  • why would give 2 damns about shaving when you are in survival situation?

  • why not with that trail master ?

  • bushcraft my ass. this dudes got his whole bathroom with him

  • what does that mean??

  • in the bush what can you use as cream?

  • LOL. I can think of one thing.

  • weak.....

  • that's what she said

  • wow man... sorry to hear that

  • This tutorial on 'how to shave w/ a straight edge razor' has really helped me lot! Because i almost keep flayin meself w/ that bloody straight edge blade everytime i use it LOL

    thx for the tips ;)

  • Interesting.

  • Hahahaha quite a few of the females have beards - its cos they are Men

  • this reminds me of the scene in crocodile dundee

  • I don't use shaving cream at all, just my knife. Cold steel laredo.

  • we need some hunting advice

  • the last thing u wuld think about when ur in the forest is shaving

  • You're both wrong. I have a thick beard.

After two days in the woods, it would be thick as ****!

Shaving makes you feel like you've had a shower, even if you haven't.

  • if your in the woods, the last thing anyone would care about is shaving

  • He should have also shaved against the grain after going with the grain. This would have resulted in a far smoother finish.

  • Dovo Special !

  • hygene and clenliness (I am aware sp) are both important things to keep on track in the bush. YOu can't risk an infection, or worse, being sick.

  • I would think that a cut on your face is a bigger danger of infection. Wash your beard with hot water. And if it gets to long just cut it with your knife. If your knife is too dull to cut off a bit of hair from your mouth hole. You need a lesson in sharpening it. Or just pack some scissors. Plus a beard is good insulation.

And in a pinch sterile hair can be used for stitches. Just my two cents.

  • No, not in warm water, idiot. It won't heal. You need to use cold water.

  • Ashthegreat. Who was talking about healing anything? I'm just saying keep your beard clean with hot water. And leave the shaving for brokeback mountain.

  • in case anyone is wondering what the song is for this series its "where the wind blows" by seven little sisters and its the 1st song in my music playlist if you care to hear it all the way through...enjoy

  • need to shave badly in the bush...

  • Why? Girlfriend too hairy?

  • Very cool! Just got my straight razor kit yesterday. So far so good!

  • i've been trying to learn how to use one, 'cause buying razor blades all the time really adds up, besides it makes your face feel clean

  • depends what kinda bush

  • How about Julia Hayes - I would live there I can tell you SpyroMantis87!

  • your oul one!

  • i only use a cut throat razor,it keeps skin in perfect condition, and is the cleanest shave a man can get.

  • Supersexy!

  • That's awsome, I've always wanted to learn how to do that. He does make it look quite easy, I bet I'll cut myself to ribbons.

  • How stupid. How is this "going bush", the guy has more accessories than a teenaged girl and not to mention the time it took either. Why waste money (and nature) on all that stylish 1930's junk. If you want to travel, simply by a cheap razor, use it - clean it and dry it so it doesn't rust. If you want to use an alternative to cream - use toothpaste, you can make a lather out of it and it feels refreshing. The "bushman" style, how unnecessary... Bloody consumer!

  • Don't mean to tread on your toes mate but I don't think your grasping the picture hear.

There is a vast difference between cheap razors and cut throats. Believe me theres a reason why its called a cutthroat razor and a reason why its considered the closest shave.

The shaving soap is in fact very economical in the long run as u dont use much of it in comparison to toothpaste and shaving cream

Furthermore using a straightrazor is tradition especially in the bush

  • The blade is compact, sharp, can be used for much more than shaving when in the woods mind you ;)

I don't quite get what you mean by 'more accessories than a girl..he had a brush, blade, soap and water. You dont really need a strop and water board all the time thats just for blade maintainence which is down every few months.
