Apologies...I guess that was a little harsh. I have to play this song with a band, and during my youtube search for a group that did something creative with one of jazz's most abused standards, I happened to flip my lid while watching this video. An unfortunate coincidence ;)
To their credit, the sentinel jazz band has a good group sound, appropriately enthusiastic feel for the tune, and a good presence on the stage.
HAHA gotta love the corny light show ... but im affraid thats about all i really enjoyed about this video ... not the best rendition of mercy mercy mercy...
awesome alto sax!

not much of an audience to energize. good job but try to work in some harmonies and have the trumpet player work on his tone and dynamics

the seating you see was just the extra seating we had to put out. the bleachers, where people normally sit, are behind the camera.

It sounded fine, but this is a groove tune, and you guys take way too up tempo.

the problem with that is that it doesn't get audiences energized. i guess it doesn't really matter since we didn't really have an audience...

is that so? you obviously haven't heard the Cannonball Adderley version of this song..
Don't blame the music.

Properly we should refer to this tune as as BY Joe Zawinul FOR Cannonball! Joe wrote for Mr. Adderley!

Great performance.
Wish Ian had a guitar solo in it, though.
