Kids look to adults for everything. Even ideals and thoughts that they shouldn't look towards. If you support racist ideals, your kid will most likely have racist. Kind of like how a son will most likely choose a wife that is like his mother, and how a daughter will most likely choose a husband that is like her dad. They look to their parents for guidance and information. Kids are easily influenced.

This test is absurd. The child is only displaying a natural survival trail shared by all humans.When asked positive traits she picks the doll she thinks "looks like me", an obvious reflection of her sense of thinking she is smart, nice, not ugly. When asked negative traits she chooses a doll far removed from her, a reflection of saying I am not dumb, mean, or ugly. She is selecting a doll to represent her, and basing her choices on which doll does/doesn't reflect herself.

This test and others like it are not real science, they do not take into consideration the many other factors. I also cannot fully explain beyond the obvious why the children chosen by the film makers chose the right color for the message they were trying to give. If their sample was large enough and diverse enough to be credible, and their display of the results was unbiased you would see more than just the results that agree with the message...

This study is obviously biased as they don't want to test black children who would also show bias towards their own race. In fact science has proven it, that our brains have been biologically built with repitalian attributes which makes us more trustworthy and more at ease with people who look more like us. This is common with all people and all of us must learn to overcome this. However, it seems that some people believe that only white people have a responsiblity to overcome this trait.
Wrong. Look up the ORIGINAL doll test. It was done only on black children and they showed the same results as white children... They favored white dolls.
Actually I was right. The original doll test, done recently showed that black children preferred the black dolls. In fact, one girl said (I am paraphrasing) she did not like the white doll because she thought that the white doll was racist (automatic assumptions of racism based on color is also racism and cannot be jfairly ustified). Furthermore, one black boy pointed to one of the white dolls when asked to point to the dumb child. It is within this CNN study.

That's a flawed study. This child is way too young to understand the concepts and consequences of racial bias. She chose the "good" and "pretty" light skinned kid because that is familiar to her and who she identifies with. She also was not given the choice to assume that NONE of these kids were bad or ugly. She HAD to pick one, so she did. I bet if you put her in a class mixed with numerous other races, she'd mix and mingle just like any other normal kid who likes to play.

These children are reacting to color not race. Just like adults react to certain colors: when we think of fear we think of yellow. Anger; red..green; will, royalty..etc.. There you can download a PDF file by the New Century Foundation (NCF) on the subject. It's very informative. It might be a bit disturbing for the very young, so use discretion. This test is absurd. The child is only displaying a natural survival trail shared by all humans.When asked positive traits she picks the doll she thinks "looks like me", an obvious reflection of her sense of thinking she is smart, nice, not ugly. When asked negative traits she chooses a doll far removed from her, a reflection of saying I am not dumb, mean, or ugly. She is selecting a doll to represent her, and basing her choices on which doll does/doesn't reflect herself.

I also cannot fully explain beyond the obvious why the children chosen by the film makers chose the right color for the message they were trying to give. In fact science has proven it, that our brains have been biologically built with repitalian attributes which makes us more trustworthy and more at ease with people who look more like us. Actually I was right. The original doll test, done recently showed that black children preferred the black dolls. In fact, one girl said (I am paraphrasing) she did not like the white doll because she thought that the white doll was racist (automatic assumptions of racism based on color is also racism and cannot be jfairly ustified). Furthermore, one black boy pointed to one of the white dolls when asked to point to the dumb child. It is within this CNN study.

THey need to ask these kids which one is the smartest or are they all smart? If you only give a child this young one choice they aren`t old enough to realize there are other answers they can give. Of course if you give a small child one way to answer a question they will base it on their own self image...if they are a white child with low self esteem then they will most likely not pick the cartoon child that looks the same as them to be smart and vice versa.

dark to a child means bad, if someone n a cartoon is evil they are typically surrounded by dark colors and wears dark clothing. the people who are "good" in childrens shows tend to be wearing pastels, colored by brighter colors and surrounded by light colors. she probably figured she had to pick one, that she couldnt say "none of them" or "i dont know", and of course she wouldnt pick the one who looks like her as "the bad/ugly one" because shed be calling herself bad.

@cijackson1 at this age it really shouldnt matter, kids should be friends without having to think about such differences in each other. my point was this little girl wasnt being racist, she was being a child. even when they are older, race shouldnt be taught as such a huge issue that some people can use as a crutch and others be made to feel guilty about as it is now. it should be left out of a lot of scenarios all together and dismissed as unimportant when sizing a person up.

That's a flawed study. This child is way too young to understand the concepts and consequences of racial bias. She chose the "good" and "pretty" light skinned kid because that is familiar to her and who she identifies with. She also was not given the choice to assume that NONE of these kids were bad or ugly. She HAD to pick one, so she did. I bet if you put her in a class mixed with numerous other races, she'd mix and mingle just like any other normal kid who likes to play.

I think that mother has likely simply never thought very long about race issues (not having to, since she is white), so I'm glad that her family participated in this test, to open their eyes to how pervasive racism can be.

These children are reacting to color not race. Just like adults react to certain colors: when we think of fear we think of yellow. Anger; red..green; will, royalty..etc.. White is a more positive color then black. That is why funerals are associate with, black. Weddings; white . Black and white have different effects on how we feel. Kids want to be accepted , but the images they see make them fel they are not a good as the others. Focus on how the kids described themselves/their skin color as the color adults did not like. There you can download a PDF file by the New Century Foundation (NCF) on the subject. It's very informative. It might be a bit disturbing for the very young, so use discretion. dont make this about race..it is about color... look up at the test they did with adults on how people respond to colors..Dark colors almost always got negative response compared to light colors. The younger children are responding to the color not the people..it is about color, not race...I used to always watch CNN...i watch it less now. They are really disappointing me..
