btw a scientific study studied how flies take off when you swing at them, they take off based on the direction your hand comes from, in 0.1 ms they can adjust their legs and jump towards in the opposite direction of your hand.

For some reason my new apartment is fly central... Yesterday, I put some jelly in a water bottle, waited for the fly to go in, and capped it inside. But today, the darn fly wouldn't go inside the bottle, so I tried this. Got it the first time! Thanks! Would still prefer not touching a fly though...

i have another method. if you use both hands and start with them very wide apart, and slowly move your hands closer and closer together, the fly sits there and doesnt know which one to run from. if you bring your hands in at the same speed from either side of the fly, you can close your hands around it.

Actually I've got this cool way of catching a fly... I watched how a venus fly trap does it and it actually closes slower than you would think but still fast 'enough'... its almost unintentional... try just casually and calmly moving your hand in to press your fingers around the fly as if even when you have caught him you still move that way... it has proven affective every time for me :) or watch a venus fly trap and copy the movement how you intepret it to be.
