  • im not sure about any of what he said... like when peter listened to that british news on radio...

  • all of these are DEMOLITION DERBY CARS!!!

  • I would have that escort anyway.

  • fuckoff quentin you sideways talking mother fucker

  • Well luckily none of these are sold in the USA. I guess you Brits will buy anything!

  • @Q1KLT1 oh you idiot americans also buy and make alot of shite cars

  • DAT ASS of that woman :)

  • @marlb0r0 no,fiat multipla is the ugliest car if all time

  • Most ugly cars of this time

1: renault avantime (wear eye protection when looking for it)

    2:fiat multipla (bleeaugghhh vomit)

    3: dacia logan (puke)

  • Should Have Been A Renault Mégane MK1 And A Proton 12v In THIS CLIP

  • Ford Scorpio

    Rover 100

    Nissan Serena

    Volvo 440

    Ford Escort Convertible

    Nissan Tourano

  • All cars depreciate horribly in the first few years. Even a car that "holds its value" will be worth about half what you paid for it in 5 years. All the cars he shows here are cheap econoboxes. They didn't cost a lot to begin with, and they ain't worth much after a few years.

  • @robertplattbell1

not to sound like an ass, but you should realize that he means they depreciate more than most. Lets face it, not many cars since the days of the FSO Polonez depreciate to 1/2 value in 1 year.

  • @bullet50000 Yes, but on the other hand, depreciation is only a part of the overall cost of ownership. I own BMWs, and they don't depreciate much, the first few years, at least. However, the overall cost of ownership is 2-5 times many of the cars shown in this report. Not that I am trading the M Roadster for a Nissan Van anytime soon. But the cars he profiles could be appropriate and economical rides for some folks.

  • The report is just like any one of a number of "crap cars" types of articles - pick out some lame rides and then make fun of them. Picking apart the Vega or Chevette ain't hard to do. But funny thing, though, those are the types of cars people buy the most - the ones you see populating the highways. Then they go off to the crusher, unloved. We laugh at them, but they make up the bulk of the auto industry and the auto fleet.

  • Wilson was a good reporter

  • "Park it next to a Discovery, Range Rover or a Jeep, and it'll look like just what it is - just another wanna-be offroader."

I liked that one! My friends had one of those, and I absolutely hated it.

  • sounds like clarksons presesnting style

  • all the people i no that own terranos use them for pulling and they all pull over 3 tons with them

  • i'm nineteen and drove a 1994 volvo 440 for over a year and loved it as did my friends because it looked like an old lady's car and still had a spoiler and drove like a gti it was fast well handeling and people still miss it now that I drive a c30 because it did everything right and nothing could go wrong because it was so old

  • @emiel1992, My father had a C30 1.8D and he had a massive crash on a wet road with me and my 9 year-old daughter in the car, and you can see y it's a Euro NCAP 5-star safety rating.

  • @Ferrari73703

No i cant see anything here, just what your typing.

  • Rover 100?

I got one and I like it!

  • So what is he a legend for? That smart-arse look and attitude? The squeaky/irritating voice? People like him and tiff needel make me wanna smash my tv.

  • metro past their sell by date????

ive got a gtise and it pwns allsorts, vtecs 318s allsorts

you have past your use by date

  • What a tosser QW is!!! glad he's not on Tv anymore..

  • i have never seen that 1st ford b4

  • @bobthebuilder6938

2 reason, 1, if you aren't from Europe, it is because they only sold it in Europe. if you are, it is because the car didn't sell very well, thanks to the styling, and the fact that it cost the same as a BMW 325i.

  • Huh, no French car?

    Perfect!!!

  • i drove a slowly disintegrating 440 until water started to enter the cylinders.

Pretty spacious on the inside, but I was always scared shit that something vital would break and kill me.

  • ive had an mg metro and 4 escorts no probs

  • Am I the only one whos not completely turned off by the design of the Scorpio?

  • @AnonymoussourceL0L

No, you're not the only one - it's a beauty compared to motors like the Nissan Juke and Toyota Prius!

  • @jmmullarkey1, I like the Juke, but compared to the Prius, you're right!

  • The Scorpio is ugly, but has a good suspension and a good engine.

I won a Rover 100 Cabrio in a casino and I like it.

The Serena is slow, ugly, and unsafe, but drives well.

There is no big problem with the Escort and the Volvo 440

    And the Terrarno is Ok.

Toyota Prius? Lada Samara? Where are those?

