my insurance for a wrecker like that is $12,000/year, per truck, full year paid upfront. I have been driving for almost 20 years, have only ever gotten 1 speeding ticket(20KM over), AND I have a friggin DZ license. Go with the flatbed unless you're going to live in that truck 24/7 and make cash with it.
wrecker doesnt have the clamps on the arm. its a manual unit. not a snatch and go like i have on my ford. should be able to get it at a decent price. insurance can be high on trucks like that though. depending on how you use it. insure it fully and open up hauling accident cars. damn good money or parking lot towoffs. you could prolly stop your other job chris.
bloke my best openion is if you play on getting a tow truck get a flat bed, MUCH easier its got everything the truck you were looking at plus more and its alot easier loading and unloading cars
@StandByMySide450R Eh?, or ay :p lol. Eh, a typical northern north america and canadian thing. liek others have. huh or somethign else some had suggested that it is used to check if people were listening to what was beign said. course you know this. i was just saying in case others did not.
I'd look for a rollback truck Bloke. They still have the wheel lift on the back and you can tow 2 cars at once plus if you have a car with stuck brakes, flat tires or just simply doesn't roll, you can just winch it up on the back, safety chain it off and away you go. Heck with snatch blocks you can pull cars around obstacles.
Looks pretty cool. In snow and ice, usually you're better off with a smaller footprint. On the other hand, if you get knobly tyres that has a similar effect. It's also going to be very heavy with the hydraulics and such, so that won't help with understeer in the snow either.
@ zippy1one we do not all say eh, to be honest blokes the most I've ever heard someone say eh. We say eh as a confirmation to something instead of saying yes. We also use it as a " the weathers nice today eh" as a what do you think?. We are candians, we know how and when to use eh. So for GOD SAKE it's not after every sentence. Btw I am Canadian ftw
Bloke, the hook thing you mentioned was for a sling. Be forewarned that insurance will be considerable if your just going to use this for personal use, also alot of areas charge a fee to maintain a tow operators license, I'm not meaning the license to drive the truck. Here in Michigan a unit like that just requires a chauffeurs to drive it. Check all local laws before seriously considering this option.
Ive never had problems with my towtruck in snow, in fact, i even plow with it and its 2wd. The insurance is pretty expensive, when I started with my 1st wrecker, i paid over $600/month. you really need to make money
No bussiness then it ain't a write off.........its cash out of pocket unless your towing for triple AAA....you'll never get what Y paid for it..Back..CAuse the repairs are HUGE.AND THE LIABILTY IF YOUR TOW DECIDES TO FALL OFF...stick with the trailer..Bloke..
Why do you guys say EH! at the end of every sentence? Did you learn to speak from someone who had tourettes syndrome? Do most of the teachers in Canada have "Tourettes".
@Zippy1one hes from england eh!!! im not really sure why or how he ended up in canada eh but i think its cool how he talks eh!!! but i can see how it wold get on someones nerves sometimes eh..
@97chevyblazeron31s Good answer, eh!!! Thanks for taking the time to respond eh.. I tried it out in actuall convesation here where I am from in the states.. eh!! and people just looked at me with a confused look on their face and asked if I was OK. eh!!! Maybe my sentence structure was off by a little bit..eh!! Going to have to go to Canada school to learn english proper..eh!!
@Zippy1one i was listening to a rap station the other day and in this damn song they kept on saying eh eh eh if i hear it again ill google it ill let u know what is is so u can hear it
@HunterAtheist The more you hang out with Canadians the more you start sounding like them. I went to Toledo Ohio for 3 months and when I come back people said that I talked different. But I didn't see it. I never ask what culture the people from around there was but they did have a little bit of a slang when they talked and they talked kind of fast.
nice GMC truck ,its a good setup for a towtruck, i perfer the flatbeds though , use to use one in california "GMC" model that was on a full size truck frame with jerr dan bed , it was big enough that we loaded full armored trucks on the bed,not many flatbeds can do that, made nice side money towing those beast on the side, they had the money to tip good too ,the truck was my friends and we towed for GM daewoo dealers and roadside assistence/hwy tows&,police impounds
The wrecker there is ok, but what would be better is called an auto-loader. We run that style with the company I work for. The main problem with having a tow truck is you need a NSC number, you can not tow your own vehicles and you have to have a tow company to actually use it as a tow truck. If you don't have your own tow company, then the truck is just a pickup with no bed, and you can not legally tow anything (including a trailer because you need a frame hitch, not a boom hitch)
Jerr-Dann is the most popular wrecker in the U.S. and they make darnn good bodies... If you check out wreckingcars72 channel it will show you how to build a wrecker out of your old farm truck...I'm sure Dave would help...he always loves a challenge...SMR
Bloke, only one legal issue you may not be aware about when towing. To the best of my knowledge, if the vehicle's back wheels are on the ground, then it must be licensed and insured as well! No joke, it's cause it's not off the road like how it is when on your trailer. I'm in Ottawa, and I'm sure this rule is throughout Ontario at least. Check that out just to be sure, but I'm almost positive on that.
Hey Bloke, I have thought about owning a tow truck many times. I'm the same age as you and honestly we would probably be better off owning a used flatbed truck. You can get a pretty nice one, maybe 7 or 8 year's old for about 25 - 30K. This would have full set of hydraulics to operate the bed up/down, in/out, wench, lot's of lights, dual axle, diesal engine, a/c in the cab, etc... Allot less work for a 50 year old. Check out used trucks at Ryder. Also talk to your bud Andrew Canadacatalyst.
@Mattman7342 Why do you say that? Ive owned Dodge,Ford, Chevy and they have all been pretty good up to about 200k miles, please do your research before you commit to any one brand. Don't buy a truck off of what your buddies tell you.
Make sure you check out what they want to insure it first as they will charge you an arm and leg when they find out it is a towtruck. Your better off sticking to the trailer
Buy it I own a Duramax and I love it I have owned all the big 3 diesels and I love my Duramax the best just make sure its got the allison trans that truck will probably run you 23-28k unless the guy is desperate then you could possibly get a deal
