@goraisan I don't recall if he went over this in the Kobudo portion of Samurai Spirit. We did something similar when I was training in a form of ninjutsu. We would do this as we bowed in and out of class. However we did it in seiza instead of standing up and say a loud prayer in Japanese after the silent one. My sensei said the claps were ment to drive away demons. It was ment for the dojo but could be similar in this case. I could send you the document my sensei sent me by email if ya want.

I am not sure about the two claps? but I think it has something to do with making the God's and Sosai pay attention when you are praying?