  • @Ferrari73703 sure that serena looks ugly slow etc, but u should take a look at the new ones, the 2 litre drves well..

  • bloke talks like a fuckin muppet.

  • Why is he talking like that...? Sounds like David Mitchel on crack

  • why put stevie wonder???? what a twat, no wonder he is in shitty 5th gear.

  • FUCK YOU, WHY THIS CARS ARE BAD? FUCK YOUR UNO 1.0 MF.

  • Quentin Wilson was and probably still is a class a Cunt

  • and YOU GUYS thought top gear is the best thing ever, see the original top gear wasn't the best, so just remember to think about this when watching the top gear America.

  • @alexander1485, It's not as good as the new one, but back then, and I know this because I watch TopGear since the very beggining, and I tell you: New TopGear is as good as old TopGear in its days.

  • ford escort = CHAVMOBILE

  • OMG! This is disgusting! I mean the guy and the car as well.

  • Every time I see Quentin Willson makes me wonder if he was a member of Huey Lewis & The News?! Picture him in sunglasses with that haircut of his and he'd fit right into a 'Power of Love' video!

I like his presenting style. Better than Jeremy Clarkson?

  • He hasnt got a hopuh

  • What a douche bag of a presenter. Thankfully top gear changed

  • this is soo funny this guy is halirous

  • the 440?

  • Is that Vicki Butler Henderson in the leather trousers ?

  • @celt67 no its clearly someone else

  • all the cars were made by him LOL

  • The Terrano may be ugly but its very reliable, land rover?? Give me a break!

I've had several off roaders and the Terrano is the only one that has never let me down.

When you're stuck in a field covered in shite I doubt you'll be too worries how it looks!!

  • Leather trousers really were popular in the last 1990s, weren't they?

  • this guy reminds me of Simon Cowell

  • 0:22 E34 HELL YEAH

  • He could have reviewed most of the french cars that were produced at that time...and nowadays

  • Fucking hell, he's invented his own language.

  • Quentin Wilson is a brilliant presenter, he did this presenting style long before Clarkson came along. He is a legend, and this clip was fantastic.

  • @JeffersA1 willson came alone after clarkson clarkson in 1989 and wilson in 1992

  • thumb up if you thought the best thing about this vid is the blond :)

  • bit harsh saying it was designed by ray charles and stevie wonder

  • @classicrockhahaha i know right black designers are the worst!

  • 3:20 :D

  • Volvo 440s are good cars. My dad ran one for 5 years and only scrapped it after doing 100+ miles a day. It's sibling 480ES was brilliant too. Would have either of them tomorrow.

  • @Llamarama100

I agree. My dad had a couple of these. Not as robust as his later R-reg S40, but great little cars nonetheless. I like the 340 as well.

  • Those horrible camera angles make me feel seasick who the fuck directed this?

  • my mate has a 440 with nearly 180,000 miles on the clock, body work is awfull, but, mecanically it is "as new" hardly ever uses his rover 75.

  • the escort is unreliable, only car that ever just died and I couldnt fix it where it was. 3 times.

  • Now we know where Clarkie got his presenter style.

  • Comment removed

  • @sundayraver They'd start pinching each other on the cheek! wouldn't be much of a fight! although it would be funny to watch!

  • Aussie cars rule...

    Watch more top gear !

  • Didh just say buy a Punto? No wonder he's gone!

  • @keano6t9 fuck off... I own two puntos cock

  • Volvo is perfect!!!

  • Dont buy anything made in australia either , they are shit aswell

  • derst von puestin varden wie sie nich vor ichst ein haben i have no idea what i just wrote i believe most of it was german someone please translate for the chance to win a long winded sleep induceing thrill ride of a snorfests uncles brothers fathers daughters comment

  • and this is all coming from one of the most boring, idiotic men on britain? which he is the reason why every1 assumes we are how we are..

the metro... looks old, but a few tweaks and they can be great cars.. if it wernt for volvos 440 then we wouldnt have the saftey we have today... wasnt the escort one of the best car at the time? its just had its roof cut off yet it looses all respect... hes on about style, hes had the same haircut for the past million and a half years... god help him

  • @gt4driftster without having a deep discussion of a 14 year old prog... you seem to have missed the stated point. it's about image, enjoyment (which has roots in quality), and trade in values.

Volvo's contribution to safety and the 240/740s ruggedness are legend, but even in my youth the 340/440 were horrid old people's cars. 10 years ago the Metro's rep was so bad my parents banned me from buying a mid-90s one as my first car - but a 1990-vintage Polo, Skoda or R5 was A-OK...at the same price!

