  • nothing can beat oldies, too much soul for music now days.

  • @TheRealDjTovio Yes! You are soooo right! Songs like this just don't exist anymore! " A Lonely Man " was

one of the greatest love songs ever sung by the very talented group, the Chi-lites!

This song will always be remebered for generations to come!

  • I was just comming out of high school so you know what i go through, and the coldest days say no more some of the best of the best my boy's from shi.

  • Play this song on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day and you will heal a lot of hearts in your family ,as well as your neighbors,if you crank up the stereo....I guarantee,,,, Signed, Clark Griswold....

  • The Truth !!!!!

  • They just don't write them or sing them like this anymore. This song is soo....mellow.Timeless.

  • Wow!!! This is real music .. There is nothing like ole school music

  • LONELY SINCE UR GONE RIP CHRIS VEE PISTOL

  • Oh, what voices. These guys were the best. Eugene Record did not get his due! My God, he could write and sing. The harmonies were so tight. Man, again for the 70s. Those were the days when music accompanied singing and not shouting over the din. CLASS in capital letters!!

  • I used to sit up in my room as a kid with this record (and several Chi-Lites records) and play them over and over again. The harmonies these cats put out were a great work out! I would stand in the mirror and sing my little heart out. They don't make them like this anymore.

  • Solid Gold

  • Damn man, this is one of my favorite songs. It helped me through troubling time when I was a kid (when I was in Rancho San Antonio Boys Town of the West in Chatsworth, Ca. Nobody knows about this type of music.

  • been looking for the song...forgot the title

  • Oh sooooo sweeeeet.....in my late sixties.....always relaxes me..keep me smiling..you just don't know......

  • This song describes how I felt after this thing I had with a girl

  • "Oh, I just gotta go

I said, baby, baby, baby, baby, oh

    I just-just-just-just got to go"

  • Chi Lites,Spinners,Temptations,Stylistics,Blue Magic,Marvin Gaye,The Dells,Drifters,Platters,Smokey Robinson,Luther Vandross,Michael Jackson,Peabo Bryson,Floaters,Delfonics..Man,That's REAL MUSIC...Im sure I left a lot out ACCIDENTALY but DAMN...I feel BAD for the KIDS these days..God Bless Soul and MoTown music Forever..

  • Goose bumps again and again

  • When I was a teen back in the 70s I thought this music would always be around. These guys were harmonizing this song, I love song .

  • This is the best sung song by the Chilites.

  • I love how these brothers expose their vulnerabilites in song. Even when speaking, they are articulate in expressing themselves. Today's "singers" don't express themselves in this way, and it is a shame. Music has a way of saying things in our hearts if only we had the words/chance. I love 70s soul for that very reason -- superb lyrics, beautiful music, and a lesson in hearing of it.

  • Damn.........Them Brothers SANGIN THAT!!! How did that 1 get by me back in the day.. Thanks for this Post......I cant STOP Playing it after just hitting 50....The Slide show only makes it Better and appropiate to the Ladies Lost!!! I am feeling this ONE....

  • Damn.........Them Brothers SANGIN THAT!!! How did that 1 get by me back in the day..

  • Damn.........Them Brothers SANGIN THAT!!! How did that 1 get by me back in the day..

  • I don't know how anyone can dislike this, awesome thanks for posting this tune takes me way back.

  • thats the type of music thats keeps me goin...when music meant something not like today where the lyrics dont mean nothing

  • A Lonely Man!!!

  • man those boys be putting down......now this is real music.man i have to grow my frow back exept i have a bald spot.......

  • man those boys be putting down......now this is real music.

  • awesome tune, don't play like this anymore, 100 percent talent...

  • another example of suerior vocal instrumental black sweet soul music that is immortal,,,,,sekou larry johnson on providence plantation

  • The Chi-Lites were some saaanging brothers!!!!

  • This song bring back so much memories of my childhood. Listening every Sunday and memorizing the words. They don't make them like this any more.

