@SiQstyx What Sc2 calls balance, I call un realistic. 3 troopers should not be able to shoot down a battlecruiser unless those 3 troopers are manning an anti-orbital weapon. The game boils down to getting more units to the other person before they get a bunch to you, with minor tweaks that make no difference if you have enough units. Im not saying its a bad game, Im just saying I dont like the way its set up. I prefer my tanks to be killed by anti-tank weapons, and not a tiny machine gun.
@Optix334 "3 troopers should not be able to shoot down a battlecruiser" This is incorrect, 3 marines aren't able to shoot down a BC lol. "The game boils down to getting more units to the other person before they get a bunch to you" bullshit, sc2 is about strategy as well as tactical engagements. Of course the person with the most units wins, that's what an RTS is about have sufficient macro/micro and strategic capabilities. I'm just going to ignore your last point.
@SiQstyx Maybe 3 marines cant shoot down a battlecruiser, but the fact that they damage it at all is ridiculous in my mind, and are you trying to tell me that a protoss bio-ball, siege tank adv, and a zerg rush is not about how many of each unit you have. At least in DoW if I get rushed by tanks, I can take them out with a couple of anti-tank weapons. There is a lot more strategy with units that do 100 dmg to X and 0 dmg to Y than everything does X damage to Y and Z.
@SiQstyx Starcraft cannot compare to this, there are different types of units (armour, specs such as anti-armor, etc.). Theres cover, units have abilities and are upgraded individually giving them a sense of importance. Much more realistic in all aspects, cover, distructable terrain. Beautiful graphics, did I mention sync kills? Bro this was 2009, vanilla Dow2, go play retribution.
and buy Retribution. it will give you all multiplayer updates and races (base game and the first expansion "Chaos Rising" will give you just their singleplayer campaign)
Ugh, I'm tired of people comparing DoW and StarCraft together. StarCraft originally was supposed to be a Warhammer game but it didn't turn out that way, but I think Blizzard did a very good job making that universe unique upon it's release.
That being said, at this point they are two COMPLETELY different games with completely different styles, while both great in their own rights are hardly comparable.
I have fun with both, and I don't see why everyone else has a hard time doing the same.
Actually... i would rather not have so much base building cuz its a pain in the ass i would rather just start figthing but i think it is Essential that in every RTS that u just gotta have some sort of "Barracks" and "Tank War Factory" u got make People and Tanks somehow.
This game is too addicting... I played it, and instantly I was hooked, gameplay is fast, almost anyone can make it with some elbow grease and luck, and it's not so damn slow to make such a quality game, I mean compare it to how long Starcraft 2 took. I think it's over-hyped, when games like this come out, and they're faster, and funner to play.
but then its a role play game and not a strategy game.
personaly I like the planing of buildings, looks more like dawn of war 2 is creating a new game style like ARTS (action real time strategy) or SRTS (speed real time strategy)
The Warhammer mmo is already out bro.. unless you mean the 40k version which i've hread nothing of... And btw the 2012 ending is a theory :D not a fact D
I like how Relic is perfecting the RTS genre. And please do not mention Blizzard. They have been up there ass with World of Warcraft. They have delayed Starcraft 2 too long, i just don't care anymore. Just give me Dawn of War and i will be happy. Relic is ace in my book.
@westcoastzilla Except Starcraft sucks =D Whe i look at starfcraft, im like "what the hell is this?" Its just flat out boring and the graphics are weird and dated
Do you realise that there are seveal other directions that could be "perfected" inside the RTS genre? They were just all abandoned for games like DoW or SC.
Other than that, I like how they try to create something new by making bigger changes to the previous game. I just hope they don't spoil it like C&C has been spoiled :)
From what I've seen on youtube, Starcraft appears to be more strategic - here, I oftentimes see just two armies clash together.
@Savci008 Starcraft is only 3 strategies, Terrans use the siege tanks to slowly move up, Protoss bio-ball, and Zerg just.....zerg things. At least in DOW it matters on a unit to unit basis who wins, not 300 marines somehow shoot down a space cruiser which somehow got shrunk down enough to fit on screen. Both games have deception though, and thats what does it for me, although Dow does it way better.
@Optix334 DoW combat always seemed really shallow to me, there isn't real micro management over the usual tactical decisions and macro management is essencially non-exsistant. Of course, the point based gameplay makes up for some of this and requires quite a lot of the players' attention, but making decisions isn't a challenge unit composition wise.
@Savci008 Theres alot of challenges in unit composition. A squad of shootas wont take down a predator or any kind of vehicle with any kind of acceptable speed. As far as micro between the two games, I stopped playing SC2 awhile ago so I dont really remember....but from what I do the only micro I know of is upgrades and stim packs for marines and things like that. Dow has that in the form of weapons, powerups and abilities for most units, and there are some without. Its a good mix though.
Yes your right because dawn of war 2 or COH are not the type of rts where you can win with just an onslaught of troops or massive armies, you have to play with what you got a lot and fall back if you lose.
lol ignorance, sc2 is so much better in balance, gameplay and everything.. I mean seriously the first actual game I've found has only 23k views?

@westcoastzilla Yeah, they are different, although they look similar for some.
If I'd have to compare it to anything of Blizzard, it would be Warcraft 3 because of the low damages.

@westcoastzilla Actually Star Craft is a 40k clone.
I mean, come on dude! Tyranids are a terrible insectoid/reptilian-like swarm devouring everything in it's path.
The Zerg is a terrible insectoid/reptilian-like swarm devouring everything in it's path.
GW came up first with it, so I'm pretty sure they are unoriginal bastards, not GW.
