If you have family that are willing to help it helps a lot. My parents helped me pay for rehab when i went. Rehab doesn't always work though, it didn't for me, but i got clean on my own and have been clean for over a year. Opiate addiction sucks, but if someone has the will to quit they can. I did it and i know many others who also have.
I hate AA and NA. It pisses me off, any treatment program you do trys to drill the 12 steps into your head. They act like the 12 steps is the only possible way for you to stay sober, and if you don't go to a stupid ass meeting everyday you aren't going to stay sober. Well, fuck that. I don't go to NA or AA meetings and I've been off heroin for a year. I did this without one meeting.Those meetings just make me dwell on my past, which isn't healthy for anyone.

This is a great song that seems to get slagged by reviewers of Dirt. I think it is because it is a very progressive rock song (for AIC) that doesn't fit as a straight rocker or ballad. Certainly one of the more compositionally complex songs they did.
I love Nirvana but I also love Alice in Chains also, but for 2 different reasons and plus theryre 2 different genres. so you can really make a comparison.
But I see what you are saying people think "Grunge is cool, Nirvana is the best!" but have never taken the time to listen to an Alice in Chains or Mother love bone album.

I used to go to the Seattle clubs and listen to these bands before they took off and could not believe how good they were compared to what was mainstream at the time, and I never once heard the term grunge, It was a made up word record companies started using to sell CDs because of the way we all dress up to stay warm around here. and we dress the same way right now and still have the same bands at the clubs that makes stuff like rap look like the joke that it is.
To like some music is also to understand it and I dont mean lyrics here, I mean in general. Its something that speaks to you or it doesnt. I hate techno but I dont go to techno videos starting mean arguements there and being agressive. Its just WEIRD. And grunge is at least about something ;)
and understanding the music can go so much arther that understanding the lyrics too. lets say none of you know about layne's drug addictions, sure you would understand the lyrics and be like, whoa thats deep, but once you know about layne stayley as a person even without the song, it adds so much more to the music in general. it adds a whole new dimension to it
I'd say most of the major grunge bands are pretty deep. Pearl Jam did it with songs like Jeremy and This Is Not For You, STP did it with their first two albums (weiland just moved into glam lyrical stretches after that), Nirvana's In Utero is sickly emotional, Soundgarden moved into it by the time Superunknown came around, and Alice In Chains was almost ALWAYS emotional and deep.

I'm not hating. Just disagreeing and sharing my story as you share yours. Age ain't a factor, I'm just glad I was scared of needles and didnt shoot the dilly. Had a painful infection in my nut /w 18mos clean. 2 toradol shot might as well have been saline. They pushed 4mg of dilly with an antihistamine for the itchies through my IV. The nurse had only put like 1/2 the shot in and my pain was gone and i was feeling great. Called my sponsor and told him I understood why people shoot now. good luck

Layne was an amazing singer and writer (although he gets far too much credit for Cantrell's work), but he certainly is no one I would calla hero. He beautifully described a decent in a hell I would wish on no one. I truly hope he has found the peace in death that he so desperately sought, but always eluded him, in life. He even said something in an interview about everything he ever wrote about drugs being about how bad they fuck your life up and to stay away.

Dude, I had almost four years clean when I started drinking socially again. I blew my back out and I've been on low dose narcotics ever since. I've been ostracized from almost all of the people I knew in NA, including my former sponsor because I am in so much pain constantly I can only stand it with the help of pain meds. Being a former opioid addict who has to take opioids every fucking day (not even at MMT or BMT doses) is a special hell. I was on death's door when I got clean.
I said he described a life of hell in a beautiful manner. I have great respect for him as an artist, but I don't consider him a hero. A gifted artist and a man who struggled with a tragic illness for a long time. But not a hero. Judge me however you want. I have peace with myself today. I hope you find that. Most addicts never do.

