When I beat this game I said "wow, I turned Splinter back into a man! They never could do that in the cartoon! That is amazing! Great ending." Why am I the only one?

It's because in the original comics and most of the other versions Splinter was just a rat who turn into like a half-human along with the turtles. In the cartoon that was out when they made this game, Splinter was originally a human ninja who turned into a half-rat.

I never beat this as a kid. I just recently did with emulation and save states and the ending caused me to bang my head against a wall for hours!! Total facepalm moment. "Oh. Shredder is defeated so now Splinter can demutate and we'll have a pizza!" REALLY??????

I can imagine a kid playing this game, and spending all their time trying to be this insane hard fucking game, and when they finally beat shredder, your prize for all that hard work you went to screaming and yelling at the game....is a shitty ending.....yeah, nice one Ultra Games/Konami. If i was that kid, I would of just threw the game out of my house and break it for it wasting my time lol.
This game is pretty decent though, not bad really, the music was the best :)
@Y0mAMa5957 LOL! Considering that this game was released in the late '80s when most NES games had crappy endings, I doubt that it'd drive a kid crazy. I myself had this when I was a kid (still do, packed up in the attic somewhere along with the rest of my old NES collection), but I couldn't beat it back then. And then the PC emulators like NESticle came along with their instant SAVE / LOAD features, and I was able to beat this and a bunch of other hard NES games (like the 3 Ninja Gaiden titles).
I finally am able to beat this without Game Genie. That corridor before shredder (full of guys with jetpacks and lasers) was a tough one. He's easy though.
i just find it weird is that splinter was a rat in every other tmnt related no mention of him being nothing but a rat that touched goo and could talk. at least they excelled his skills and he didnt call any of them bimmy and timmy
@wcoleman99 There was a direct to DVD movie made this year that You can either find in a local video rent store or at a Blockbuster video or Hollwood video movie that explain both cartoon series and even have both set of different Ninja Turtles each other and the two different Sherdder one being the Human Sherdder and the one from the 2003 which was the alien Sherdder. The movie is pretty good, but it still makes the 1980s turtles look lame. Check it out.

Or perhaps the closest guess is that Turtles took the ray pistol that turns them back to normal turtles again from Shredder and shot splinter with it.
Let's set the record right... The 1980's Cartoon of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles couldn't get the rights to produce a real version of the comic books of TMNT, so instead they created their own version of Teeage Mutant Ninja Turtles and made it more kid friendly. The one that came out in 2003 Cartoon is based more or less on the real Comic books with their own twist to it.. I like both series, but the 2003 version was better.

In the Comics Splinter was never a Human, but only a rat and his master was killed by the Sherdder, just like in the movies. Also the whole parallel Universe thing with how both ninja Turtles cartoon co-exsting was a pretty cool way to explain things..

I beat this on Commodore 64 and the only reason I beat it was because Commodore let you save your progress. Nintendo should have done the same. This is A LOT for one sitting
Actually, the instruction book states that the Turtles' primary objective in the game is to capture Shredder's Retromutagen Ray generator, which can turn Splinter back to a human (as seen in the cartoon episode "Shredder & Splintered"). That's why he becomes human again at the end; the Turtles use the ray on him, but the game itself forgot to tell us that there's a Retromutagen Ray.
@HackTh3Planet LOL! Yes it is. But if you use a NES emulator program on your PC (like NESticle for example), then you can beat it. Emulators allow you to save the game anywhere with the touch of a button, so you can just save before a hard area and keep reloading if you die and don't make it. Give it a try. I've beaten so many hard NES games using NESticle. Oh yeah, you will also need to search for the ROM files (which comprise of the games themselves) to run on the emulator program. Good luck!

What a terrible ending. Here's how it SHOULD have ended: When Shred is defeated, he falls to the ground motionless; cut to the four turtles sitting before Splinter, who congratulates them and tells them they are on their way to becoming true Ninjas. Mikey suggests they celebrate with pizza. The other turtles agree and all shout "Cowabunga!" Cut back to Shredder, who suddenly gets up, alive and well, and leaps away cackling. The words "To Be Continued" appear. Now THERE is a proper ending!
