with my old powershot , there where different modes on a dial...if you used the video setting you could only use auto-focus but if you set the dial to 'Manual' you could use manual focus after pressing record...
@vim92 hit the menu when in video mode and you will see options to disable or enable autofocus during the shot. But the autofocus is pretty bad.. and loud.

Autofocus in photoshooting is no problem, but in video I don't know how!
