They actually were suspended indefinitely,but were allowed to return to the student population after a little over a month,which included time at an alternative school,saturday detentions,psychiatric evaluations,ISS when they returned to school for a while,etc
I don;t think the noose incident actually had anything to do with the attack of 3 months later. No connection was ever even suggested by ANYONE involved until mnay weeks later when an activist wrote an essay connecting the 2 situations.

The Jena 6 attacked someone because of the color of their skin. That is a hate crime and civil rights violation. Therefore, the Jena 6 must be punished accordinly for justice to prevail. As a form free speech, hanging a rope from a tree is protected by the first ammendment. Furthermore, in regards to equal justice. Generally i don't agree with the term nigger. But i do have do say that you have a point. If that particular group was civilized they wouldn't have turned to violence. The white kids who hung the nooses were in the wrong but they didn't hurt anybody.