When I was 16 I was snorting 60-80mg of dilaudid (almost always off the cover of dirt) along with 1600-2400mg oxy and ~20mg of ativan for about a year. I kicked that shit but kept going. right around when I was 21 I came off a bad binge of e and opiates, along with a hefty amount of benzos and got clean. I weighed in at 92lbs. Every kick was on my own. AiC is still some of the first music to come out during rough times. But I don't look at but I dont look at Layne as a hero.
Eric Clapton's Tears in Heaven, that is a heroic song. I don't remember how long he had sober when he wrote it, but I doubt I could handle my daughter dying clean. But he did. One day when I was still clean (b4 my back problems) and everything was going wrong. Management coming in like every five seconds with a new request or asking us to redo what we just did differently because they told us to so it wrong. Tears in Heaven came on, and i thought this guy handled this clean, I can handle today

I love Nirvana but I also love Alice in Chains also, but for 2 different reasons and plus theryre 2 different genres. so you can really make a comparison.
But I see what you are saying people think "Grunge is cool, Nirvana is the best!" but have never taken the time to listen to an Alice in Chains or Mother love bone album.

Nirvana has that distinct punky sound. However people were stupid when they classified Alice In Chains and Nirvana as grunge. I used to go to the Seattle clubs and listen to these bands before they took off and could not believe how good they were compared to what was mainstream at the time, and I never once heard the term grunge, It was a made up word record companies started using to sell CDs because of the way we all dress up to stay warm around here. and we dress the same way right now and still have the same bands at the clubs that makes stuff like rap look like the joke that it is.

I'd say most of the major grunge bands are pretty deep. Pearl Jam did it with songs like Jeremy and This Is Not For You, STP did it with their first two albums (weiland just moved into glam lyrical stretches after that), Nirvana's In Utero is sickly emotional, Soundgarden moved into it by the time Superunknown came around, and Alice In Chains was almost ALWAYS emotional and deep.

I'm not hating. Just disagreeing and sharing my story as you share yours. Age ain't a factor, I'm just glad I was scared of needles and didnt shoot the dilly. Had a painful infection in my nut /w 18mos clean. 2 toradol shot might as well have been saline. They pushed 4mg of dilly with an antihistamine for the itchies through my IV. The nurse had only put like 1/2 the shot in and my pain was gone and i was feeling great. Called my sponsor and told him I understood why people shoot now. good luck

Layne was an amazing singer and writer (although he gets far too much credit for Cantrell's work), but he certainly is no one I would calla hero. He beautifully described a decent in a hell I would wish on no one. I truly hope he has found the peace in death that he so desperately sought, but always eluded him, in life. He even said something in an interview about everything he ever wrote about drugs being about how bad they fuck your life up and to stay away.

Dude, I had almost four years clean when I started drinking socially again. I blew my back out and I've been on low dose narcotics ever since. I've been ostracized from almost all of the people I knew in NA, including my former sponsor because I am in so much pain constantly I can only stand it with the help of pain meds. Being a former opioid addict who has to take opioids every fucking day (not even at MMT or BMT doses) is a special hell. I was on death's door when I got clean.

When I was 16 I was snorting 60-80mg of dilaudid (almost always off the cover of dirt) along with 1600-2400mg oxy and ~20mg of ativan for about a year. I kicked that shit but kept going. right around when I was 21 I came off a bad binge of e and opiates, along with a hefty amount of benzos and got clean. I weighed in at 92lbs. Every kick was on my own. AiC is still some of the first music to come out during rough times. But I don't look at but I dont look at Layne as a hero.

Eric Clapton's Tears in Heaven, that is a heroic song. I don't remember how long he had sober when he wrote it, but I doubt I could handle my daughter dying clean. But he did. One day when I was still clean (b4 my back problems) and everything was going wrong. Management coming in like every five seconds with a new request or asking us to redo what we just did differently because they told us to so it wrong. Tears in Heaven came on, and i thought this guy handled this clean, I can handle today