  • @TahreyUK well this man is obviously a fool, just like you, for buyin a car for its looks and not mainly safety and reliability.

ok the metro wasnt the msot reliable car, but yet somehow still managed to be as safe a 106 and safer than a saxo which are newer.. great on petrol, small city car. the volvo is pig ugly, but id rather the car look ugly than my face in an accident. your telling me, across bewteen a cheap, but solid good safe car, to a pricey up market car, youd take that,..

  • @gt4driftster No, I bought mine (eventually the Polo) on its safety, reliability & value. It was one of the safest cars amongst its contemporaries, the early models were legendarily bombproof, & it had acceptable performance/economy/insurance ratings. One thing it was NOT, was stylish. It also was an "old people's car" but I didnt give a toss. It was a ride I could afford & one that wouldnt let me down or kill me.

The style-conscious kids of my gen actually bought deathtrap Metros, Novas & AXs!

  • @gt4driftster You do seem to have completely missed what I was saying. The ARTICLE IN THE VIDEO is about image/enjoyment/depreciation - they actually state this.

It's NOT my own preference, which has stayed in the "cheap, solid, safe" end of the market (necessarily, because I'm a broke ass scrub, who needs reliable wheels for work)... Polos, Astras, etc. Recently a Megane, which has proven too fussy/tarty, but twas all I could afford in a rush.

But, I can still identify what the video's about

  • @gt4driftster Incidentally I think you meant to say the Metro "wasn't any more dangerous than the 106 or Saxo". Those aren't cars that I'd put in my top 10 of 90s Hatchbacks I'd Happily Have A Crash In. Hell, the early Saxos are basically re-shelled AXs, down to the 3-bolt wheels. You hit a kerb too hard and it'll fall apart.

Clio, maybe not so bad, but still tinny. Give us something German, if it has to be that old.

  • were not all made of money, which this idiot seems to think so, aswell as you

  • i think the scorpio is good looking *_*

  • I got a ford Scorpio 2.3 1997 (facelift) , it does 115mph in 4th gear and it still pulls in 5th

the back seats are big and comfortable for sex and with 18" alloys and big chunky tyres, everybody thinks your a gangster because they have never seen a car similar on the road. Yes Scorpios standard are very boring and ugly, but a bit of money spent on it is well spent money.

  • @tayfun1066 : You get Sex in a Scorpio?!? How??? With who???

  • @Normanroberts she was unconscious aha, I kid

getting sex aint nothing to do with your car, its the persons looks and personality more then anything,

as long as the car is clean, doesn't smell like chips, and a bit of window tint so no pervs can see, its a good of place as any other.

  • @tayfun1066 The Granada and Scorpio owners club certainly seemed thriving and plenty capable of having a good time when I was briefly at an all makes event in Billings a few years back... including quite a few blinged ones :-)

However that performance seems rather similar to or even somewhat less than what my 1.6 renault manages... 50% of the engine's being wasted somewhere...?

  • @TahreyUK its ford's plan to ruin your pocket, the 149bhp gets me a brilliant 41mpg on a downhill while a 40 miles journey costs me £15 in fuel. The original exhaust costs £400 (200 more then custom longlife) and a fuse for heater motor (or air con) costs £68! From Ford parts. But still I brought the car because it wasn't as mass produced like BMW or Mercedes-Benz and hate seeing any other car that looks like mine. Nearly all 97 saloons have gone. Every1will want 1 in 10years. If any is left.

  • Wow, take a look at 2:16...nothing like a woman on leather...

  • Why they say the Serena is bad. It's very reliable and it is a good people carrier!

  • @MrDionisis7 Remember this is the mid-90s Serena ... which I think, at the time, was the slowest passenger vehicle on sale in the UK, particularly the diesel one (I think the line about the dealers hating them may refer to having to use them as company transport...), a crown it didn't lose until the non-turbo 1.5D Kangoo came along... (or was it the Fiat Doblo? One or the other out-slugged the Serena). But for all that it didn't even have good economy.

  • Nissan terrano is a good car

  • It handles.. like a dog. LOL

  • Nothing wrong with a Volvo 440.

Drove one for years in a row and it was one of the best cars I ever had.

(And been driving for 34 yrs)

Yes, it was slightly dull, but overhere in the Netherlands people don't care much for stylish cars. If you show up at a business presentation overhere in something stylish you are frowned upon as cavalier, inprudent, etc.

