  • @Brit1234ish If you haven't read his book, "Whiskey River" it is a good read gives you some powerful insight into his music some of his life's challenges. He does explain an issue with his voice that almost cratered his career and how he overcame it. He did have to change the way he sings...but remember he is 76 years old and keeping it together!

  • Wow, even with the poor sound quality I can tell this band is totally smoking.

I especially love the song played at this pace Willie's rock version is good, but it's a drinking song, it needs a lazy sound.

  • Pete Drake? I agree. He was one of the best in Nashville and under-estimated and under-credited. His style was so great.

  • Yes, K.C.Steeler; you guys mentioned my all time greatest steel picker, Pete Drake. It was always my belief that Pete wasn't treated the best by the steel guitar community, in general. But he surely was utilized by the studios and definitely loved by we staunch steel guitar players and lovers of same. Still my # one of the great country music musicians.I think I still have his talking machine [ copy, there-of ] Bernie

  • Whom is the man playing steel: does a fantastic job; Would it be Johnny Cox? They do a great job on Whiskey River..

  • The steel player is Bobby DeMoss from Kansas City. All the backup musicians are local. Johnny was traveling without a band headed to St. Louis for the International Steel Guitar Convention, so he stopped off in Kansas City to give us a great show- 2 long sets with the band, and an unplugged set just Johnny Bush with his guitar. Great show to remember.

  • I forgot, Johnny even played the drums a little with the band after the show. What fun was had by all!

  • Bush is O.K. but has lost a lot compared to what he was 30 years ago. Elijah Chastain in the King !!!

  • Yep, Elijah does a knockout job on lead guitar on this one. Lot of talent on stage to back Johnny that night.

  • My x boyfriend asked for this song at the bar one night to celebrate his anniversary. Ha ha! We all loved Johnny Bush so much.

  • I'm just sad that we can't hear the bass all that well. I'm sure it sounded GREAT! HA!!! I was the bass player....

  • hey AJ, if you want to hear bass, then go to kcbassman's site, this is kcsteeler's site ! I listened real close and did hear you. I need to get a bass solo from you some time.

  • OH man this guy is THE master of Honky Tonk music. One of my all-time heroes. Long live this man's legacy! GOD BLESS JOHNNY BUSH!

  • i just ready book it was great just found you on here love your singing.pete was one of my gretest fans he recorded me just to be recording love you johnny dave rich

  • Hey Mr. Dave Rich, You are the greatest ! Thanks for mentioning the great steel player Pete Drake.

  • Boy does this bring back memories. Dance Town U.S.A. in Houston Tx. The Chief still has the ol razzle dazzle...