  • Folks, let me tell you..........the Chi-Lites, and songs like "A Lonely Man"........represent Old-School "Magic" at it's absolute FINEST! It simply doesn't get any better than this. I've been blessed to have been on this Earth for 54 years...........I think I have a "clue" what I'm talking about.

  • gran tema

  • the chi lites are some bad boys.music of that era actually had messages in them.

  • Got to be five of the most soulless people alive not to like this........

  • Now THAT....is a lonely man!

  • this songs too bad i'm tatooing this one on my skin!!

  • What can I say this is just the best music in the world ! All those great soul groups of the 60's&70's '!!!!

  • And guess what, not one curse word, non violent materoial.I never got to see them live but I was in Germany after Nam in the military. And plain black folk GI's would stand in the middle of those historic buildings and they would sing these and other songs. AHh the long lost sounds of the roman chariots on those coblestone streets still there to this day, replaced with these guys with their wonderfull vocals and thier tall slender bodies with their afros and long trench coats with snow flakes

  • IT'S SAD BUT TRUE THEY DONT MAKE MUSIC THE WAY THEY USED TO NOW THATS THE TIME I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO BE GROWING UP I STILL ENJOY THE MUSIC FROM BACK THEN I CAN LISTEN TO IT OVER AND OVER AND NEVER BE TIRED OF IT FOR SURE THAT WAS MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @MsCyclonia You're right. This is real music. No computer work, but man made. Especially the vocals in harmony. Great. I enjoy it, even though this group wasn't know in the Netherlands that time.

  • @MsCyclonia You're right. This is real music. No computer work, but man made. Especially the vocals in harmony. Great. I enjoy it, even though this group wasn't know in the Netherlands that time.

  • A timeless, vastly underrated classic! They hardly ever make songs like this nowadays!

  • I still think 70's music is at the top of the music game

  • Anyone remember this one!

  • This is a Chi-Lites classic; maybe one of the best songs ever written -- check out the lyrics. Eugene Record wrote it; he was one of the greatest song writers of his era! This song and Eugene were both underrated in the music world. I love the Chi Lites. Know all the songs; check out Time for Love, Marriage License, and Toby--some songs you may not have heard but great lyrics and vocals.

  • @itsHerALLURE Right there with you. We have to try to shed light on some of the unsung musical heroes who never got their due.

  • Thanks for posting this song. Have not heard it played for a minute til it hit me to look on YouTube. They don't make songs like this anymore. Thanks!

  • Thanks for posting this song. Have not heard it played for a minute til it hit me to look on YouTube. Thanks!

  • super ....super

  • Absolute class....

  • Man i just love this song. I got to have baby!! oh yes.

  • This sounds so nice!! I could really see some of the song being sampled in a Jazmine Sullivan song or a hip hop song. A true classic!

  • THIS IS MY SONG.

  • They don't make em' like this anymore! I'm 24 and I feel for our generation....

  • @FroStoppa You might like Aloe Black's new album, or Donnie, but yeah at least the classics are still available.

  • @FroStoppa I agree im 20 myself and these songs are just mindblowing, Ive been listening to oldies and i thank my Dad for introducing me these songs, they have meaning, unlike these annoying do the stanky leg crap you got now, its all repetitive and garbage now.. How i kind of wish they made music like this again...This music suits me well, fits my lifestyle as well.. Peace friend

  • This should have been just as big a hit as "Have You Seen Her" and "Oh Girl"...never heard this song on the radio. Only "discovered" it when I bought an album so many years ago. If it weren't for people like you who post on YouTube, people like me would never hear these songs again. Thanks!

  • Sometimes I wonder why my generation can't create songs on par with the classic oldies. Why can't I hear more of "Why should a man be lonely/ When he had someone like you?" Instead of pretty much 99.9% of the nonsense in the top 100 R&B list on billboard today? Shouldn't music progress with time or age like fine wine? Then please explain why someone of my age can only find comfort in R&B by visiting songs from an era he wasn't even a thought in the minds of his parents?

