  • I beleive that commercial was actually from 1973 or 74 as iI remember it but it did stay on TV rotation til the end of the 70s. I also remember the cranky koala bear with the quote" I hate Quantas"

  • I loved Western Airlines. I wish they were still in business.

  • Ah yes commercial made back in the day when it was a pleasure to fly. Now, it's a pain where you're nickeled and dimed to death.

  • Thanks for a blast from the past. Paul in KCRP :-)

  • Does anyone remember Western Airline's jingle "You get three feet for your two legs on Western Airlines"? I am looking for a Western Airlines commercial that has it.

  • wow...nice memories. worked for them back in the 70s/80s.

  • I so recall this one!! Thanks a bunch!!!

  • I TOTALLY REMEMBER THIS COMMERCIAL FROM WHEN I WAS A KID BACK THEN!!! :D

  • No, this isn't Backus. The older ads in black and white featured Jim Backus's voice. The voice here is Sheperd Menken I believe.

  • This is remarkable. Pizza on a flight ? Can´t believe that pizza out of a steamer is tasty... Anyhow this commercial is special. I would say that "Western Airlines" was an original like TWA and AA. I´am sorry they are not excisting anymore.

  • @Slaterator In a way they do exist. Western was merged and fully intergrated in to Delta Airlines in 1987. Many of the staff remain, especially at LAX, Western headquarters and main hub. I was with with WAL for a very short period 04-79 to 12-79.

  • @tonybklyn

Oh that´s good to know there are still some "originals" working. Thank´s for the information !

  • To piercethevale, somebody told me Jim Bachus(spelling?)( Mr. Howell on Gilligans Island, Mr Magoo.) but I'm not sure. Doesn't sound like him to me. Was that where coffee beans jingle was from?

  • @csd733

Do you mean "Coffee beans CHA, CHA, CHA"?

  • Oh wow!

Haven't seen this tv commerical in 30 years(since the last time during the early '80s when I was just a young kid).

  • I'm with "reebiebaby" I'd really like to see the 'coffee beans' commercial. Like reebiebaby, my wife & I sing that one at least weekly.

  • someone removed my comment asking about the "Coffee beans, cha cha cha...coffee beans, cha cha cha...the richest coffee beans...cha cha cha..."

Does anyone have access to this one? It was my favorite. I still sing that coffee bean song.

  • Funny, I still have yet to be served PIZZA on a plane! These days it seems very unlikely!

  • Thanks for posting that. My parents used to try and guess which cities were coming up on the tail.

  • I wish there were more of these out there. I sing, "Coffee beans cha cha cha" too!

  • @lobinho56 @catman351 I loved that commercial! I still sing, "coffee beans, cha cha cha, coffee beans, cha cha cha, the richest coffee beans, cha cha cha..."

  • @reebiebaby DITTO on that one!! :-) Funny thing is I still do the "cha cha cha coffeebean song" when I'm making coffee in the morning. One of those things that sticks with you from childhood to old age! :-)

  • @tonybklyn How does it connect with Western Airlines, was it about Waking Up???

  • @sweetredredwine No...back in the day Western actually had fresh grounded coffee on their flights, I know, cuz I served quite a bit of it. Funny thing, Western was my first REAL job (not counting those teen jobs in MickyD's and Pizza hut), it was the most laid back and fun place to work. 8 months after I started at Western I was offered a position with Pan Am, and if you know anything about the golden age of travel, you didn't turn down Pan Am. :-)

  • Bring back Wally to be the Delta Airlines spokesbird!

  • This apparently was from the same year that a pretty bad crash happened for these guys on Flight 2605 I think.

  • @tall32guy

yes, western airlines, the only way to fly....except when you try to

    land on a closed runway.

  • @heathirving Indeed. LOL

  • Please, if you could find the Western Airlines commercial that has "coffee beans, cha-cha-cha..." that would absolutely make my day. That was a great commercial as it had a very catchy hook to it.

  • MY dad used to fly on that

  • I'm looking for the version that featured the steward singing "coffee beans cha-cha-cha coffee beans cha-cha-cha..." Anyone know where it could be found.

  • @catman351

Where"s the ...."coffee beans cha-cha-cha coffee beans cha-cha-cha..."

  • @5superjoe

YES YES YES - that was the greatest. IF ANYONE has access to the coffee beans cha cha cha commercial, please for the love of god post it here!!! (for the last 30 years, I can't hear the words 'coffee beans' without adding the "cha cha cha"... haha)

  • I remember this during the 1970's.. So cool!!

  • wasn't "The Only way to fly" first used in a WB cartoon called "jet Cage"?

Just seen it today and heard Tweety say the now famous line.

  • Great campaign. It was only a regional carrier , but the slogan became famous and ended up as a punch line for jokes told by people who never saw the ads.

  • Who did the animation. Defate-Frieling?

  • DFE Films.

  • My Uncle worked for them....You did not have to pay for extra bags and you got free food..Not like today....

  • I love Wallybird. He is funny. Gotta love Western

  • other destinations include, Phoenix, Tucson, San Diego, Burbank, Long Beach, Reno, Las VEgas, Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Sacramento, Omaha etc.

  • My late father used to work for Western, and later Delta after the merger. Brings back nice memories. Thanks!

  • when i lived in Idaho falls as a kid western and Hughes Airwest was the only way to fly to boise and phoenix

  • Do I remember this!

  • Wally! It's been years!

  • Thank you! I miss Wally and his little buddy.

  • Bravo, bravisimo!

Its a commercial not showed in my country, its so funny, and great!

    I miss Western very much.

  • Thanks for this. The family used to try to guess which cities would pop up at the end.

  • Thanks for the nice comments everyone. I hope to find similar things from tapes I recorded in 1987.

  • I so remember this, hoping like hell somebody would find it and post it, thanks dude!

  • Thanks for finding and posting this!! I'd looked on YouTube before with no success. I remember this so well from my childhood.

  • Yep,that is the famous WALly Bird and those were the words spoken by the astronauts from space.

  • I started at Western Airlines YYC 1981

  • A different time back then when working for the airlines was a big deal. You taking me back.

  • This is the FIRST time this has been on! Just like the Mr. Bubble commercial.....A CLASSIC!

  • Was this Wally bird?

  • I believe that is what he was called.

  • @phillop51 I ate him

  • This is my all-time favorite airline! Hope there'll be more videos soon.....
