Vagabonding, you forgot to mention that the 800$ hotel with the 30$ lunch buffet is an interesting example of monopoly, since it's prohibited to bring any type of food or snack inside the ruins and there is no other food service outside of the gate.
The roast pig itself should cost $30 a plate, as you will never get this anywhere in the US unless some family is making their own in their backyard somewhere. The piglet should be anywhere from 15-25 lbs. and roasting takes more than 5 hrs. This type of cuisine started the famous 'pulled pork' dish. Only, pulled pork from this whole pig is much more tender and tastier than what you would get in various restaurants in the States. I definitely will eat at this place. It's unique.
We were a little bummed about not going here (or even looking at the buffet) when we went to Machu Picchu, but after watching this, I'm very glad we didn't go. This definitely is NOT worth the $30 price tag.
We were starving and thirsty, and honestly, the overpriced orange juice hit the spot. We were satisfied just enough to go back to Aguas Calientes and have a better lunch for much, much, much cheaper.
People do not realize how many plants have their Origins in that region of South America including the Potatoes, Tomatoes, Chili peppers, Peanuts... including the Quinine that was the main cure for Malaria until the 1940's.
Tens of thousands US troops in Africa and the South Pacific died due to the lack of quinine. Despite controlling the supply, the Japanese did not make effective use of quinine, and thousands of Japanese troops in the Southwest Pacific died as a result.
Those are the original Corn Nuts!!! Albert Holloway who invented the Brown Jug Toasted Corn later renamed his product CornNuts. After Holloway and his sons Maurice and Rich learned of a breed of corn grown in Cusco, Peru that grew large one-inch kernels, the company researched developing a hybrid of the Cusco corn that could be grown effectively in California.

Looks like a good buffet, but I wouldn't pay thirty dollars for it.

With today's dollar, I'm surprised it isn't $80.