  • @lovewhispers68 You have to pursue greatness, like The Chi-lites today. I came up with this music and nothing today comes close. Period. Bless you for hearing the difference. Thank God for all of the vocalists and harmonies, real musicians and song writers. People young and old are searching for this gold and much of it, even the most obscure is being re-released. Dells, Dramatics, Blue Magic,Stylistics,Chi-Lites,Harold Melvin,Main Ingredient. ALL GOOD! Thanks for this wonderful post. Peace

  • @lovewhispers68 Because theres no emotion in music anymore this song hits your heart baby by justin beiber is just emotionless

  • Respond to this video... awesome im going through a situation like this now

  • that's music!! make me wanna regress.lol

  • baaaaaaaaaaaad

  • this is the same song as "have you seen her." hah.a

  • My Aunt Used To Play This Around The House. I Knew it Was The Chi-Lites. I Just Couldnt Think of The song Name. Thanks For Posting!!!

60s & 70s Best Era in Music Period!

  • This is oh soooo beautiful. One of their BEST:) Thanx so much for the post!!!!

  • MY COUSIN DENNIS ON THE DRUMS FOR THE CHILITES!

  • By far one of the most harmonious groups in the industry & most under-rated. If you really listen to The Chi-Lites you will notice they have the most perfect tone in their vocal illustrations.

  • One of Chi-Town's Finest...! nawn wat i mean baaby...! Old School 70's Mid-Tempo Stylee.... Real Proper...!

  • Hella of job DiscoNights1987. I got the vinyl "The Chi Lites" and still enjoy hearing any all the tracks any and everytime. A super talented group of individuals who I think did not get their "commercial" due. But WE know and that has to matter a lot.

  • Love the ChiLites: I will be sixty y.o. in a few months.....Was a university student in Jamaica in the seventies, fell in love in 1970 and got married in 1974......Seems like Eugene and the boys were saying all the things I wanted to tell my girl. " I want to pay you back" was the theme song at my wedding!!!! R.I.P. Eugene and Squirrel.

  • Back in the day at THe Total Experience on Crenshaw!

  • Wow the seventies : A cold Red Stripe Beer,Heineken or Guinness,a Jukebox and some quarters,,,,,,,Wow. Let the imaginations run wild!

  • There are actually two (2) original members still living. Marshall Thompson and the bass singer Cradel "RED" Jones. Man this was some good shi# I was is and will always be a chi lite fan. They didn't get the pop credit they deserved, but the r&b community sure knew who they were.

May Eugene and Robert rest in peace. Love you fellas

  • Again !!! another master piece in the record books of time! This was a time when music meant and said something !! why can't we have "REAL" artists like this today!

  • feel the music.....wow

  • Harmonies from another world!..........that was always my personal impression of the Chi-Lites. These gentlemen were SO talented, and the quality level of their music was SO high......they (along with the Temptations) set the "bar" for all of the vocal groups that followed decades later. "A Lonely Man" was created during my High School years (the early 70's), and assisted me with that transitional period of my life. Great music like this is NEVER forgotten......and ALWAYS cherished!

  • To Whomever linked all of this wonderful music together, thank you from the bottom of my heart!

  • I truly enjoyed this video. The Chi-Lites may be imitated but never duplicated. This song "A Lonely Man" almost cause me to miss my school bus. It ia so awesome to listen to over and over again. Rest in peace Eugene and Robert. There will never be a voice like Eugene.. I love me some Chi-Lites

  • U betta let me tell ya! I LOVE THIS SONG! Thanks DiscoNights1987. This song is awesome!

  • @LainOutOnTheFloor No problem! Glad you enjoyed the song! :-)

  • @LainOutOnTheFloor Don't feel bad sweetie, I lost all my greats CHI-Lites ,Miracles, Tempts, Dramatics, J5 ect, ect, ect!!!!! I'm SO HURT!! But this makes up for it. Thanks for posting DiscoNights1987.

