kenny was one of the greatest box fighters but had problems we never saw the best of him he could of and was great but outside problems you cannot fight and manage ken hope your doing good yi0u deserve good fortune
@Riff28Raff Yeah wow, I checked his reel out. He's a little Shtick in the way he moves but he has the right idea and very quick and has great timing with his punches no wonder they were hard.
Wow he's really good, not only is he good but he's really slick in the way he moves, great rhythm. Funny how England can't get a good white fighter with this talent. hence Calzaghe Welsh and Scottish Buchanan and I'm glad cause they had two good black fighters like Benn and Eubank whom they humiliated with the media.
What a shame that Buchanan never got a second shot at Duran. That fight was much closer than it was scored by the officials--and Buchanan was coming on in the 13th. In retrospect, knowing Duran's history, Duran was very frustrated that he'd given Buchanan all he had and Buchanan was still coming on. So, Duran hit him low, and incompetent ref Johnny LoBianco wouldn't let Buchanan out for the 14th.
Prime Buchanan versus prime Arguello. That would have been a superb match of two of the best exponents of the craft ever to grace the ring. Okay neither quite had prime Durans brute strength and all round ability but Duran was a one off and Ken was only the slightest of margins behind him. Best British ever only Conteh at his very best is close.
no chance, best brit isJimmy Wilde is no1. greatest flyweight of all time, & voted by ring magazine 3rd hardest puncher ever. 7st with 99ko"s. the ghost with a hammer in his hand!!!
I was really referring to the post war era and British fighters I have actually seen. But you could well be right about Wilde. His amazing record speaks for itself.
Agreed. Buchanan vs Arguello would have been memorable. Two classic, and classy, champions; one (Buchanan) more boxer than puncher and the other (Arguello) more puncher than boxer. Ahhh, if only...
no, actually arguello's the better technician. he rarely made any mistakes. Buchanan made a whole lot of mistakes. fast counterpunchers like floyd mayweather jr. or pernell whitaker would have made a short work of buchanan.
Sorry, don't agree that Arguello was the better technician, but the difference between them wasn't great. However, there is no way Whitaker, who couldn't punch, would make short work of Buchanan, and I doubt Mayweather would, either. Mayweather would beat Buchanan, though; not sure about Whitaker.
If Duran in his absolute prime could not make short work of Buchanan then there is no way Whitaker or Mayweather jr. could have. Buchanan could go 15 hard rounds and he hit a lot harder than his frame would suggest -similar to Arguello in that sense. Duran when he was retired was asked who was the best he ever faced at lightweight replied "Buchanan." That is why he never gave him a rematch. Too much risk involved and easier paydays to be had.
Big shame for Ken he came up against one of the all time greats in Duran when at his peak...he had everything, style, power and great movement. Worthy nomination as best Bristish fighter of all time.
Great vid on a great fighter. But... I don't know if he was the greatest British fighter ever. Jimmy Wilde, Freddie Welsh, Ted "Kid" Lewis, Lennox Lewis, Randy Turpin... Yeah, he deserves to be in the list.
haha....got to laugh at that... LENNOX LEWIS?? Greatest british boxer of all time?? 1..he wasnt british... 2 he had a glass jaw!! Ken Buchanan is easily the best of british... easily....
I hope there is no truth in the rumour that Ken plan's to return to the unlicensed circuit at the age of 63!!!!!.
Just to clear debts.
I mean after all he's given the game throughout the years he has to suffer this humilating and potenially fatal ordeal.
It would make alot more sense if Hatton gave a portion of his ridiculously oversized purse for his farcade against Pacquiao to him. Or aleast grant him a fundriser. Anything to keep him out of the ring.
I think boxing monthy or ring magazine should organize a fund raiser for him, I'd give a few quid, it's the least every boxing fan in Britain could do. The greatest British fighter I can recall
love the one about KB,s construction boss asking for his autograph as he paid him his wages & Ken,s apprentice who was too young to remember he was a boxer never mind World Champ, said "you must be some fuckin' joiner Kenny"
this guy was on the news this mornin gonna come bac in the ring he needs money to pay legal expenses or somethin like that apparently he has a broken back mmmm not advisable hes sixty odd anyway he would get his pension ass kicked lol i mean in his day he was a great fighter but come on ken you wouldnt even get a british lisencse or go down the white coller road pmsl good luck anyway from one ken to another
I think its Ishmael Laguna and you are right anyone who could beat him twice away from home was certainly special. If Ken had been around now he would have been an absolute superstar. Giving weight he would have embarrassed Hatton who would not have laid a glove on him and I highly rate Hatton.
I agree. I would put McGuigan in front of Honeyghan. Beating Curry in America was a fantastic result but Curry was not motivated and very poor on the night. McGuigan beat better quality fighters. Also I would put Hatton in front of Naseem certainly in terms of pure fighting spirit and will to win even if he does not have Naseems pure natural talent in his prime.
Check the 3 punch combination at 0:43 No other lightweight could have caught Duran like that. Duran said himself that Buchanan was the best he ever faced at Lightweight so its not surprising he never gave him the rematch.
what a great video, scotlands ken buchanon is one of the greatest lightweights in history. the music fits him like skin; dazzling, gracefull, fast and deceptive.
I love his 'trademark' 3 punch combination - right leading hook to the body left hook to the body right cross to the head all delivered at lightning speed. Even Duran got caught by it.I think its because he led with the right is why it was so effective.
Amir Khan isn't in the same league. Buchannan was a true champion and Khan will only be a plastic champion with hand picked opponents if he even achieves that.
Awesome video! Awesome song! Buchanan looks brilliant. This is one of the best videos I've seen on Youtube (this and a Tour de France video set to Johnny Cash's "I hurt Myself"). Great, great job!
Who knows who would have won the rematch? But there was no way Duran was going to risk it. He himself said Buchanan was best he ever fought. Prime Buchanan v Prime Arguello - my God what a fight that would have been!
Great video. I am an American, hardcore fight fan......& also a fan of Big Country, whose "Porrohman" is the opening song to this vid. Buchanan was an oustanding champion, who fought & succeeded in of the best eras of 135lbers. Class act, & a man who still seems to have his faculties together.
