@Darek12cool I think that you should get the tank and not the net! The tank separates the mother and the fry (babies). While the net does not! I have been raising livebearer fish for a couple years now!! But i have the tank and the net! What i do is let the mother have the fry in the tank then i wait a day so that the fry are atleast a day old, then i put the fry in the net!!  hope this helped!

How do you keep your tank so clean? i can never get mine as clear as yours

And how long will the fish be pregnant? Mine gave birth imguessing about not to long ago but i didnt know until i cleaned the tank and there were only two left, so i was able to get them into their birthing/breeding tank.

Will she be having more anytime soon?

nsantmyre1208 if you platy starts loosing white string from the back this is pre birth that the fry will feed on so put in reading box as soon as be gentle as possible as you don't want still birth

So maybe I'm crazy. I have big rocks instead of gravel in my tank. My platy had babies and I was shocked as I have owned fish for years and never seen a baby fish. now that I know what to expect I have been keeping an write on the tank and when platy has babies they hide under the rocks ave swim around down there. They don't come up at all I have to look closely to see them! I have never used a trap. Babies are fine I think tho I may be mistaken that I'm losing some because I only have like

@dragonsblazer: um thats what i do but they might slip out through the little slits... I taped the sides so they wont get out. I would leave em there for about a week but dont put em in the original tank untill its bigger than tge biggest fishes mouth otherwise they will get eaten

Well depending on the size of the fish and age the smaller the platty the less fry about 20 let's say it would take about 3-5 hours and if she is spooked by other fish he may hold them in until its safe for her to carry on. If you put her in the breeding tank turn the light off this way she will be relaxed and won't eat as many of her fry as they are harder to see. My platty was giving birth for 6-8 hours I new when she had done the her base was clear. Ps don't forget to feed at start small amo

MegaVladimir1988 but i would remove them and end there pain due to the other fish catching it. u could try and do every chang, i have a 60l tank and i desove in the new treated water about 3 tea spoons of aquatic salt this did help my fish . good luck hope this helped

hello, my platie male (weird looking one , with a long sword tail) was doing that yesterday to the female fish. I have a question, i have four platies , two are swimming around but the other two are sitting at the bottom , breathing but not doing much else also they both have white stripes on them that were not there before, are they sick?

Yes unfotunatly the fry do swin up through the forunt or back gap, but if you keep your eye on them they should be fine.

Some do get eaten, its just the luck of the draw im afrade.

well i left my fish in for 7 days but make sure its not bloat if that the correct term. if it is the scales of the fish look like a a pine cone, it may be unwell if not then look for a white stringish phoo that comes from its bum if that comes out then its no going to be long. If it looks like pine cone then im sorry keep it in the breading tank or put it out of it missery. Make sure its not pregnant first look for the sign's good look.

I have 4 pregnant platies at the moment, one of which I'm sure is almost ready to drop. I also have the same breeder so it's good to see how they act while they're inside. Also nice to see all the little fry at the bottom ^^