  • @alexica87 I think you're talking about "Have You Seen Her?" by the Chi-Lites.

  • @DiscoNights1987 thank you so much i finally found it xx

  • @alexica87 You're very welcome. :-)

  • @alexica87 MC Hammer

  • love these sad tunes

  • mr eugene record was so humble and cool thats why Ibelieve he didnt get the credit he definetly deserved to me hell of an artist in the game in his time well robert rest in peace along with eugene ok peace

  • the chilites were extremeley dangerous great harmonies rest in peace robert and eugene

  • this is a very smooth and inspiring song

  • The Lyrics and the harmony of THIS! song inspires me to know when its time to move on.

  • That harmony!!!

  • That horn section....that tight as a drum harmonizing....I know that Philly Soul was ruling during the early 70's, but these guys out of the Windy City sure gave Philly a run for their money.

  • I didn't know Robert "Squirrel" Lester had passed..I'm very sad. I saw the Chi-Lites at the Brooklyn Academy of Music last year and Marshall Thompson did say he had been very sick and asked the audience to send up their prayers for Robert. He's now harmonizing with Eugene in heaven and thank God we have their musical legacy which will live on forever..R.I.P. Robert....

  • great harmonies, not heard this song before, thanks to UK stations only playing 'Have you seen her'.......other artist suffer the same fate, Curtis Mayfield comes to mind.with 'Move on Up' ....

  • I'm looking for an old song by the chi lites or stylistics or somebody else, I'm not sure. It had these lines in it:

every house has a door, every shoe has a sole, everybody's got someone but me....

    anybody out there knows it?

  • I believe the song you are talking about is "I Ain't Got Nothin'" by The Temptations.

  • Wow thanx! I know you know how nice it is to find something lost...lol! And so fast too... thanx a million

  • LOL No problem! Hope you enjoy listening to the song after all these years! :-)

  • ty for posting this song im into them even though im 13

  • RIP Robert " Squirrel" Lester

  • The best sound on the planet ! Every song Eugene Record wrote is AMAZING ! Now only Mr. Marshall Thompson is surviving original member.

R.I.P. Robert "Squirrel" Lester passed on to that great microphone in the skies.. 1-21-10

LOVED and Missed 4ever. Squirrel and Eugene singing together again in the heavens ...

  • Ahh the chi lites! On The bass is a ghost player who's real name is James jamerson. Master of the bottom notes in a harmony

  • The Chi-Lites were absolute HEROES of mine! The 70's were my High School & College years, and I can not over-emphasize the significance that great music like this played in my life. The late Eugene Record was, without debate, one of the most talented, truly GREAT lead vocalists of that era, who I feel never received the appropriate recognition he was entitled to, while he was alive to accept it. "A Lonely Man" is truly representative of the beautiful music the Chi-Lites consistantly created.

  • CLASSIC!! Thanks for posting!

  • I have a couple of Chi-lites Albums,as well as "Best Of" compilations, but this is the first time I've

ever heard this Sweet slice of Soul!...Cheers!!

  • OHHH MY GOD How long I have been looking for this song this song gives me goose bumps I LOVE THIS

They don't make music like this anymore

  • Oldiez Rox

  • My older sisters would wear this song out on the record player - GREAT CHICAGO SOUL!!!!

  • After almost 38 years this song has the same effect on me as it did in my teen years, not too many songs I've heard since then can top this underated song. let me tell ya! got to go on.I love this song.

  • im 18 i grew up listening to oldies at partys n i listen to oldies everyday man i think i shouldve been born 30yrs earlier dont like ne music on the radio now its all ignorant n talks about sex not makin love what ever happened to music

  • So true!

  • @fulaschicano714 i feel ya on that man. not the being born 30yrs earlier part tho lol. today's music just really isn't the same. i can only stand the radio for so long. even the love jams on nights don't help out that much except for certain classics.

