Amitabh and Dilip Kumar are both great actors. It would not be wise to compare them - how can one compare Mangoes, Apples, Oranges to one another. There are different kinds and taste differently but all are great fruits.
Dilip Kumar excelled at whatever roles he has done. Amitabh's career has spanned over many more movies than Dilip and has done quiet a vast range of roles. Obviously, people are more familiar with his work. Younger generation might not be as familiar with Dilip Kumar's work.

Well, Dalip is great but honestly Amitabh has surpassed everything, and its for sure there was never any actor (in the world) like Amitabh before, now and never will be anyone ever. Amitabh was , is and will be best ever......no one can ever take his position.....Be it Comedy, Action or Serious role Amitabh can beat anyone by miles.......his performances in PAA, BLACK, MAIN AZAAD HUN, KHUDA GAWAH etc.. are hallmark of performances that Dilip kumar cant even imagine to touch......imagining dilip kumar in such roles will be mockery of those roles.....
I just think that both have ruled the film industry for a long time, it's just that as I grew up I watched Big B as a lead and only saw DK doing the chracter roles. DK was big with my parents generation when he was the lead. No doubt they are both legends and sorry but SRK is a mosquito compare to BIG B, however I do like him as well.

I just want to say one thing, Mashaal ( 1983 ) proves who is better actingwise. Even AB will never match the scene in which Dilip cries out for help for his wife who is dying.

Think of it as us humans having issues with God, wondering why isn't he here when we have problems. Bc he has a law too that he can't break. It's as if when Amitabh called Dilip "Dad", finally, think of it as people who finally acknowledge God's authority, knowing it hurts him when his most loving creation, us, rebels or hurt by the law. Guys, there's a reason why he shot his son. You can see how he was tested to by the law for he had to live by it. If Dilip were to break it, then he would be corrupt by the law. Nothing is more painful than knowing to shoot your own blood. On top of that Dilip didn't know that he heard that conversation on the phone. If he did then he MORE LIKELY would have not said anything. But you know, the choice would be either risking other people's lives or sacrificing one to prevent from more crime.

Scene is there in the film where Dilip Saab is running after Amitabh at the airport and Dilip Saab warns him and Amitabh sees backwards and they see each other and Amitabh again starts running. Amitabh writes that as soon as he saw in eyes of Dilip saab he missed his next action and hence after few retakes scene was finalized by director Ramesh Sippy.

People dont watch old movies anymore, ofcourse the stories, technical facilities and everything has changed..but it can be said that if somebody does watch some old films then he/she would certainly agree with all of Dilip Kumar's contemporaries, immediate juniors, juniors and actors coming decades later, many of them legends in their own right, and ofcourse the masses of the subcontinent that he is the best actor ever to grace the screen.

If only they knew acting is not war, its not even sport, where the winner is declared. Acting is not about destroying the other person (thats bad acting) what sort of people go to movie to see SRK destroy AB or DK destroy AB? Acting is all about doing justice to a role. If DK did great justice then he is not a legend for no reason, so he deserves. AB has done great movies in past and recently from social angle (Black), which is what all great actors should do after becoming commercial success.
Now this is just a movie and two great and talented actors did their bit in the movie. DK and AB cannot be compared-firstly they belonged to different eras and secondly comparing them is not being fair 2 either of them. People who compare them are mainly doing it for their own egos(unfortunately Indo-Pak, hindu-muslim spill over). Most of them are arm chair experts. Its like little kids arguing 'My dad can beat your dad'. Guys, enjoy the movies and stop fighting to prove your points.
Please please please people! Stop mentioning even the name of Shahrukh Khan. That nautanki-wallah is nowhere close to AB and Dilip Kumar. He can do hamming and overacting and teardrops rolling down the cheeks, but restrained method acting?...no way! You're better off with Aamir Khan...

I am a huge fan of Amitabh and enjoyed this movie. Both gave great performances but in my opinion Dilip Kumar was slightly better. It was fantastic to see these two actors together in one movie. Actually I don't really care who was better, I just enjoyed the movie with these two icons. In the same way I try to enjoy a movie with SRK and Amitabh. Why hate? I rather choose to enjoy it.
This is one of my favorite movies. Amitabh did a fabulous job just as did Dilip. Dilip had the meatier role in this movie therefore he outshined Amitabh. It is not a fair comparison. Amitabh has done as good work as Dilip in umpteen movies i.e. Deewar, Chupke Chupke, Silsila, Cheeni Kum, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Sarkar, (I have not seen Sarkar Raj as yet), etc, etc. They are both consummate professionals and if the director and the script calls for it they tone it down.
I totally agree with Faiz. Dilip Saheb had a much more author backed role than Amitabh did in this movie. However, I think Amitabh held more than his own against Dilip Saheb. Any other actor would have been completely over-shadowed by Dilip saheb in that role.

Dilip Kunmar is great actor who mastered drama but don't forget that Amitabh more versatile actor and he can act in drama, comedy, and an angry man in action which takes more efforts.

I was only a kid when shakti was released and i seen it in cinema at that time and then on video i cried at the end and i hated dilip cus he shot my hero. did u know that a great deal of this movie was changed specialy the final scene which orignaly is filmed dilip chasing amitabh in a helicopter and amitabh is in a stolen police car and dilip says some lyrics in the scene which amitabh thought that cud harm his reputation at the time so amitabh insisted to the director that the seen shud be altered and also dilip agreed it cud harm his career. yes dilip rips him apart in the final scene he says "u r beneath me u cant get anywhere".

