  • The so called 8F is actually a Black Five. Sorry to be a pain.

  • Great Video, 5 Stars!

  • I'm told that this silly 30 mph speed limit through Dent is because of the foot crossing [There’s no footbridge]. The trouble is we live in a stupid PC world and also have constant interfering from the nanny state. It seems we can’t be trusted to walk across the railway in an orderly fashion. In my book a simple red and green light would suffice, but hey, some people can’t even get that right! Anyone stupid enough to cross on the red light has a fair chance of getting their comeuppance!!!!

  • So trains could go that fast through Dent in 1967 could they. What's changed since then? Hasn't the track has been repleced and made much smoother? Why is there still a 30mph speed limit through this station when the track is new? Wasn't the S&C mostly 90mph? Imagine that now! You be able to run a 20 minute service!

  • @Nigel16032009

Probably has something to do with the gaugeing between the trains and the platform - It is not unknown for 153's to scrape the platform edge when passing though there.

  • @Nigel16032009 Health and Safety interfering. Mainline steam locos are 'limited' to between 35mph and 75mph depending on wheel diameter direction of travel and other stuff.

  • What a wonderful video. Also nice to see that freight didn't always move at a snails pace back then. thanks for sharing this with us, top marks.

  • Very Good

  • Excellent Video 5*

  • Amazing to see this. As a child growing up in Aberdeen I saw photos of this magical place. I went there for the first time a couple of years ago, the atmosphere was dark and brooding. To see this film is wonderful.

  • Takes me back with vivid memories, thanks mate

  • Oh yes! Sorry! I forgot to say thank you for those unique shots!

  • I was around then but over the years one forgets how fast steam freight trains went. Preservation is fine but they (obviously) don't run preserved freight trains at line speed anymore.

  • They don't seem to run anything that fast there any more - some of that looks to be quicker than the current 60mph line speed (and IIRC it's slower still through Dent station). And all that trackwork there where there are just the two lines now.

  • Superb footage David, especially from Dent Box..5*...Bob

  • Brilliant stuff

  • Excellent footage, thanks for sharing.