  • @fulaschicano714 Same exact story here. Plus I none of the people I know listen to oldies like this which is pretty hard to understand :/

  • my daughter is 16 and she tells me all the time that her classmates think this type of music and displaying of affection is wack. she says she can't find one romantic guy in a crowd. how sad is that?

  • Too sad. thet don't understand .4 sure.

  • That sad .They don't understand.4 sure.

  • Best love song of all-time! Can you feel the sincerity, longing, and regret in the man's voice. Nothing close to it today.

  • Lord have mercy..harmony, beautiful music, pure and simple heartfelt SOUL that touches your heart...The Chi-Lites can make both women and men cry with their music! Nothing like 70's R&B..that's all there is to it......

  • You haven't experienced harmony, until you've experienced the CHI-LITES. Their music is priceless. Eugene Record was a great as Smokey Robinson. I'm still playing their records and LPs.

  • Yoooo, this is my jam for real! I love all their joints but this one,Damn I cant even explain.....

  • song brings back so much memories, such a unique and beautiful song

  • this has to be one of the best song i have ever heard in my life im 29 years old and man the chi-lites got it going on .

  • In 1972 this was the sweetest song I had ever heard, Of course I was only sixteen at the time.

  • this song is one of the best ever to walk the air wave of music ever. so lovely

  • This has been my jam since I was 16yrs old in Harbor City baby......come on.....

  • im 17 and i love this track

  • So good to hear such a fab song again .Hell when you have to re live your secret memories through music ,wonderful incredible group of singers nobody today come close to such a great set of performers

  • I agree! The HARMONY is so so perfect until it's crazy!!! Not to mention the memories that this song as well as all of the Chi Lites songs brings back to the heart as well as the soul!!!!!

  • They don't make these songs anymore. Great song from one of the best music Groups of the past.

  • Another of the 50 odd brigade ! 53 here and in full agreement with the others. We were truly blessed to live through the era of the Chilites, Blue Magic, The Moments, The Ebonys, The Stylistics etc.

Oh for some strings, harmonies and real lump in the throat tunes today. Keep the Faith !

  • Those harmonies give me chills

  • Comment removed

  • This is a great song right here, sung with those great Chi-Lite harmonies

  • i agree with dsmooth56. i listen 2 it everyday. it reminds me of a certain some1 and i cant live without. i rated ur comment twice cuz i agree twice. love the chi lites

  • i am 39 and i love the chi lites.

  • I love this song so much it puts me in a zone that I dont want to listen to anyone or anybody. and I felt that way 37 years ago when it hit the air waves. This song puts me in a mood. I have to listen to it every night before I go to bed. Its scary what this song does to me.

  • great song, ish like this is like wine & only gets better with age - definitely better then some of the crap being hyped today. respect :)

  • Being the age of 52, I truly thank God that I am old enough to have experienced & enjoyed groups such as the Chi-Lites when they were actively performing soul "Masterpieces" such as this. Eugene Record was probably one of the least recognized, truly GREAT Male vocalists in the entire history of R&B/Soul music. His songwriting & production skills were exceptional, but his voice; pure silk! It's exactly songs like this that make being "Old School" pretty damn cool.

  • Since we are the same age, I too can relate to that! I also had the pleasure of meeting the Chi-lites many, many times over the years, I have always admired and enjoyed these guys!! They are terrific!!! this is most certainly a great song. I love all their songs!!! Thanks for posting it!

  • 54 here! We're so blessed!

  • Why should a man be lonely

(why should a man be lonely)

When he has someone like you...

Where are those classic lyrics at in today's soul music? They're gone. Soul music has become nothing but a gimmick sound.

    mike t.

  • After 37 years this songs still gives me chills. I don't about you ,but this song is and always will be my favorite

  • have this on viynl, slightly obsessed with this song

  • AMAZATION !!!

  • True musical arrangements. Today's stuff has no true musical arrangements.

    mike t.

  • amen, brother.

  • this is back when music was pure and simple. good listening

  • Classic, Classic, Classic! thanks for the post!

  • perfection!
