LOL that is odd. Never heard of a velo being pulled, kudos to you for being calm and polite, I think I'd probably get a little annoyed after a couple of times, LOL.
Next time you get a citation try and get on Judge Judy so we can all see it thrown out of court. :-D
That can make a difference. I'm not a gutter-bunny, and often take the lane, but I'm also fortunate to have a few roads with extra wide bike lanes or shoulders.
Actually, yesterday was the closest I've come to being pulled over. Just out riding through town, managed to get on the route for the parade before the county fair. Realized it once I saw the sidewalks lined with people. Didn't realize I was only about 2 minutes before the parade started. An officer at an intersection didn't like that.
If you were riding a velomobile, the spectators might have thought you were part of the parade!
I've discovered that I prefer the higher speed, multi-lane roadways now, as it gives me a narrower lane and gives other road users at least one extra lane in which to pass safely.
On the narrow two-lane roads, I will pull over to let traffic proceed when it's safe to do so.
Were there no signs indicating road closures for the parade?
At the start of my velomobile riding, I was a stripe-rider, a gutter-bunny, an inferiority cyclist. I still was stopped two or three times during that period. Now I operate in the center of the traffic lane, which is legal in FL on the roads on which I operate. Many police officers are not aware of the law and choose to interpret in such a way as to initiate a traffic stop. It's the safest method to ride and it's legal, proven by my dismissed citations.
I've received two citations, both dismissed prior to going to court, by filing a motion to dismiss. Those tickets were from the same city as this officer and the other officers were Rambo-wannabees, as they certainly had some attitude problems. I do my best to be polite while explaining that I'm not violating any laws and operating in the safest manner possible, but some officers don't listen well.
stop #17 was the most meaningless one yet, as the officer told me that people were calling in to complain, yet he recognized that I was not in violation. the other stops run the gamut, from totally ignorant cops to a deputy sheriff who looked up the statutes and recognized I was not in violation, and said, "I learned something new today, drive safe".
It was a surprise to me, but you're right. It's good to run into someone like that now and then. Not run into as in collide, though!

There's really no one inside, it's "one of those remote controlled road-testing machines".
That's what one person told me.

That's funny!! The things people come up with! :D Has anyone heard of a remote controlled road-testing machine? I haven't, that's a new one on me!

lol Rock on!
I'm pretty sure you're well known at the sheriff office now. Which is a good thing! :) The more cops on your side the merrier!

I think the usual phrase is gutter nutter, at least here in the UK.

18? Geez... Been going nearly a year with mine now, no stops at all. Don't have the mileage that you do, but still...

Some states have different laws.

WOW! He seemed like a pretty decent fellow. Cool.
How does this compare to the other 17 traffic stops?