A black Audi A4 diesel or a grey Volvo S40 on LPG is the business ticket overhere. Perhaps also Mercedes, but then you have to be high ranked.

  • I Enjoy Watching This Quentin Wilson If You Don't Like Him Don't Watch

  • What does this guy had against Ford Motor Company? Everybody knows what the nameplate Escort means, and the responsable team behind the developement of the last Scorpio where very brave producing a car with a different face and the rear part that looks like an American car. Of course that contemporary Ford´s are a lot better. Also Volvo´s. Rover has gone and Nissan is a quite good brand.

  • Jesus christ, i was almost vomiting because he uses so many analogies. That was so frustrating.

  • @DrFreerun I could hardly even understand him. Gibberish.

  • @DrFreerun lol anal

  • God i miss the 90s...

  • dont hate on volvo

  • Volvo is the only really good European car that exists in 2011.

  • Cars like the Serena in the UK and they make grat MPV's like the Elgrande in Japan, and they are being imported faster than falling gurders

  • the mk 5 Escorts were totally shit

  • @tonidmc Well, I've a base spec Escort Mk6 1.3L. Sure it's not the fastest or most powerful car in the world, but it's incredibly reliable and very cheap to run.

  • @kazimann thats right and I'm shore about that, I'm only saying that european magazines of the era said that the mk5 had poor performance in all the areas. rear live axle instead of mk4 independent suspension, cheaper plastics, and even worse engine performance, in fact an mk4 xr3i could achieve nearly the same times in acceleration as an mk5 130hp 16v xr3i.

  • @tonidmc Well, my Escort has the old Kent OHV 1.3L engine, which were only available on the base models. As I mentioned, they are very reliable and will go forever. The CVH engine on the other hand (which was the most popular engine in the Mk5 and 6, were indeed not particularly very good). They drank petrol and suffered badly from seized hydraulic tappets.

  • @kazimann yes, i know the problem with the hydraulic tappets, I have a 1988 Escort cabriolet ghia, but it wasn't too much problem if the little sealers were changed at the correct times and kms my car has 220.000km and run ok This engines perfomed little poorly on the mk5 and 6 due to more weight and emission systems but are not bad engines if properly maintained but of course the old kent engines are undestructible and very reliable ones. My father had an mk1 Fiesta and that was forever engine.

  • @tonidmc I've also an '82 Escort Mk3 (a restoration project, if you go into my channel you'll see a like to my Flickr page, there is pics of it in there somewhere), with the 1.3L CVH engine, and the tappets are well seized in it!

  • @kazimann I see that you also like the DeLorean! I have one, Vin 1735 with black interior and five speed!

  • @tonidmc Really, that's cool man! Always loved them, mainly because they were Irish built (well, Northern Irish, but same thing!).

You should setup a Flickr page too.

  • @kazimann yes, an american dream made in ireland! hehe thats was cool! Ijust marked you as a friend here, so we can talk and i could send you some pics

  • @tonidmc Thanks mate. Accepted.

  • I've got the Nissan's twin sister, the Ford Maverick. It's great off road but it's not hugely reliable. Ah well, it's dead now so we've replaced it with an old Disco.

  • sick

  • MOAG-MOOOOAAAAAR! xDDDD

  • love Scorpio´s design :P

ad Terrano - the most useles offroad on the market?... well... SUV has just been born :D

  • once i seen him presenting i decided to post this comment and leave. just couldnt watch it cause of his weird shaped head

  • I had a h reg volvo 440 and managed to clock 125mph admittedly i did have trouble getting it into gear for a short while after but an hour or so after i turned the engine of i had no problems i loved that car and was sad to lose it after it was stolen and written off.

  • The quality of this production is slightly lower than the quality of the cars "reviewed". Top Gear at it's worst.

  • 14 People had a car on that list xD

  • @Cookiefan1876 An L-reg Volvo 440 lasting until 2005 is nothing special. A guy who lives near me has a K-reg one that is still going strong!

  • @macguy907 I will admit the cosworth is really nice. I suppose if you modify it enough, and upgrade anything and everything you can, an escort can be a great car, but the reality (at least here in california) is that I have never seen a modded escort. It is always used as a clunker here. Something you find for 1k and drive it till it runs out of the gas the previous owner left in it. Hm, maybe I should take this up. Mod out an escort.. it would be damn unique here!

