Just because it has a retractable roof and grass does not make the most technologicaly advanced stadium in the world. Electric motors and rails? That's so old stuff.
I agree with Laghes. Gelredome and Veltins pioneered this technology years ago. I guess if it doesn't take place in USA, it doesn't count with Americans. All the same, it's a cool stadium. But they wouldn't have to have a retractable field or roof if they choose FieldTurf. That would be more environmentally friendly.
I saw this incredible stadium on some technology show when it opened and now everytime the poor state of the Wembley pitch (London, UK) is commented on in the news I think about how on an unlimited budget anything is possible.
@d21rich i saw that show, extreme engineering it was called but this stadiums budget wasn't unlimited (land etc was cheaper here), and the pitch problems at WS are because of its over-use. sliding ptches are relatively simple, arnhem being the first, others like veltins doing it well. this ones pretty cool too. the japanese usually have the craziest engineering solutions, this ones nice and reliable.
I'm gonna be there for that one. And I have not watched the stuff in years. Going to Vegas for monster jam and will go to Arizona the next night for WM. Should be fun. Gonna bring my camera and may take a couple videos while there. Just won't be any in ring action though.
No it's not the only stadium with a retractable roof and field around!
The Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen (Germany) as well as the Gelredome in Arnheim (Netherlands) have the same features and were built prior to this one.
If only Wembley Stadium was built this way. Recent report said they'll redo their sod 65 times in 13 years.

@laghes most americans dont know about anything outside the states. . .
but i bet they knew about the two above stadiums and even looked at them for design insiration.
if only every stadium was like this. especially the retractable roof, i want that in my stadium.

@laghes It's still a great stadium, and uses newer and upgraded technology to power those features.

The Cowboys' new stadium makes this one look like Texas Stadium.

Very cool video! I was wondering how the natural grass came inside the stadium. Thank you so much!