As far as I know there was cold war started between these two great actors. The scene was camera focused between the dilip kumar legs when he visited the lockup to see amitabh. Amitabh was sitting with the wall & he watched him. Now dilip was standing in front of him & he was sitting and watching him. The director showed the amitabh from the centre of legs. Amitabh demanded delete the scene while dilip disagree. That was a fact, therefore they didn't appeared after this film.

well sohneya1 the movie was not realy a box office flop it just did not live up to its expections, ramesh sippy was the film director who had done sholay which eveyone knows and needs know intro. did u know that dilip kumar was offered the role of thakur in sholay but he refused it because he wanted to change the script he didnt want the takurs hands to get chopped of by gaber singh he wanted the story to be that 3 guys go out to hunt gaber rather than 2 .

Amitabh and Dilip Kumar are both great actors. It would not be wise to compare them - how can one compare Mangoes, Apples, Oranges to one another. There are different kinds and taste differently but all are great fruits.
Dilip Kumar excelled at whatever roles he has done. Amitabh's career has spanned over many more movies than Dilip and has done quiet a vast range of roles. Obviously, people are more familiar with his work. Younger generation might not be as familiar with Dilip Kumar's work.

I just think that both have ruled the film industry for a long time, it's just that as I grew up I watched Big B as a lead and only saw DK doing the chracter roles. DK was big with my parents generation when he was the lead. No doubt they are both legends and sorry but SRK is a mosquito compare to BIG B, however I do like him as well.

Dilip Sahab had a very unique style...he was sort of an actor that was like the calm in the midst of the turmoil...but you could see the flames burning underneath, and they would come out...OH would they ever come out!

Think of it as us humans having issues with God, wondering why isn't he here when we have problems. Bc he has a law too that he can't break. Guys, there's a reason why he shot his son. You can see how he was tested to by the law for he had to live by it. If Dilip were to break it, then he would be corrupt by the law. Nothing is more painful than knowing to shoot your own blood. On top of that Dilip didn't know that he heard that conversation on the phone. If he did then he MORE LIKELY would have not said anything. But you know, the choice would be either risking other people's lives or sacrificing one to prevent from more crime.

Scene is there in the film where Dilip Saab is running after Amitabh at the airport and Dilip Saab warns him and Amitabh sees backwards and they see each other and Amitabh again starts running. Amitabh writes that as soon as he saw in eyes of Dilip saab he missed his next action and hence after few retakes scene was finalized by director Ramesh Sippy.

If only they knew acting is not war, its not even sport, where the winner is declared. Acting is not about destroying the other person (thats bad acting) what sort of people go to movie to see SRK destroy AB or DK destroy AB? Acting is all about doing justice to a role. If DK did great justice then he is not a legend for no reason, so he deserves. AB has done great movies in past and recently from social angle (Black), which is what all great actors should do after becoming commercial success.

Now this is just a movie and two great and talented actors did their bit in the movie. DK and AB cannot be compared-firstly they belonged to different eras and secondly comparing them is not being fair 2 either of them. People who compare them are mainly doing it for their own egos(unfortunately Indo-Pak, hindu-muslim spill over). Most of them are arm chair experts. Its like little kids arguing 'My dad can beat your dad'. Guys, enjoy the movies and stop fighting to prove your points.

Please please please people! Stop mentioning even the name of Shahrukh Khan. That nautanki-wallah is nowhere close to AB and Dilip Kumar. He can do hamming and overacting and teardrops rolling down the cheeks, but restrained method acting?...no way! You're better off with Aamir Khan...

I am a huge fan of Amitabh and enjoyed this movie. Both gave great performances but in my opinion Dilip Kumar was slightly better. It was fantastic to see these two actors together in one movie. Actually I don't really care who was better, I just enjoyed the movie with these two icons. In the same way I try to enjoy a movie with SRK and Amitabh. Why hate? I rather choose to enjoy it.

This is one of my favorite movies. Amitabh did a fabulous job just as did Dilip. Dilip had the meatier role in this movie therefore he outshined Amitabh. It is not a fair comparison. Amitabh has done as good work as Dilip in umpteen movies i.e. Deewar, Chupke Chupke, Silsila, Cheeni Kum, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Sarkar, (I have not seen Sarkar Raj as yet), etc, etc. They are both consummate professionals and if the director and the script calls for it they tone it down.

I totally agree with Faiz. Dilip Saheb had a much more author backed role than Amitabh did in this movie. However, I think Amitabh held more than his own against Dilip Saheb. Any other actor would have been completely over-shadowed by Dilip saheb in that role.

did u know that a great deal of this movie was changed specialy the final scene which orignaly is filmed dilip chasing amitabh in a helicopter and amitabh is in a stolen police car and dilip says some lyrics in the scene which amitabh thought that cud harm his reputation at the time so amitabh insisted to the director that the seen shud be altered and also dilip agreed it cud harm his career. yes dilip rips him apart in the final scene he says "u r beneath me u cant get anywhere".

As far as I know there was cold war started between these two great actors. The scene was camera focused between the dilip kumar legs when he visited the lockup to see amitabh. Amitabh was sitting with the wall & he watched him. Now dilip was standing in front of him & he was sitting and watching him. The director showed the amitabh from the centre of legs. Amitabh demanded delete the scene while dilip disagree. That was a fact, therefore they didn't appeared after this film.

interesting thing to note is this film was a FLOP, why????????maybe bachan's fans could bear to watch bachan getting ripped apart by the GENIUS and hence bachan fans maybe boycotted this film and the end result was a BOX OFFICE FLOP.

well sohneya1 the movie was not realy a box office flop it just did not live up to its expections, ramesh sippy was the film director who had done sholay which eveyone knows and needs know intro. did u know that dilip kumar was offered the role of thakur in sholay but he refused it because he wanted to change the script he didnt want the takurs hands to get chopped of by gaber singh he wanted the story to be that 3 guys go out to hunt gaber rather than 2 .
