All budget small carriers be it Gorkha Airlines or Buddha Air in Nepal are using outdated planes. Weather over the Himalayas changes quickly and the landing strips are small with complex approaches. Jumla is great but you so realise that 20 seconds after take off the pilot has to have gained enough altitude to clear the valley end. It is amazing there are as few deaths as there are, credit to the Nepalese pilots.
@klausbmj so u think u people of hongkong have the brains.......you write such thing about people on youtube and you showed how talented you people of hongkong are
Only Nepalese pilot can land there... B'coz only they have got that much of courage in their blood..!!.. Gurkhas are not only brave in war, they are brave in everything!!
Why? Planes in and out all the time, one pilot gets it wrong and people want to spend billions! Your not an elected offical, are you? Risk is getting out of bed, after that happens it is all a crap shoot! Your rolling the dice all day not knowing or caring how close you came to a swift end...Ignorance is bliss!
I went there the following May and as we came in to land this horrible accident was in the back of my mind. But to be honest, and considering the amount of traffic going in and out of this short, single strip airport, it isn't a particularly dangerous area. Accidents at Lukla are rare. Having said that, there's no room for error on the part of the pilot.
If you have the time, I suggest doing the classic trek, starting from the trailhead at Jiri. You'll have to add about a week to your trek, but it's more gratifying, there are some amazing sights, wonderful hamlets, great trails, and the experience overall is that much more impressive and memorable. Plus, you'll be more acclimated by the time you reach Namche (which will mean you'll be much more comfortable).
@bodidley70 You ever try the St Barths and Saba landing in the Leeward Islands of the Caribbean? I have mastered those in FSX, but I can't imagine it in real life!!!! Yet, there have been no fatalities at either airports!!!!
@bodidley70 I Love Flyin' at SABA, TNCM, St.Barths.. with Fly Tampa Scenery, Bro,,, This landing is The Worst AND the Hardest,, the WORST Thing is that, u gotta Nail it In The First Try,,, if you Don't.. Ur GOnna Fly Into a Fucking Wall of Rocks
does anyone know how many crashes there have been at lukla airport. i know its a dangerous airport but just a little bit curious as im going there in october!!
Don't worry about it, considering it IS the one of, if not, the worlds most dangerous airports, this has been the worst crash. Go to wikipedia and find more on crashes. But let me tell you. You will have so skilled pilots at the yokes flying the airplane. No worries at all.
at 0:37 he´s trying to see and find a wallet with money---sorry God about this words, but exists lots of histories about that and when i saw this video at that moment(0:37) remind me that!! peace for those who lost their lives.
CFIT PURE!! Under VMC conditions, UKLA is the most dangeours airport in the world..so How can a pilot approach in that conditions?? The return of Kamikazes...poor paxs...R.I.P

Pilot was a moron, should never have even attempted this landing.

@Neutrinoghost You also could say: pilot IS a moron. The pilot was the only survivor.
Quakkerillo 1 year ago
@Quakkerillo Which pilot survived?
Neutrinoghost 1 year ago
@Neutrinoghost The pilot of the deadly crash at this airport, of which the video description and footage are here above.

Why no Leading Lights or VASI if visibily is low many times over? Also has big rocks before runway. Which that airplane hit.
I guess passengers sign a waiver. Besides most of them are foreigners, not Tibetian. Ridiculous Airport Approach Safety.
i have 43 landings at St. Barths, no reversers. Aztecs.

There was cloud and fog on the approach; that's been known to happen, but this would've been a NO-GO for me. This is so, so sad.