  • @thisishellagay Of course, you're comparing the US Escort versus the Worldwide Escort. Try not to do that, same when comparing Mondeos with Contours. The differences are gigantic, and the US Escort has always been an abysmal car, compared to the UK/Worldwide Escort, which was always reliable.

Same should be said with the Focus. The US Focus sucks, specially the last version released on 2008 only in the US.

  • @macguy907 Escorts are absolutely terrible things! They are abominations!

  • Irony with the Scorpio is Citroen restyled the Xzara and Xantia in the same style practically - yet people lapped 'em up. Still 0% finance is always helpful of course.

  • the rovert gti and gta wernt bad

  • Okej the scorpio is ugly as a sad fish, bit had one för over a year and its really nice to drive, the ride comfort is awesome for the price!

  • watch it quentin, mopeds are awesome

  • @richardmaudsley77 but misfiring mopeds aren't

  • @jerryg1964 they're better.

Headlight going out just giggle the cord!

  • They call Jeremy Clarkson a cock, but Quentin Wilson tops him by far.

  • @ShallowBeThyGames

Do you by any chance drive a Scorpion?

  • @rock3tcat I wrote a couple off in banger races years ago.

  • @ShallowBeThyGames yes but at least Quentin has some brains so his cockyness is more justified!

  • @ShallowBeThyGames by a trip to the moon

  • @ShallowBeThyGames

He may be quite a cock, but i prefer Quentin, simply of his constant sneer and actual advice

  • @ShallowBeThyGames

and also Jeremy always cracks me up.

  • haha nice...of course there's a volvo in there

  • Quentin Willson talking about street cred , with the bobby charlton flapping around :D

  • i have a Volvo 460, it's a great car!!

  • The Scorpio is an ugly bug and probably inspired by Americans. The Metro is a joke. The Serena is just a van with windows. My old man has a 440 and has been a good car, but I do find the design undesireable. Volvo could have done better, but half of it is Renault. :( The Escort cab is shite. The Terrano is just a Chelsea Shed. Some cars are just shit. Give me a BMW 320i. Something with class and low depreciation. At least a BMW makes you feel good about yourself.

  • lol i have a Volvo 440 2.0 and i love it .

  • mk 4 escort convertebal is uncool? this guy needs to have his head looked at

  • @lewisajax my brother cried with joy when his was stolen, an amazingly poor car

  • @lewisajax hahaha really? you think they're cool?

  • I had a Rover 100. Great little car. I prefer it to the equivalent N/P reg Micra which has vile interior.

  • endless comparisions of everything with everything isn't so thoughtful and funny

  • Postman Pat Postman pat Drove a Big Old minivan crap

  • too many similies!!!

  • @Tommimaster111

I agree, and they are usually awful and unimaginative too!

  • Ah the old Z3, still a beauty I think.

  • I like Quentin Willson, but i think most of his comments were his opinions......I had a Metro as a second car in the late nineties and it handled brilliantly and certainly did not sway all over the road.......The Escorts from that era tended to rust badly, but the "new shape" Escort from late 90 till late 92 when it was heavily revised was worse that the Mk 3/4.

  • oh boy he did not just pull a line on ray charles and stevie wonder all those years ago...

  • They forgot the worst car ever made....Chrysler LaBaron, I would rather buy any of the cars that are in this video then ever have another LaBaron.,

  • Quentin Wilson = Britain's biggest dickhead

  • i love the volvo!

  • volvo 440 is a reliable car I had it but I never had problems with it

  • @MyChemicalJasper For thr first - 440 ain't Volvo. This is a English desing Dutch manufactured French car, which is by some cruel mishap has name Volvo on it.

440 and realible? Well here could be two reasons. You drive insanely short distances or You car is just an expection in rule.

  • @MyChemicalJasper483 lots of jews had them

  • @MyChemicalJasper483 all volvo's are fantastic cars!

  • @Nevoexpo

    yes they are :D

  • @MyChemicalJasper483 You must have been the lucky one, the very very very lucky one.

  • @Theagchm

17 people agree with me so they're also lucky then

  • @MyChemicalJasper483 1 for every year perhaps.

  • @MyChemicalJasper483 But he was right - it lost half it's value in less than two years...!!! Actually, looking back from today, Quentin was every bit of right in all his statements about these cars...! ;o)

  • @MyChemicalJasper483, maybe, but IT IS A SHITBOX!!!!!!

  • Being bald is uncool too!

  • <
