Our 3 sibe's don't mind the heat, if it's over about 80-85F it bothers them after an hour or so but they don't rly mind anything below that. As long as they have some shade and water they are ok in warmer weather. The shedding is a little worsebut that's it.
Regards the sun/cool debate - our Husky loves to sunbathe in the summer but also loves to lie for hours in the snow. Our back door is always open so when she sunbathes it is her choice to go out there. We are in Scotland and have warm summers around 70 degrees but very harsh snowy winters (last 2 winters it has been waist deep). Other dogs we have had would never create themselves a bed out of snow like our Husky does.
Funny video! Don't know why anyone would post negative comments on here - too much time on their hands I suspect. Or just a very sad individual. Keep up the good work. Wish we had a pool for our Husky, but no chance in Scotland, lol. x
@buddhabread So you have a big St.Bernard or a Great Dane and keep it indoors because of heat? Do you ahve a dog? Clue in before posting crap retard because it just isn't possible
@buddhabread you're fucking retarded dumbass before you think you know what you're talking about do some research Siberian huskies adapt to the weather they are in and all dogs are meant to go outside fucking idiot
Huskies have double coat..undercoat for more warmth during cold seasons acts as an insulation..overcoat the long furs actually protects them from bug bites..keeps skin moist and prevents skin irritation and drying..since its longer it actually helps air through unlike the undercoat...when you use furminator it removes excess undercoat and helps them regulate temperature also keeps their coat healthy and prevents matting..once you shave a husky it ruins their coat. They are not meant to be shaved
I have a husky and we are currently located in the south. He manages well as long as he is hydrated and cooled off. He has access to water inside and outside the house and also has a cooling collar. He loves chewing ices and we use frozen liter of water for him to lay on if he wants to be more comfortable. We keep the central air on 24/7 at 65 as well. They are able to survive however shaving a husky is really bad for them..you can get a Furminator and comb their excess hair.
This is so cute, my siberian loves water like when im showering she loves to bite the water, or even if any sprinklers go on. She is good with baths but I so want to see how her reaction would be in a pool . they do the cutest things and this video is so darn cute lol
@buddhabread Dude. any animal's life span is shortened if they are left in the sun too long, but a little heat won't kill your dog earlier. I have a friend who lives in nevada and has a husky. Ivy is 14 years old and has always lived in my desert home. Ivy is outside for hours, but she has plenty of water and is shaved to help get rid of the excess heat. You obviously only did half of the research. Spend a bit more time studying nest time. and yes. My spelling is terrifying.
@buddhabread Actually, huskies love to run, regardless of the weather. In any case, it's unhealthy to keep ANY dog locked up indoors. Protecting your dog from TOO MUCH SUN is okay, but depriving them from the sun is not okay. The sun provides nutrients and actually gives people AND animals a longer life, because it is generally healthy for you. These dogs can shed and if the owner gives them water like they should, the dog will be perfectly fine.
I have a husky and we've lived in FL for a long time, but she honestly does not like the heat. Animals are prone to adapt to their surroundings, but these kinds of dogs are mostly winter/cold climate dogs. That's why they have such thick coats of fur. They can deal with the heat, yes, but they can actually get sick if they don't have enough water to cool them off during long hours in the heat. It's actually not healthy to leave ANY dog in the heat for too long.
@PadgeX Also, to add to my comment... Any kind of dog should always be brought outside for a little while, regardless of the weather. Just keep a bottle of water with you and the dog will be fine. Always remember to give your animals lots of water especially in the heat. You know, huskies are the descendants of wolves and wolves live in very hot climates as well. The heat won't kill them, but being out there for way too long can actually make them sick.
@buddhabread I think you may have your breeds mixed up. Our Huskies loved the heat almost as much as the cold. Lived very well and long. These are very strong, tough and adaptable dogs. Thats in the breed for a reason. They are able to shed heat and cool very well compared to most breeds. They have to be able maintain body temp for the never give up genetics built in for work. They are also very intelligent with strong survival instinct. They will not stay in the Sun to over heat.
So...its really safe to get a Husky, I live in the south and its pretty hot here and I don't want to get a husky where its feels like that he or she isn't adapted to hot weather.
@Soulrunner45 i also live in the south and i want husky so bad , but im scared for it to die because of the hot weathers :S did u get any information?
how old is Kai? To me hes still younger then when i saw him b4! ( i've watched alot of your videos so ik when he was younger and stuff cuz u told ppl! :D )
i think it depends on the huskie when it come to the heat...some can handle it...some cant...mine for instance, cannot. we have to keep him in the shade at all times...fans on, cold flannels on his face and paws and keep ice on hand for his water and for him to eat, Also the water based ice pops are great treats for huskies in the summer! My loki goes mad for them :) (sugar free ofcorse ^^)
yea, huskies can do really well in the heat. We leave our husky outside and the daytime and sum1 we kno has a husky who dusnt even get hot in heat bc he's in it all the time and he adapts to it
Briar2cute24, WOW never knew that too... i love husky but didn't want to buy it couse it's very hot in NY at summer and i don't want the dog to feel uncomfortable...
now i really thinking about husky... hope my daxy wouldn't mind ))
I hear people make comments all the time about huskies in the heat, they can withstand up to 60deg centigrade according to the Wikipedia page.
I guess people just think because they are good in the cold, they must be bad in the heat?? The white coat and the long hair reflects a lot of the sun's heat, so I think they fare better than a black lab or other dark colored dog would. My boys love to sun bathe!
