  • We need Megaman 2 in 2.5D

  • I pressed the space bar..

  • wtf im i watching?!

  • Paper Mario 17

  • "Oh wow, it's like that drug-trip I saw in that movie when I was on that drug-trip."

  • At the beginning I was pressing the space bar....

  • @TheDeepBass

Then nothing else happened... for 4 hours. I turned off the game.

  • I don't understand why the framerate is so low? Are you rendering this without a GPU?

  • @CoderCobyWalker yes its all cpu running c code.

  • wait isnt a voxel a pixel but with volume? cuz this cant be a complete voxel engine, cuz Everything aint voxels, this is more like a classic 3D engine when you still used sprites, for example doom or duke nukem 3D

  • @zyriuz2 the sprites in this engine are voxels (in 3d, in voxels so they have a volume), not sprites as in bill boards used in games like doom.

  • Epic. I want a proper Yoshi's Island sequel on the 3DS with a voxel style. With the 3D effect it would look amazing. Lot's of nifty things they can do with the extra depth to add to gameplay. New Super Mario Bros sucked and Super Mario Bros 3D looks rubbish as well.

  • What's the point?

  • Do you have the source released for this? Voxel engines are interesting, but underrepresented..

  • if you continue with this project, try to aim it toward Paper Mario.

  • Aspect radio FAIL!

  • @Evi1M4chine Spelling FAIL!

  • @Evi1M4chine it has nothing to do with ratio, it's just not a true perspective, it's called isometric projection !!

  • Everyone Type "Won" Before youtube.com

  • orly? i want!!

  • the cake is a lie

  • Shoot!

  • Porra!

  • SKILLZ.

  • 2.5D is a term that's been used for a long time for sidescrolling games rendered in 3D, but with 2D movement. Pandemonium and Yoshi's Story 64 are examples that were released about 15 years ago. Yes, I realize Doom was released before, but it's not exactly like this is a new term.

  • cool

  • True, 2.5D has a specific meaning amongst 3d graphics rasterization, especially with the implementation of voxels; 2.5D should be dropped for side-scrolling/er or platformer

  • 2.5D? Nah, voxels are 3-D.

  • While the graphics would be rendered as 3-dimensional, the movement in the game would be 2-dimensional. That is what is meant when referring to a game as "2.5d".

  • Ever played Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project? That's 3-D and the movement is 2-D.

That game is 3-D Ever played DooM? There are no floors over floors.

    That game is 2.5D

  • You proved my point with Duke Nukem: MP. Thank you.

  • @viciousogg actually duke nukem forever was 3d with 2d movement and camera rotation over scenes and gave the 2.5d. So you are right cause this one is 3d too with 2.5d feel

  • ya no floors over floors.. but it does appear to b 3d as u go up things..the textures change perspective wise as if u wer travelin along that axis.. i guess thats wat 2.5d is then hehe i duno ;p

  • Look at the 2.5D drawing mode in ZBrush, that is 2.5D

That Duke Nukem game you mentioned is a 3D graphics game played on 2 axis

  • doom is a pseudo 3d game, like wolfenstein 3d before. but quake was a true 3d game

  • @viciousogg usually, but not always the case; 2.5D means anything that doesn't give more than 2d movement, but still looks like more than 2D. Another 2.5D concept would be like how in Kirby squeak squad, the background moves slower than the foreground, but it's still a 2d sidescroller.

  • @youmakeitwhatitis background and foreground movement speeds actually has it's own term. it's called parallax scrolling, I believe.

  • @viciousogg If the rendering is in 3d but the movement is in 2d that just that; 3d rendered 2d game. This is not was 2.5d mean. 2.5d refer to crippled 3d rendering like doom. And even then it is not a correct usage. Fuck you!

  • @newtubetubetube I said fuck you first so fuck you. No need to hate this guy is trying to explain what's happening in terms people not familiar with game design understand.

  • @neilo11 No. He was spreading misinformation that only confuse the 'peoples not familiar with game design'. My response was justified and good intended. I didn't hate anybody. Fuck off!

  • @newtubetubetube go find somewhere else to stroke your ego boner. 2.5d works for everyone else. Unless you invented voxelation then you have no right to tell people what they have to describe it as. Crippled as it may be Doom was 3d rendered. You are a douche canoe.

  • Crysis uses voxels for its terrain

  • Only for some parts of the terrain, though. Most of the terrain is made using meshes.

  • Oh okay.

  • But not to render it, only to map it out (i think)

  • o im sorry i was talking about POKEMAN, the bideo game

  • What's interesting with a 2.5D is you can probably program the collisions using 2D methods and still get nice 3D output

  • they did, it's called "POKEMAN"

  • Sorry, I missed the link to your better 3D voxel engine.

  • Nice engine! It's like 2.5D!

  • Oh, engine sounds interesting!

  • lol, looks like a retro version of Super Paper Mario...

  • this could lead into a whole new dimension of classic mario! =P

  • nintendo used this idea for super paper mario huh?

  • Cool use of voxels
